Chapter 124: Under Watchful Eyes
Victoria, you havenโt quite replaced Ellis yet. Faced with the groupโs barrage of comments, Victoria felt a touch of embarrassment. Morty had recovered from his shock and was composed once more. With Easton gone, their circle was missing its core spirit. Morty took charge, gesturing for everyone to quiet down.
Shortly after, as if nothing had happened, he called over a waiter to clean up, and they continued their gathering, though everyone was somewhat distracted, still shaken by the earlier scare. It wasnโt long before they all dispersed, with Victoria and Morty being the last to leave.
Before leaving, Victoria spoke with a hint of sorrow, โIs your information even accurate? Last time I mentioned divorce to Easton, he didnโt confirm anything. He even said you talk too much, and that itโd get you in trouble one day.โ
โYou said good things take time, didnโt you? Now youโre blaming me?โ Morty touched the spot on his head that nearly got hit by Easton. โYouโre useless! You should think about how to make up for the damage your family caused by breaking off your engagement with Easton! Maybe heโs still holding a grudge about that.โ
โWho would have thought Easton would lose the inheritance battle? Our family would never allow me to marry a man who only lives off a trust fund.โ
Back then, Easton was at a clear disadvantage, treated as a discard by Scout. Victoria had believed Easton had the potential to rise again, but her parents hurriedly sent her abroad, forcing her to start over when she returned.
โEaston was so harsh tonight; I canโt help you out for a while. Youโre on your own.โ Morty had no intention of provoking Easton any further. Eastonโs reaction tonight was beyond his expectations, catching him off guard. It wouldnโt pay off if Easton, not yet divorced from Ellis, dealt with him first.
โThanks,โ Victoria eyed Mortyโs head. โOf all our friends, youโve been the most helpful and kind to me. Once I become Eastonโs wife, youโll definitely get a generous reward.โ
Morty subtly shifted, avoiding Victoriaโs scrutinizing gaze, and smiled silently. What he wanted was never the rewards Victoria promised; those were as good as empty checks. Besides, whether Victoria could fulfill her promises was still uncertain.
Locked up in Dynasty Estate for four days, Ellis was irritated every single day. Especially from the second day on, several cameras on the ceiling monitored her every move relentlessly. Although that scumbag hadnโt appeared before her again, each movement of the cameras gave her the eerie feeling that he was watching her through their lenses.
Throwing back the covers, she peeked out from under the blankets and glared at the rotating camera, then stared expressionlessly at the female bodyguard sitting nearby. This bodyguard was as obedient as a brick, always sticking close!
โCould you possibly not stand within my line of sight?โ Ellis pressed down her irritation, asking as calmly as she could. โCouldnโt you stand outside the door with your colleague instead?โ
โIโm sorry, Mrs. Hudson! My orders for today are to stay in your room, and tomorrow Iโll be stationed at the door.โ The bodyguardโs reply was crisp and clear, darkening Ellisโs mood further.
When would these days end? Frustrated, Ellis turned on the projector to watch a light-hearted comedy film to lighten her mood. The butler had been considerately worried about her getting bored, having supplied her with a stack of books and installed the projector, even asking if she had any other needs to pass the time.
Chapter 124: Under Watchful Eyes
As the movie started, a dreadful thought flashed through her mind. Could I really spend my whole life in this personal prison? Just as the thought arose, Ellis bolted upright in bed. No, I have to think of a way to escape again. Before she could finish her thought, the door burst open with a bang.
Easton entered with a grim look, commanding the female bodyguard, โGet out!โ Watching the bodyguard leave, Ellis frowned as that scumbag approached. What does he want now!
Unaware of his intentions, Ellis leaned back down, readjusting her position to watch the movie more comfortably, treating that scumbag as if he were thin air.
โGet up.โ Easton stood by the bed, commanding her like he was issuing an order. She wasnโt one of his trained pets, ready to jump at his commands. Rolling her eyes at that scumbag, Ellis pointed toward the door, โGet out!โ Speaking even a single word seemed to exhaust all her patience with him.
โDo you want to get out of bed at all?โ For the past three days, Easton had seen on the monitors that Ellis spent most of her time in bedโeither watching TV, reading books, or just lying still under the blankets, asking the bodyguard to read to her. His mixed signalsโsometimes asking if she wanted to get out, other times ordering her around. What is his plan?
Ellis grabbed the remote and turned off the projector. The movie on the wall disappeared instantly, and silence spread.
