Chapter 673
Despite the remoteness of the location, the area was remarkably clean. A swing set stood on a small platform, large enough for two or three people. However, the platform lacked any guardrails or barriers. A swing could easily send someone flying off if they lost their grip.
Violet invited Jaina onto the swing, gently rocking it while facing the river. Jaina felt a surge of fear. Her martial arts skills were weak, and her Lightfoot Skill was mediocre at best. She gripped the ropes tightly.
"When we met at Grovehill Estate, you didn't know my identity. How could you be so sure afterward?" Jaina was puzzled. The coincidences seemed too carefully orchestrated.
Violet replied, "That day, your lip mole reminded me of the Hell Monarch's princess consort's mother. You also resemble the Hell Monarch's wife, and your mannerisms were familiar. I couldn't place it, but now I realizeโit was Jacob."
"Jacob?" Jaina repeated, feeling unfamiliar with the name. She vaguely recalled a boy bringing her pound cake under an apple tree, his smile bright in the sunlight. Yet, she couldn't recall his appearance. Now, that boy was the head archivist at Hell Monarch Estate.
"You still haven't told me how you knew I was Jaina," Jaina pressed.
Violet continued, "We knew Eleanor intended to betroth someone to Thomas, my godbrother. They aimed to place their people within the military. She likely didn't hide this from you. If she wanted you to perform a task, she'd have told you."
Jaina nodded. "You're right."
"From the moment I saw you, something felt wrong. You've lived in Harmony Palace; have you seen any women who resemble you among Henry's concubines?"
Jaina frowned and shook her head. "Never."
"When Eleanor was younger, she was infatuated with the Duke of NorthwatchโHector Sinclair, the general who died in battle. He was a marquis then. The Duke married Melanie Sullivan. This made Eleanor hate anyone resembling Melanie. She gathered women who looked like her, made them Henry's concubines, and mistreated them. You also bear a resemblance, especially with that beauty mark."
"When we learned she'd rescued you in Stonebridge County, we suspected more. I considered having Kyle paint your portrait and send someone to investigate. But thenโฆ"
Violet paused, and Jaina's anxiety grew. "But then what?" she urged.
Chapter 673 (continued)
"I saw many portraits in Kyle's study. Jacob, in his search for you, had Kyle infer your current appearance based on childhood photos and your parents' features. A painting looked exactly like you. That's why I asked to meet you. We weren't entirely sure you were Jacob's sister, so I used the rabbit figurine. Everything I mentioned actually happened to you and Jacob. You are Jaina York."
Jaina fell silent. She didn't understand how someone could predict her current appearance. However, memories, though blurry, surfaced. Pain and bitterness, mingled with warmth, filled her heart.
She'd believed her parents abandoned her because of illness, fostering resentment. She repaid kindness with vengeance. Eleanor had saved her; her gratitude was akin to being reborn. When Eleanor offered to take her to the capital, Jaina didn't object, expecting to repay her as a servant.
However, Eleanor treated her exceptionally well, pampering her and arranging for tutors, promising a good marriage.
