Chapter 622 (+25 Bonus)
Amelia went to Hell Monarch Estate. Hearing that Viola had returned to Silverstone Estate, she immediately went there. Barrett was on duty and unaware of the situation. With everything in disarray, Amelia felt compelled to intervene. Dragging her "sickly" body into Silverstone Estate, she sighed heavily. She didn't know the full story but suspected the commotion at Hell Monarch Estate, involving Carissa, was somehow connected to Barrett.
Evelyn briefly informed Amelia that Viola was pregnant and needed care. Amelia, hesitant to ask questions, was nonetheless puzzled. Pregnancy was positive news; why then had Viola caused a disturbance at Hell Monarch Estate?
Viola's pregnancy thrilled Rebecca and Barrett. That evening, Barrett cared for her. As Viola lay in his arms, silent tears streamed down her face. She was upset, but hoped their relationship could improve if he treated her well.
News of her visit to the Farrell family's residence quickly spread throughout the city. Rebecca, valuing her reputation, sternly questioned Viola: "You visited the Farrells while pregnant with my son's child—what were you thinking? Whose child is it? Did you rekindle your relationship with Thomas? Did you conceive secretly with him?"
Viola, feeling no respect for her mother-in-law, replied coldly: "The child's paternity will be clear at birth. As for rekindling a relationship or a secret conception, you should worry about my husband's reputation. If those words got out, he would be the laughingstock." Viola then left.
Frustration overwhelmed her. Despite her fall from grace, she wouldn't be trampled on. The Warren family, responsible for her maids' deaths, had no right to judge her. The instigator, Aurora, lived comfortably in Blessed Haven, while Viola suffered. Rebecca, supposedly formidable, hadn't reprimanded Aurora. Aurora's ruthlessness ensured no one dared provoke her; instead, she was treated like royalty.
Barrett overheard colleagues whispering about Viola's visit to the Farrells. Humiliated, he stormed home, heading straight for Grace Mansion.
Viola had prepared her defense. Facing Barrett wouldn't be difficult. "I went to the Farrells to retrieve the pension and money my sister-in-law used to repay the death benefits. She's helped me greatly, and I didn't want her to bear that expense. I thought it best to request the money's return directly. After all, I'm carrying your child. For the child's future, I needed to clarify everything."
She gently caressed her barely noticeable belly, a glow of motherhood illuminating her features.
However, Barrett didn't believe her. He knew Viola's character. The money came from her family; she was glad not to pay. Why would she retrieve it for her sister-in-law? He believed she had sought Thomas.
Suppressing his anger, Barrett watched her tenderly stroke her stomach. It didn't matter. Their feelings hadn't run deep. Unlike his mother, he wouldn't doubt the child's paternity. He didn't trust Viola, but he trusted Thomas, who wasn't that kind of man.
"Honey!" Viola said, wrapping her arms around him. "This is our first child, and I'm looking forward to his arrival. I promise to take good care of myself, and we'll protect him together, okay?"
Barrett embraced her and nodded, "Okay."
He stifled a sigh, wanting to ask about Hell Monarch Estate but decided against it. Further trouble was best avoided; the damage was done. Preserving the Warren family's honor was paramount.
