Chapter 12: I Wonโt Beg You
That said, he couldnโt help but feel a bit like he was watching a drama.
Is Ellis really willing to walk away with nothing and hand over the position of Mrs. Hudson to Victoria? Will the boss really not spare any money for Ellis? Is it true that the richer people are, the stingier they become?
Before his thoughts could wander too far, Jackson noticed his boss subtly furrowing his brows and looking at him with a sharp gaze. Jacksonโs body instantly stiffened; he cleared his mind and stilled his curiosity.
Not only did the Hudson Group hold some of Ellisโs personal belongings, but there was also a lot left at the Hudson residence. After a moment of thought, Ellis decided to go to the Hudson residence first before going to Mayaโs.
Stepping into the place she once considered โhome,โ her emotions were quite complex. This house was the wedding home she had carefully chosen herself, without any input from Easton. Soon, a new mistress will be moving in. No, that canโt be right. With Eastonโs wealth after marrying Victoria, why would he want to live in a โsecondhand houseโ that I once lived in? When marrying someone you donโt love, any wedding home will do. However, when marrying the person you love, the wedding home must be chosen with great care. Everything I have struggled to obtain, Victoria will have without the need to put in any effort.
A pang of bitterness rose in her heart as Ellis tried to suppress her sadness and made her way to the bedroom she once shared with Easton. It would be a huge project to take all her personal belongings. Besides, she hadnโt forgotten Eastonโs words in the hospital. Relying on her memory, she tried to take only the personal items she had purchased with her own money along with the necessary personal documents. After rummaging through her things, she realized it had grown dark outside. She then took the elevator downstairs while pulling her suitcase along.
Unexpectedly, she bumped into a tall, imposing figure. The figure looked down at her.
โYou were just discharged from the hospital yesterday; youโve spent the night at Mayaโs, went to the company today to submit your resignation, and even had Jackson relay your foolishness. What are you playing at now? Running away from home?โ As he finished speaking, Easton let out a disdainful scoff.
Even though it wasnโt the first time she faced such mockery from him, Ellis still felt an unprecedented sting.
โMr. Hudson, is your comprehension really that poor? Was I not clear enough? A divorce that involves a clean break means Iโm serious about separating before the divorce.โ She refused to back down and lifted her chin instead.
โOh, is that so!โ Easton turned to glance at the butler beside him, who looked shocked. The butler hadnโt meant to eavesdrop on the conversation between Ellis and Easton; he was merely passing by when he overheard.
Now, under Eastonโs gaze, the butler wished he could simply vanish on the spot. After all, โselective deafnessโ is the most basic professional skill; there are just certain things that youโre not supposed to overhear.
โCome over and check her luggage!โ Just as the butler lifted his left foot, he heard Eastonโs command. For a moment, the butler was stunned and could not comprehend Eastonโs command; he simply stared blankly. However, Ellis understood him immediately and glared at him as she asked, โEaston, what is the meaning of this?โ
โLetโs see just how much backbone you have.โ His words confused Ellis even more.
โDonโt cry about wanting a divorce while taking away all the bank cards I gave you,โ Easton indicated to the butler to hurry. โAlso, Iโll remind you that Iโve run out of patience. If you step out that door today, donโt think you can ever come back.โ
Watching the butler cautiously take away her suitcase, Ellis felt utterly humiliated. It turned out that in the eyes of someone who didnโt love her, she was merely an object to be treated however he pleased. No matter the occasion or who was nearby, it didnโt change his humiliation toward her.
โWho cares about coming back here!โ She pressed her lips together, fighting back her negative emotions. โEven if you beg me, I wonโt step back in! Hurry up and find a lawyer to finalize the divorce details with Maya: I refuse to maintain this marriage for another second!โ
โTrying to act tough?โ Easton stepped closer, casting his imposing shadow over her.
โI hope you can stay true to your words. Donโt come begging me in a few days. Because by that time, even kneeling down wonโt help you.โ He said it in a slowed-down tone. As the manโs words settled, an air of mockery and contempt surrounded them.
Ellis couldnโt take it anymore. She wanted to retort but found no strength to do so. If Easton had treated her this way before Maya returned, she would have had the energy to argue with him and create a scene. Afterwards, she could have reassured herself that he simply didnโt love her yet, so he didnโt have to consider her feelings for now. She believed that once he finally fell in love with her, everything would be fine. But now, with Maya back by his side, her actions felt futile, even humiliating.
โI wonโt beg you, and I certainly wonโt kneel to you!โ She gritted her teeth.
The man seemed not to have heard her words and continued, โBy the way, Iโm not the same person I was three years ago. My mother can no longer pressure me.โ
Upon hearing the mention of three years ago, a bitter taste spread across Ellisโs mouth. She had become Eastonโs wife largely thanks to his mother, who genuinely liked her. Once she learned about Ellis and Eastonโs relationship, she instantly envisioned her as the daughter-in-law of the Hudson family.
