Chapter 992

Trevor and Jeremiah joined Dominic at Hell Monarch Estate for dinner. The meal was lavish, accompanied by fine wine. Dominic was in high spirits and drank freely. The three men chatted and laughed, reminiscing about the past, even mentioning the late Matthias Warren.

Jeremiah sighed deeply. โ€œBack then, I used my connections to arrange Barrett and Violaโ€™s marriage out of respect for Matthias. I wanted to ensure their familyโ€™s continued prosperity. Who would have thought theyโ€™d be so mismatched? As a matchmaker, Iโ€™ve clearly failed, and I regret it.โ€

Trevor remarked, โ€œEveryone has their own fate. At our age, we shouldnโ€™t worry too much about the younger generation. Letโ€™s focus on ourselves and enjoying time with our grandchildren.โ€

Trevorโ€™s words held deeper meaning. With Salvador still young and consolidating his power, it was natural for him to strategically elevate new ministers while quietly sidelining older onesโ€”every king needs to build his own court. Dominicโ€™s retirement from his position at Victory Pass seemed less daunting now.

Dominic smiled. โ€œYouโ€™re right, Trevor.โ€

It was the only sensible choice; he was growing old and could no longer effectively support Victory Pass. Fortunately, Wyatt was now in charge, making a change in leadership unlikely for the time being. The Sullivan familyโ€™s army would continue to protect Victory Pass.

They enjoyed their evening. As night fell, Jeremiah pulled Dominic aside, sighing heavily. โ€œThis may be our last meeting, old friend. Take care.โ€

โ€œYou as well,โ€ Dominic replied with a respectful nod. Despite having drunk considerably, he remained steady.

Rafael saw the guests off, thanking them. He then noticed Cindy holding Leonaโ€™s hand tightly. Leona also bid farewell to her grandfather and aunt before leaving with Alana.

After more drinks, Cindy became overwhelmed with emotion, a wave of sorrow and longing washing over her. Carissa gently supported her aunt, helping her back to the courtyard.

โ€œI know you havenโ€™t looked at the gifts yet, Cindy. If you donโ€™t want to, donโ€™t. Just leave them aside. Look at them when you feel like it. Your happiness is what matters most.โ€

โ€œI understand,โ€ Carissa replied, her voice heavy with sadness.

The lantern light revealed the graying hair at Cindyโ€™s temples. The once lively, resolute woman seemed suddenly aged.

The next morning, Rafael and Carissa saw them off at the city gates. Cindy had arrived with several cartloads of gifts; she departed with the same. Carissa, having carefully prepared everything in advance, held back tears, maintaining a smile until they were out of sight. Then, rushing to the city tower, she breathed a sigh of relief when the convoy came into view. But soon, even that faded, and the dust settled. Hot tears streamed down her face.

Rafael gently wiped them away. โ€œDonโ€™t be sad. We can take Ryan to visit them.โ€

Carissa knew visits would be difficult with their new official positions, but she nodded, finding comfort in his words.

โ€œLetโ€™s go back,โ€ Rafael said, stretching and looking towards the rising sun. โ€œSkye Embroidery has opened; we should add the womenโ€™s academy to the agenda.โ€

Carissa took a deep breath, weariness replaced by determination. โ€œYes, youโ€™re right.โ€
