Chapter 121: No Climbing Out
From start to finish, that scumbag was an utter mystery. Disgusted by sharing the same air with him, Ellis headed to the balcony. The butler was nearby, directing the workers, which only added to her irritation. Doing her best to block everyone out, she focused on escape plans while taking in the pitch-black night view.
Ellis stood silently on the balcony, her back to him, causing Eastonโs brows to furrow. The balcony was enclosed; there was no climbing out to freedom this time. The image of her previous escape attempts replayed in his mind, his heart feeling oddly squeezed and then left hanging.
Affected by the discomfort in his heart, he found himself walking over to her. Standing behind Ellis, she showed no reaction. Under the night sky, her small, delicate face radiated unhappiness and annoyance.
โWhat are you thinking about?โ
His flat inquiry echoed around, and without needing to look back, Ellis knew it was that scumbag who asked. Her expression unchanged, she pretended not to hear him. Communicating with this scumbag is impossible! To put it bluntly, the scumbag didnโt understand plain English, so she wasnโt about to respond to him tonight.
Failed escape attempts were annoying enough! Having to deal with nonsensical conversations with that scumbag only added to her frustration! Ellis remained motionless, not even glancing his way, which Easton found increasingly irritating, especially her dismissive attitude.
If she didnโt want to deal with him, heโd make sure she had to.
โAnnoyed about how to escape?โ
As he spoke, his gaze shifted from Ellisโs face to her slender waist, unable to remember the last time heโd hugged her from behind. Their hugs were usually initiated by her running into his arms or during their most intimate moments, which he enjoyed, but she didnโt. Whenever he ignored her, she would try to please him by initiating those moments.
Right now, he wasnโt thinking about that; his heart was still in limbo, accompanied by a trace of fear. He couldnโt pinpoint his fearโperhaps it was a profound respect for life! He couldnโt stand seeing life treated carelessly. Amidst his tangled thoughts, he felt an urgent need to stabilize his heart.
Watching Ellis so close, he unconsciously spread his arms and wrapped them around her waist like vines. The closeness of their bodies generated warmth, raising their body temperatures. He drew comfort from the warmth of Ellisโs body, calming his heart for a moment.
Suddenly feeling something press against her back, Ellis was startled. The next moment, seeing the large hands on her waist, she bristled, exclaiming, โYou psycho, why are you hugging me?โ
โBecause I want to.โ
That scumbag responded with infuriating entitlement, and she struggled to pry his hands off. โNo way! Stop being so annoying!โ She was not his human toy to just grab and hug!
โStop moving. Iโll just hold you for a bit, then let go.โ The shadow of fear was persistent, neither suppressed nor easilyโฆ
It was a tangible, warm comfort that allowed him to find peace amidst his fears.
โHug youโฆโ Ellis used every brain cell and all her vocabulary to curse at that scumbag, while also trying to pinch off his hands.
Unable to free myself and not allowed to fight back? Interestingly, he let her be, almost indulging her, making it hard to understand his madness.
Finally, before she completely lost her cool, that scumbag, true to his word, let her go. Now free to turn around and use her hands, the first thing she did was furiously punch him in the chest, wishing her hands were knives to stab him precisely.
โOuch.โ Easton covered his slightly pained chest, his eyebrows forming a deep furrow. โEllis, are you trying to kill me? Iโm your husband!โ
Kill husband? The idea sounded absurd. A so-called husband who was hardly a husband at all, Easton had some nerve!
โWhy would I kill you myself? Iโd be risking my life then.โ Ellis replied with a sarcastic smile, โI should hire someone, place no one knows about, to do it; that way, when youโre dead, I wouldnโt have to face the death penalty or prison. I could inherit your wealth and live comfortably for the rest of my life.โ
Eastonโs lips twitched slightly, โDream on! If I die, youโre going down with me!โ
โYouโre dreaming if you think Iโd join you in death!โ
Pushing that annoying scumbag away, Ellis returned to the room, scanning the people working on the windows.
โAre you guys always this slow? Why isnโt it done yet?โ
Seeing those people was just irritating; she wanted to lie down. Catching a glimpse of Easton following Ellis, the butler cautiously added, โMrs. Hudson, it will be ready in half an hour.โ
The butler had made one mistake by not keeping Ellis; there couldnโt be another.
