Chapter 563

Sebastian was lifted from his horse and carried through the air; the world spun, momentarily darkening. Regaining his bearings, he found himself standing beside Lawrence's bedside. He turned to see his rescuer, but Rafael's urgent voice interrupted. "Sebastian, look at him quickly!"

All eyes, brimming with hope and tears, turned to the renowned physician. He had arrived! Ten people knelt, their voices choked with emotion. "Please, Sebastian, save his life!"

Mira entered with a medicine kit. Sebastian assessed Lawrence's condition, immediately prioritizing stabilization. He produced a piece of thousand-year-old evergreen root and handed it to Rafael. "Crush this."

Rafael crushed the hard root, and Sebastian swiftly placed it in Lawrence's mouth. The thousand-year-old evergreen root, known for its life-sustaining properties, could only buy Lawrence time.

Mira passed the needle pouch. Sebastian removed Lawrence's clothing and located several vital pressure points. The military physician interjected, "Sebastian, he's extremely weak. Are you sure he can handle acupuncture? Isn't it dangerous?"

"It is dangerous," Sebastian replied without looking up, "but without this risk, we have no chance."

After applying the needles and adjusting them gently, he explained, "His body heat is excessive, and he's very weak. Cooling and expelling the heat is crucial. The evergreen root will stabilize himโ€ฆ"

Before finishing, he extended a hand to Mira. "Snowdrop Pill, for heart protection."

Mira handed him the pill. He frowned at Rafael. "Crush it! Quickly!"

Rafael immediately crushed the pill. Mira administered the powder with a small spoon.

Vanda, Julian, and Travis, having finished tying the horses, rushed in. Julian tried to push through, but Sebastian stopped him.

"Just call to him. Let him know you're here, then wait outside."

Julian's heart ached, seeing his brother's condition. He cried, "Lawrence, it's me, your eldest brother! I'm here!"

Julian's anguished cries had a slightly encouraging effect. Lawrence opened his eyes, a glimmer of light appearing. However, he was too exhausted, his willpower depleted after such a prolonged ordeal. His only hope lay in Sebastian's exceptional skills and the medicines he'd prepared.

Sebastian, known for his short temper, especially in critical situations, ordered everyone except Mira and Vanda to step back and avoid interfering. The fourโ€”Sebastian, his two apprentices, and the military physicianโ€”worked together to clean Lawrence's wounds, scraping away pus, cleaning the area, and applying medicine.

Lawrence's fingers were alarmingly swollen. Each squeeze released pus and blood, causing excruciating pain. He trembled with each touch, tears streaming uncontrollably down his face.

The onlookers, unable to bear the sight, turned away. The pain was too intense to watch. Julian rested his elbows on the door, burying his face and weeping silently, unable to bear the sight. Each of Lawrence's pains felt like a stab to his own heart. He reflected that it was fortunate his sister-in-law wasn't present; such a scene would likely have caused her to faint.

Hearing Julian's sobs, Sebastian barked, "If you need to cry, go outside and do it! He's using every ounce of his strength! What right do you have to be weak here?"

Silence fell as everyone choked back sobs. Only Rafael understood that Sebastian's anger reflected the gravity of the situation.

Cleaning and treating the wounds took three hours. After washing, they rinsed again with medicinal liquid and applied a white powder. Sebastian prescribed two remediesโ€”one for further wound cleaning, the other a medicinal drink. Mira and Vanda, having received prior instructions, brought the necessary herbs. The post office staff immediately began preparing the remedies.

Mira and Vanda attentively watched by the fire. The wound-cleaning solution was placed in a side room to cool naturally, while the medicinal drink was carefully administered spoonful by spoonful.
