Chapter 927
After her bath, Carissa dismissed everyone and draped herself over Rafaelโs shoulder like a lazy cat.
โI heard you went to the Ministry of Justice today.โ
โYes. They were interrogating Aurora. I reviewed the testimony; itโs the same old story. Theyโll continue questioning her tonight.โ
โHas she confessed to everything?โ
โFrom what we know, yes. But her confession implicates Grandfather. She insists his orders led to the village massacre.โ
Carissaโs eyes went cold. โSo, now itโs about changing her statement, not getting a confession.โ
Rafael nodded. โThatโs what I requested, and the Ministry of Justice is cooperating.โ
โSheโs blaming my grandfather, claiming she was following orders and wasnโt the mastermind,โ Carissa hissed.
Rafaelโs expression hardened. โShe thinks she can escape death by claiming she wasnโt the mastermind. But donโt worry, I wonโt let her get away with it. Her testimony alone isnโt enough. Grandfather was shot twice with arrows at Victory Passโonce during the first battle, and again while heading to Fawnrun City. He was unconscious both times. How could he have given her orders?โ
โSheโs cornered and desperate, but weโll overturn her testimony. Will her cousin, Zeke, be brought in tomorrow?โ Carissa asked.
โEverythingโs been handled. Theyโll question him tonight, but I returned early. The Ministry of Justice is still interrogating. Donโt worry; Iโll go back personally tomorrow.โ
โAlright.โ
Carissa felt Zeke, who was with Aurora during the Fawnrun City incident, might be their key. Whether she acted under orders or independently, he could testify to that.
The next day, Rafael went to the Supreme Court and then to the Ministry of Justice. Meanwhile, Carissa went to the palace to seek Victoriaโs special approval for Ryan to meet with Dominic. Technically, she could request this from Salvador. However, asking him would involve too much politics and wouldnโt be appropriate.
Seeking Victoriaโs special approval was different. Because of her long-standing connection with the Sullivan family, Victoria readily agreed to allow Ryan to meet his great-grandfather. Since Dominic was residing at the Sullivan Estate, not the Ministry of Justice, Victoria deemed it a family matter. Thus, no one dared interfere by calling it a political issue.
Victoria was kind, offering comfort and taking Carissaโs hand. She assured her that Salvador would likely show leniency, given Dominicโs long years of service to the country.
โDonโt worry too much,โ Victoria said.
Victoria not only granted permission but also sent supplements with her trusted chamberlain, Keith, instructing him to assist.
Carissa was deeply moved. This was something she couldnโt have arranged herself. While the people who attended to Dominic were assigned by Derek, the Griffinblade Unit was still stationed at the estate. Their presence meant palace servants wouldnโt defy them, and their comings and goings were strictly monitored.
However, Keith was different. As Victoriaโs head chamberlain, even the Griffinblade Unit respected him. No one would dare stop him from entering the Sullivan Estate.
With the matter settled, Carissa returned to Capital Guard headquarters. After checking the duty roster, she summoned Michael and others to ensure nothing urgent required her attention.
When she was certain there were no pressing matters, she instructed, โIf anything important comes up in the next few days, find me at Hell Monarch Estate. If itโs not urgent, handle it yourselves.โ
Michael nodded. โDonโt worry, Commander Sinclair. Preparations for the Westhaven envoyโs arrival are nearly complete. There shouldnโt be any major issues. Please attend to your other matters.โ
Carissa turned to Max. โKeep your men in check. During the Westhaven envoyโs visit, ensure they donโt cause trouble.โ
โUnderstood,โ Max replied. โThe Garrison Unit is undergoing evaluations per your instructions. Anyone failing will be dismissed. Many arenโt part of the Mystic Army, so their removal doesnโt matter.โ
โGood,โ Carissa said, rising. โThatโs all. Youโre dismissed.โ
