Chapter 772
After Carissa left, Leopold remained dazed for a long while before slowly regaining his senses. His bloodshot eyes fell on Jessica. He seized her by the collar, and slapped her sharply across the face.
โHow dare you hit me? You coward!โ she screamed hysterically.
โThatโs not all Iโm going to do! Iโm divorcing you!โ Leopold roared, his rage boiling over.
โWhat?โ Jessica froze, her face darkening ominously. โSay that again!โ
โYouโre a vicious woman! Why wouldnโt I divorce you? Am I supposed to keep you around to harm my family and our people?!โ
Suddenly, a ceramic pot crashed down on Leopoldโs head, shattering with a resounding crack. The impact sent him staggering backward. Disbelief washed over his face as he stared at the frenzied Jessica. Dizziness overcame him, and he collapsed to the ground, blood gushing from his head.
โLord Leopold!โ
Servants rushed in, supporting him as one shouted, โFetch the physician!โ
โDivorce me? You want to divorce me? Then Iโll make sure we both go down together!โ Jessica glared coldly at the fallen man, devoid of sympathy.
As Carissa stepped outside the gate, she heard yelling and screaming from within. She instructed Michael to investigate while she returned to the Supreme Court to organize the testimonies.
Ironridge Estate was thrown into chaos. Fortunately, due to Margaretโs poor health, a physician was already employed, allowing Leopold to receive timely medical attention. While not fatal, his injuries were grave.
After assessing the situation, Michael returned to the Supreme Court.
โAre his injuries serious?โ Carissa asked, concern etched on her face.
โThe physician said Lord Leopold was saved in time, so his life isnโt in danger. However, further complications are possible until he wakes up. When I left, he was still unconscious,โ Michael said, recalling the shocking sight of blood pooling on Leopoldโs head.
โThatโs truly ruthless,โ Matthew remarked, shaking his head. He had just finished questioning Eleanor and added wryly, โThe mother and daughter are quite similar. During my interrogation, Eleanor initially said nothing. Then she erupted into a fit of curses, her voice growing hoarse from screaming before finally stopping. Now, itโs Peterโs turn.โ
Rafael chuckled, acknowledging Matthewโs hard work. โLetโs organize the testimonies. I have to report to His Majesty at the palace; we need to update him on the preliminary investigation.โ
โShould we report everything she raved about as well?โ Matthew asked.
โOf course. We must report exactly what she said, no matter how ridiculous.โ
Chapter 772
Noticing Matthewโs troubled expression, Carissa asked, โWhat did she say?โ
Matthew handed her Eleanorโs statement. โPlease take a look.โ
As Carissa quickly skimmed the report, her expression shifted to exasperation. She looked at Rafael and asked, โYouโฆ want to submit this to the king like that?โ
โYes. Exactly like that,โ Rafael replied decisively.
Carissa wasnโt concerned that Salvador would believe Eleanorโs words. Anyone with common sense would see through such nonsense. Salvador knew Rafael and his team had uncovered the rebellion. If Rafael were the mastermind, wouldnโt that be self-sabotage? It didn't make sense. But wouldn't submitting such an unreasonable confession make the king suspect a clumsy cover-up?
Rafael understood Carissaโs concerns. โItโs fine. Since she said it, we canโt ignore it. His Majesty is eager to see her initial statement. He wants to sift through it for clues to validate his suspicions.โ
Carissa realized this testimony wouldnโt yield verifiable truths.
โIโll accompany you to the palace. We need the king to decide on Jessicaโs situation,โ she stated firmly.
