Chapter 763

Upon hearing the news, Evelyn was furious; she nearly suffered a heart attack. Pointing an accusing finger at Viola, she scolded, "This is utterly ridiculous! How is Barrett's promotion not a good thing? Why are you saying such depressing things and constantly mentioning Lady Carissa? Does she even appreciate your mentioning her?

"Since when did I teach you to slap your husband? And how dare you return to your mother's house crying! I thought you were having a small spat, but you're the one causing trouble! He's seriously injured, and instead of caring for him, you slapped him over a few harsh words. You never learn! You'll give me a heart attack!"

Viola lowered her head, feeling wronged but too afraid to argue. She choked out, "Mom, Zoey, I don't want to fight with him. I've endured so much carrying his child, yet he still thinks of Ca—his former wife. Who could tolerate that?"

Zoey remained silent, unwilling to engage. Her mother-in-law was reasonable; Viola's problems would be handled by Evelyn. Zoey was merely a listener.

Evelyn was infuriated. "Tell me, does he constantly bring her up?"

Viola's eyes widened. "He wouldn't dare!"

"Does he mention her to his family? Outsiders?"

Viola replied, "No one at Valor Estate mentions her except Aurora. As for outsiders, would he dare? But even if he doesn't say it, he must be thinking about her."

Evelyn was losing patience. "If he doesn't bring her up, why do you keep mentioning it? Don't you want a good life? Think of yourself and the baby! You're not a child! This isn't your first marriage. Why do you seem so foolish? Do you think he's always thinking of her? How do you know what's in his heart?!"

Evelyn's furious words caused Zoey and Luna to exchange glances, stifling laughter behind handkerchiefs as smiles crept onto their faces.

Viola sobbed, "Aurora said so, and he didn't deny it."

Evelyn frowned. "You believe her so readily? You trust the wrong things and dismiss what you should believe! You lack common sense! Do you think Lady Carissa is someone your husband can covet now? Barrett is practical and genuinely wants to be with you. Stop this nonsense and go back."

Viola protested, "Returning now would be humiliating! I'll stay a few more days."

"Absolutely not!" Evelyn glared. "Return now!"

"Mom!"

Viola stood and stamped her foot, but Evelyn stopped her.

Chapter 763 (continued)

"Enough! What's with your attitude? How old are you to be throwing a tantrum? Your husband is injured and bedridden. You slapped him and ran home. You're wrong! If this gets out, people will say we raised you poorly."

Viola cradled her abdomen, tears streaming down her face. "I'm so upset my stomach hurts. I fear the stress has affected the pregnancy; I can't ride in a carriage. If you don't believe me, call a physician."

Her words held truth—her pregnancy was unstable. After the argument, her lower abdomen throbbed.

Evelyn, skeptical, summoned a physician. When the physician confirmed the unstable pregnancy, Evelyn relented, allowing Viola to stay but sending someone to Valor Estate to explain the situation honestly, stating Viola's impulsiveness caused the problem. Evelyn also sent tonics to Barrett, apologizing and promising to discipline Viola.

Rebecca, displeased with her daughter-in-law, remained polite, considering the Earl of Silverstone's family and Viola's pregnancy.

Thus, the situation resolved. The Earl of Silverstone's family cared for Viola; she would return to Valor Estate once better.

However, Carissa arrived at Silverstone Estate two days later. Zoey, aware of the Edgeview Estate incident, feared Carissa had come with the Capital Guard. But upon reaching the main hall, Zoey found Carissa accompanied only by Violet.
