Chapter 594

The Quinton family residence buzzed with excitement at the wedding banquet. To uphold the third branch's reputation, Malcolm Quinton—head of the family, Civil Minister, and the queen's father—invited all the capital's influential officials and nobles. This included the Warren family; despite their current decline, their ancestral legacy (a great general) secured them Valor Estate. As a key official and the king's father-in-law, Malcolm ensured fair treatment for all. The Farrell family was also present.

Three days after the Septimus Tetra reconnaissance team's return, a royal edict promoted Thomas to third-rank major general and Felix to fourth-rank general. Lawrence received the title of Earl of Dunewind, and his wife, Kayla, became a third-rank countess. This special promotion recognized Lawrence's role as chief strategist. His unwavering loyalty during brutal torture, without betraying any comrades, bolstered troop morale—a vital need for Salvador. Given Lawrence's leg injury, the earldom ensured his comfortable retirement.

Salvador would continue to rely on the Septimus Tetra team, especially Thomas, Felix, Homer, and the Cooper brothers. Even the ordinary soldiers received promotions and awaited royal orders.

This was Thomas's first banquet since returning to the capital, and his first time in such a large gathering. The Farrells had planned a celebratory banquet, but Thomas was too exhausted for socializing. Alice, concerned about his dazed state, canceled it. Thomas remained despondent, plagued by nightly nightmares of the team's peril, making sleep difficult. He subconsciously avoided news of Viola. He hadn't intended to attend the banquet; Felix had insisted. Felix's strong bond with Logan, despite lacking blood ties, motivated him.

Amidst the festivities, Felix and Thomas felt out of place, often lost in thought. The Septimus Tetra team members gravitated together for comfort. Lawrence was absent, but Kayla attended with members of the Marquis of Elderglen's family.

Chapter 593

"Run, Carmen," Melanie urged, "as far as possible."

Carmen, heartbroken, replied firmly, "Don't worry, Mom. I'll complete the Grand Princess's task and get you out of here."

Melanie clutched her daughter's clothing. "Just run!"

"Trust me," Carmen nodded vigorously, her eyes resolute. Leaning closer, she whispered, "If Dad visits, persuade him to cooperate. We have no other choice."

Melanie released her grip, her tear-filled eyes confused.

"Trust me, Mom. I'll save you," Carmen breathed, silently adding, "and the other concubines." Then, louder, "Don't worry. I'll follow the Grand Princess's instructions. If I succeed, we'll be reunited."

Melanie's gaunt face reflected fresh terror.

Carmen nodded confidently. "Mom, remember what I said. I can do this."

Their eyes met; Melanie saw a determination she'd never witnessed.

Fear gripped Melanie. She reached out, wanting to dissuade Carmen from the potentially destructive, incomprehensible task. But seeing her daughter's resolve, she withdrew her hand. She wouldn't hinder Carmen's efforts. Melanie, Carmen, Celeste, and the Lester family were bound together. Melanie couldn't afford to die; her daughters and the family would suffer. She couldn't have a good life, but she could fight back. They'd been pushed to the brink.

Kayla, rarely attending social events, attended at her husband's urging. He lamented his inability to attend Felix's brother's wedding, asking her to represent him.

Her new title and the royal edict ensured an enthusiastic reception. Everyone inquired about Lawrence's health; Eleanor offered congratulations.

Viola felt scrutinized, though no one directly addressed her. The constant praise for Kayla fueled her embarrassment and anger. She regretted attending, yielding to her mother-in-law's insistence. The praise became overwhelming, leading her to take a stroll in the garden.

Zoey, noticing Viola's distress, discreetly sent a maid to follow her, fearing trouble.

Viola wandered alone, the laughter of passing guests heightening her irritation. She passed an archway and heard a man's voice.

In the courtyard, several men stood beneath the trees. One looked up, their eyes met, and Viola froze.

He was darker, but still handsome and confident. Thomas met Viola's gaze, then quickly looked away and departed.
