Chapter 620 (+25 Bonus)

Rosalind threw herself into her grandmother's embrace, resting there before lifting her head. Her eyes were red, but sparkled brightly, as if her words came straight from her heart. Carissa and Violet exchanged glances, sensing something strange. They were there to encourage Rosalind to let go of Thomas, so they remained silent.

After leaving Trevor's residence, they returned home and sent someone to inform Thomas of the outcome. Carissa initially intended only to relay the news, but changed her mind. She asked Violet to see Thomas in person and share everything Rosalind had said. Although slow in matters of the heart, Carissa recognized Rosalind's discomfort after her decision. Her feelings for Thomas didn't seem fleeting; they suggested a past connection.

Yet, that seemed improbable. Nearly a decade separated them in age. Thomas had joined the military young—perhaps fifteen—serving under General Xavier outside the capital. While he returned home occasionally, interaction with Rosalind seemed unlikely.

After hearing Violet's words, Thomas simply nodded. "Thank you, Your Grace. I also appreciate Mr. York's reasonable excuse."

Violet paused. "Thomas, Rosalind is a good girl. She wishes you peace and happiness."

Thomas knew Violet's judgment was sound, and her endorsement spoke volumes. However, he believed someone as admirable as Rosalind deserved a more refined suitor.

Smiling, Thomas replied, "I wish her peace and happiness as well, and hope she finds her ideal match."

Meanwhile, Zoey returned home with Viola and revealed everything.

"You needn't doubt everyone. Thomas discovered Silas's emerald pendant near your bed. I told him the rest."

Viola stared in disbelief. "He found it, and you didn't cover for me? You're my sister-in-law! You exaggerated and told him everything? What have I done?"

"Cover for you? What grudge do I have against Thomas?" Zoey replied coldly.

Viola felt icy. Betrayed by her sister-in-law, she cried, "But you're not close to him! We're family! You'd harm family? Don't you fear retribution?"

She grabbed Zoey's arm. "Come with me to Mother! Is this how you treat your sister-in-law? I've done nothing to you! You've always had your way, and everyone listens to you, including me. Isn't that enough? What more do you want?"

Zoey shook her off, slapping Viola. "This slap is from me, on behalf of Lady Carissa."

Another slap landed on Viola's other cheek. "This slap is from Thomas."

"How dare you hit me?!" Viola screamed.

Ignoring her, Zoey slapped herself. "This slap is for me—for letting you get away with everything, for prioritizing family over right and wrong. You were the one involved with someone else, but I helped you terminate your pregnancy, found care for you, and escorted you back to the Farrells."

Tears streamed down Zoey's face as she slapped herself again, leaving red marks.

"Madam Zoey!" Jane cried, rushing to her. "Why hurt yourself? If you're angry, take it out on me!"

Zoey shook her off and struck herself again, crying. "This slap is for my foolishness. When Thomas's death was reported, you wanted his pension. I was too scared to tell you to return it, fearing it would shame our family. I'm done with the pretenses. Go ahead and cause a scene before Mother. Let everyone know."
