Chapter 102: Second Chances
โIโm not okay with this,โ Easton declared, pausing after each word.
Regardless, Ellis wanted a divorce, and at this stage, he opposed anything that was proposed. Glancing unintentionally at Carly, he recalled Scott mentioning that Carly agreed with Ellisโs decision to divorce him, which surprised him. Ellis had said that Carly didnโt want them to divorce. Had she changed her mind?
Scout cleared his throat. โDragging this out isnโt the solution. A womanโs youth is more precious than a manโs. Donโt waste Ellisโs youth, making it hard for her to find another man to marry.โ
Carly had been nagging all afternoon. In the future, when Ellis looks for someone to marry, I must thoroughly vet them to ensure they are not like Easton. It was clear she was waiting for Ellis to be single again so she could introduce her to eligible men and then screen them to find the best match for a second marriage.
โAnother man to marry?โ
These three words, although not particularly shocking on their own, sent a chill down Carlyโs spine as she glanced at Easton involuntarily. As soon as he spoke, his face turned dark, casting a thick, inescapable shadow all around. It was Carlyโs first time seeing Easton look so upset, but she couldnโt help responding reflexively. โExactly. Donโt keep Ellis from finding her second spring.โ
Carly thought about it. Living in the manor came with a problemโwhere was she supposed to sleep? It definitely wouldnโt be on the eighth floor, Eastonโs territory. Last time she was forced to sleep with Easton, she felt disgusted afterward; she was now unwilling to stay in a place that brought back bad memories. So, after much thought, Ellis sought out Carly. This was a minor issue to bring to Scott; asking Carly made the most sense. After searching, she spotted Carly on the second floor.
As soon as her gaze fully turned toward Carly, a handsome yet cold face entered her view. The owner of the face noticed the added presence and quickly shifted his gaze toward her.
โEllis!โ Eastonโs deep, forceful voice rang out, accompanied by undeniable displeasure. Simultaneously, he strode toward her.
โThat damn scumbag!โ She cursed internally, taking a few steps back. Ellis retreated at the sight of him, almost a muscle memory by now, acting subconsciously. He couldnโt quite explain his feelings at that moment, but Carlyโs words echoed endlessly in his ears, making it seem like he was about to explode.
Furious to the extreme!
Chapter 102: Second Chance
Ellis, how dare she plan to find another man to marry before we are even divorced?
โCome here!โ He demanded, staring into her innocent, clear eyes, his large hand landing on her shoulder, forcing her to move with his steps.
โWhatโs going on?โ Ellis felt utterly bewildered. Why did this scumbag seem so angry every time he saw me? Is he regretting calling me away from the Hudson Group during the day? Preparing to strike back on behalf of Victoria?
As Carly and Scott looked on, puzzled, she tried to pull away from Eastonโs grip while moving toward Carly, but his grip was strong, controlling her firmly. After walking a bit, she exerted all her strength to stop herself from being led by Easton, and asked irritably, โShen, what are you doing?โ
If Scott werenโt watching, sheโd have liked to yell, โYou psycho!โ โI should be asking you that!โ Eastonโs tone was not to be trifled with, subtly hinting at a lethal intent.
Ellis pondered. Wasnโt I just getting Mr. Scott to help handle this scumbag who refuses to divorce me? His presence tonight proves Mr. Scottโs efficiencyโthe problem is being handled immediately!
โIโve made myself clear; Iโm getting a divorce.โ Her gaze shifted past Eastonโs shoulder to Carly and Scott, grinding her teeth to keep herself from lashing out physically.
โEaston, let go of Ellis!โ Carlyโs reaction was swift as she hurried over. โEllis owes you nothing; she just wants to divorce you.โ
โCarly, I respect you as my elder and as Ellisโs adopted daughter, but that doesnโt mean Iโll tolerate you meddling in our marriage! Iโm doing this for Ellisโฆโ
โShut up!โ
As the commanding words fell, Ellis finally noticed the storm brewing on Eastonโs face, every crease a sign of his anger. She couldnโt understand why wanting a divorce was treated like committing some heinous crime by Easton, dragging it out as if, were Carly and Scott not here, he might have ended her life on the spot.
โDad,โ Carly turned to her father for help. โLook at Easton; is this how you speak to your elders?โ
โCarly is right; you shouldnโt speak to her like that.โ Scott spoke calmly. โAs for the divorce, youโd better agree to it, whether you like it or not. Ellis is not suited to be your wife, nor to be the lady of the Hudson family.โ
