Chapter 987
The group followed Patrick inside, Carissa holding Lulu's hand. Two Westhaven spies were brought in, their clothes torn and bloodstained, their faces so swollen as to be unrecognizable—apparently, they had been slapped repeatedly. Forced to kneel, they struggled to remain upright.
Lulu's eyes, red with rage, mirrored Carissa's. Neither had forgotten the Northwatch Estate massacre. Now, with the larger conflict resolved, revenge for her family and Melanie was within reach. Pain and fury surged within her. She wanted to beat them senseless, but she restrained herself, mindful of Patrick, Rafael, and Carissa.
"When brought to the Ministry of Justice, they remained defiant," Patrick explained. "I didn't order torture, but some, driven by emotion, slapped them. Their other injuries were present on arrival."
Rafael, having heard from Winona that the men were beaten before being returned, acknowledged Patrick's words and instructed Travis to take them to the Sinclair family cemetery.
The lanterns dimly lit the road as Travis tied the spies to the carriage. The memory of the Sinclair massacre fueled his rage, and he lashed out with the whip. At the cemetery, he untied and kicked them to the ground.
Lulu unleashed a flurry of punches and kicks, her fury unrestrained. No one intervened; they let her vent, though pained by her transformation. The spies were beaten to the ground, blood pouring from their mouths and swollen faces.
One spy, pushing himself up, roared, "You think only your people's lives matter? What about Westhaven? Why slaughter our citizens?"
The other, coughing up blood, gasped, "Any true Westhaven man will stand against you Starhaven beasts!"
Travis kicked him. "Then avenge yourselves on Aurora, the one who slaughtered your people! Is slaughtering the weak and elderly your idea of bravery?"
Violet snapped, "It wasn't even General Sullivan's order! You didn't check your facts before killing innocents. You're the ruthless beasts."
The injured man lifted his head. "Even if a mistake, you're still guilty! Killing is one thing, but humiliating His Highness—stripping him of his dignity and castrating him—was unforgivable! We had to avenge him!"
Travis cracked his whip. "Grand Princess Lisandra truly avenged your prince! She took Aurora to Westhaven for a ritual at his grave. What have you done but slaughter the weak? You call yourselves men of blood and honor? Ptui!"
The spy persisted: "They're all guilty—all of you Starhaven criminals…"
Carissa's eyes hardened. She swiftly stabbed each spy, Travis quickly shielding her from the blood splatter. She had no interest in their arguments or letting their words disturb the peace of her family's spirits.
She offered the knife to Lulu. "Do you want to kill them?"
Lulu, tears streaming down her face, shook her head. Hatred burned in her eyes. "No. I want to watch their blood drain slowly."
