Chapter 527
Before Viola could react, black-clad figures burst in, their swords dripping with blood. They had clearly killed others on their way.
Viola screamed and threw herself against the door, banging urgently. "Aurora, open the door!"
Yvonne and Julia shielded Viola, their bodies trembling. "Stay awayโฆ"
The figures swung their swords with deadly precision. A cold sensation, then blood, splattered across Yvonne and Julia's throats. They were cut down silently.
Paralyzed with fear, Viola sank to the ground, covering her ears and crying, "Help! Help!"
One figure lunged at Viola, sword raised. Barrett's powerful kick sent the assailant flying. He immediately took a defensive position beside Viola.
"Get inside and hide!" Barrett, facing imminent danger, shoved Viola toward the room.
Viola sobbed, "Aurora has locked the door!"
Barrett kicked the door with all his might, but it held firm. He fought off the attackers, shouting, "Aurora, open the door!"
Inside, Aurora stood grim-faced, gripping her trembling sword. She ignored Barrett and showed no sign of opening the door.
Quickly, Barrett was struck. He narrowly avoided further attacks, his Capital Guard training his only salvation. He might have been dead otherwise.
He tried to lure the assassins into a deserted courtyard, but they were clearly targeting Aurora. Three attacked the door; one faced Barrett.
Even against a single assassin, Barrett struggled.
Viola, terrified, nearly fainted. She scrambled into a corner and hid.
The estate guards arrived, but the Warren family couldn't afford many, and they were no match for the assassins. Within minutes, they were gravely injured.
Despite being stabbed twice, Barrett fought fiercely. A former military general, he was stubborn and resilient. Blood flowed from his wounds, but he fought on.
The attackers might not have intended to kill him; they seemed to be wounding him to drive him away. It took them more effort than expected.
The commotion reached the second branch's residential area. Gregory, a Royal Citadel civil servant, arrived with his two sons. Though their martial arts training was basic, they rushed to help.
Jonathan soon arrived with Benjamin and Bryan. They saw several blood-covered bodies on the ground. Terrified, they ran outside, shouting for help.
The household was in chaos; servants screamed and fled, seeking safety.
Hearing the screams, Rebecca and Serena realized assassins were in the estate. Fearing for their safety, Rebecca grabbed her daughter's hand. "We can't go outside! We need to hide in Grace Mansion. Carissa had its doors made of ironwood."
Ignoring her concerns about the ruby tiara, Serena and Jade helped Rebecca to Grace Mansion.
There, they found Barrett fiercely fighting, blood-soaked and injured.
The second branch family members were ineffective, wielding knives poorly and injuring themselves. They were useless.
Terrified, Rebecca scanned the room. She didn't see Aurora fighting alongside Barrett, but she saw Viola cowering.
"Where's Aurora? Find her!" Rebecca urged Jade. "Go quickly!"
Frightened, Jade fled. Serena hurried back to her own courtyard to hide, only to find the window shattered and three assassins leaping in.
Aurora, positioned near the door, swiftly opened it and charged out as the assassins entered.
The assassin fighting Barrett kicked him aside and attacked Aurora.
Aurora blocked the attack but was forced back, feeling the sword cut her waist.
Despite his earlier frustration, Barrett rushed to help the injured Aurora. They fought back-to-back.
The assassins, previously cautious with Barrett, now attacked with lethal intent.
