It was Rafael's day off, but Yuvan had ruined half of it, in Rafael's opinion. Helen shared his frustration, expressing her disdain for Yuvan's family and their expectation that she play hostess.
โI canโt stand a heartless man like him,โ she fumed. โThough he and the late king were brothers, heโs not an ounce like him. He tortured his legitimate wife to deathโhe truly is a despicable man!โ
Gillian interjected gently, โThey came all this way, and youโre the only one with enough seniority to handle them properly. We canโt have Prince Rafael or Lady Carissa dealing with them. After all, theyโre younger than Prince Yuvan. It wouldnโt be appropriate for an elder to visit the younger generation. Isnโt it more fitting for you to step in? By doing so, youโll help Prince Rafael and Lady Carissa.โ
โI know, but Iโm just so angry. I want to slap Yuvan twice,โ Helen said, her expression darkening. โThere are plenty of heartless men out there, but Iโve rarely encountered one who is both cruel and callous.โ
Gillian blinked. Helen hadn't met many men, to be fair.
Meanwhile, Rafael returned to Orchid Hall with Carissa. โLetโs change clothes and go out for a bit. Weโll have dinner outside tonight.โ
โWhere to?โ Carissa asked.
โI originally planned to take you out today, but they wasted half the day,โ Rafael replied. โNow weโre left with only a few hours, and we canโt go too far. Letโs head to Richspire Peak to see the maple leaves. Iโve heard this yearโs are particularly vibrant.โ
Given their busy schedules, they rarely had time for their relationship. Today offered a rare opportunity to enjoy each other's company without obligations.
Thomas had recommended a wonderful, serene, and cool spot away from the crowds. A half-day excursion to see the autumn leaves would be far better than staying at the estate.
Carissa tilted her head. โBut Viviโs busy talking to Carmen and practicing her swordplay. Should we wait for her?โ
โWait for her? Why?โ Rafael shook his head. โItโll just be the two of us. Weโre not taking any maids or guards, not even Lulu.โ
โOh, I see. Then, when will we be back?โ Carissa asked, her brow furrowing slightly. โI was hoping we could pick Ryan up together since heโs going to be staying at the academy next month. Plus, Vivi might be upset if we went out without her.โ
Lulu and Pearl followed, preparing their outfits. Initially excited to overhear their conversationโit was rare for Rafael to take time off for an outing with Carissaโtheir spirits dampened as it became clear he intended to be alone with her to strengthen their relationship and create lasting memories. Their mistress truly lacked a sense of romance.
Rafael said, โEverythingโs arranged. Next weekend, Iโll pick up Ryan with you. As for Violet and Carmen practicing swordplay, letโs not disturb them. Come on, letโs change into riding clothes. We need to leave quickly to return in time for the sunset.โ
Thomas had mentioned that watching the sunset from Richspire Peak's halfway point was breathtaking. The summit glowed with a golden light, inspiring a sense of peaceful tranquility.
โAlright,โ Carissa conceded, feeling a twinge of guilt. She usually went everywhere with Violet, and leaving her to deal with Carmen felt unfair. She hoped Violet wouldn't be too upset.
Just as they stepped out, still adjusting their clothes, Luke entered with news. โYour Highness, Your Grace, Mr. Young and his wife have arrived.โ
โWhat? Mr. Young?โ Rafael paused, surprised. โDid they say what it was about?โ
Luke shook his head. โThey didnโt mention anything, but they seemed troubled. Iโm not sure if theyโre dealing with a problem.โ
Rafael frowned. โA problem? With their family? Why would they have trouble solving it?โ
Trevor was the Royal Tutor, with connections surpassing even Rafael's as the Hell Monarch.
Regardless, with distinguished guests arriving, their plans for the dayโRichspire Peak or otherwiseโwere cancelled.
Rafael had been looking forward to taking Carissa to Richspire Peak since hearing about it from Thomas. After days of planning, it was disappointing to have to entertain Yuvan and now Trevor. All his planning had been for nothing.
Seeing his disappointment, Carissa finally understoodโa little lateโthat he'd hoped for a romantic outing. She took his hand reassuringly.
โLetโs go see whatโs going on. If itโs not serious, we might still make it to Richspire Peak,โ she suggested.
