Chapter 796
Malcolm shifted uncomfortably, as if sitting on pins and needles, but managed to ask, โYour Highness, what will His Majesty do with these women?โ
Rafael replied, โYou should ask Commander Sinclair. Sheโs in charge of this matter.โ
Malcolm awkwardly turned to Carissa, his gaze evasive. โIf I may ask, Commander Sinclairโฆโ
Carissa cut him off. โLord Lionel has already spoken to me. Iโve informed him that the families can either keep the women or send them to the Capital Guard for centralized supervision. Itโs up to you, Lord Malcolm. If you choose to keep them, they cannot leave the capital or contact anyone else, as the mastermind behind the treason case hasnโt been identified.โ
Malcolm sighed in relief. โIf we hand them over to the Capital Guard, where will they be taken?โ
โWeโre contacting various convents in the capital to find one large enough to accommodate them. The funds seized from the Marquis of Grovehillโs family and Eleanor will cover the expenses.โ
โA convent?โ Malcolm rubbed his knees, a thoughtful expression on his face. โThat means the conditions wonโt be very good.โ
โBasic needs will be met, but donโt expect luxury,โ Carissa stated. โThis is temporary. Once the treason case is resolved, they will be free to leave.โ
โSo, theyโll stay in the convent until the case is resolved?โ
โExactly. However, if youโre reluctant to part with her, you could keep her, but any issues will be your responsibility.โ
Malcolm shook his head. โI wonโt keep her.โ
โThen we will take her. You have a daughter with Casey. Will she come home, or follow Casey to the convent?โ
With determination, Malcolm replied, โNeither. I will make separate arrangements for her.โ
Carissa said, โActually, if Casey takes the child to the convent, life wonโt be too harsh. A child might mean extra care. At that age, being away from both parents isnโt ideal.โ
Malcolm disagreed firmly. โThatโs not your concern, Commander Sinclair. She canโt take the child to the convent. There can be no children around her.โ
Carissa nodded. โAlright. His Majesty has classified the women as victims. If their families donโt arrange for them, we will. As for the child, she is your responsibility.โ
โMy responsibility alone. You neednโt concern yourself.โ Malcolm clearly disliked Carissaโs continued mention of the child. โIs there anything else? These matters must be reported to His Majesty, right?โ
Carissa replied, โYes, they must be reported. His Majesty is closely monitoring this case and already has a list of the women. We must account for everyoneโs whereabouts.โ
โYour Highness!โ Malcolm looked at Rafael earnestly. โI ask a favor. Please handle this discreetly. It shouldnโt be common knowledge.โ
Noting Malcolmโs irritation, Rafael responded bluntly, โCommander Sinclair is in charge. Youโre asking the wrong person.โ
Malcolm sighed deeply. โIs discreet handling possible, Commander Sinclair?โ
โThis is the most discreet handling possible. Had I not kept it low-key, I would have given the case to the Supreme Court. This shouldnโt have been known by anyone in the Quinton family. It was your oversight. The Supreme Court has many cases and canโt wait for your family. We contacted the Quinton family last, giving you time to prepare. Strangely, you didnโt.โ
โI wasnโt aware who she was,โ Malcolm said wearily. โMy household has an explanation. We just need to prevent this from spreading.โ
Carissa replied calmly, โTo protect these women, we wonโt spread information. You should focus on your household, Lord Malcolm.โ
Malcolmโs demeanor was tense. Carissa didnโt care for his feelings; his unwillingness to cooperate showed his arrogance. Since heโd chosen a mistress and fleeting pleasures, he had to face the consequences alone.
