Chapter 126: Breaking Free
Cutting off Ellis and Carlyโs income sources, plunging them into financial struggle and piling on huge debts, was easy for him. Yet, doing so hadnโt taught Ellis any lesson; it seemed utterly pointless. She failed to recognize that he wasnโt a toy to be picked up and discarded at whim. Even if she did realize, she was unlikely to beg for his mercy; instead, it only drove her further away.
He hated being constantly remindedโmore than he disliked her insolenceโreminded that she wanted to divorce him, that she scorned the idea of being Mrs. Easton again, her ignoring and rejecting him, and the uncontrollable emotions that left Tim feeling out of place.
Stepping into her room again and facing her ghost-like stare, he pursed his lips. โEllis, are you scared? You look like youโve seen a ghost.โ
โThis trambagh unbelievable! Ellis had never met someone as annoying as him. Just lock me up here and stop parading around in front of me, will you?โ
Without verbally expressing her disdain for the despicable scumbag, Ellis resorted to body language. She gave him a scornful up-and-down look, then disdainfully closed her eyes.
The sight was unbearable, and it wasnโt the first time Easton had seen such a performance, but tonight it choked him up more than usual, making him emotionally unstable. Thinking back to the bottle of wine heโd thrown at Morty during a childhood friendsโ gathering, he suddenly realized how easily his emotions could spiral out of control because of her.
โIโll call Jacksonโฆโ
He intended to tell her that he had called off the plans against her and Carly, that she could lead a normal life once she left Dynasty Estate, but he couldnโt bring himself to say it. What good would telling her do? Would she be happy, grateful? Clearly, thatโs never going to happen.
Being emotionally influenced by others wasnโt a good sign; Easton had to nip it in the bud. He turned sideways, facing the door and away from Ellis on the bed. โYou should leave. Iโll have the driver take you back to Sunshine Estates.โ
Let Ellis find another man to marry if she wants. Their divorce didnโt bind her to mourn him for the rest of her life. Even in feudal times, no one expected fidelity after separation, let alone nowadays. Although the timing of her wanting to find another man was during their divorce talks, they had been separated for a while, merely married in name. In principle, even if she already had another man, it wouldnโt constitute infidelity.
Annoyed at first to hear Easton speak, when he uttered those words, Ellis sat up in disbelief. โSeriously? Youโre not locking meโฆ?โ
โBetter leave before I change my mind.โ
Once she was certain he wasnโt deceiving her, Ellis ran from the room as fast as she could, fearing any delay might inexplicably weigh on Eastonโs heart. The door had been shut, so the bodyguards stationed outside hadnโt heard their conversation.
As soon as Ellis opened the door, the bodyguards rushed to stop her. โMrs. Hudson, you canโt leave the room.โ
Ellis instinctively looked back at Easton standing behind her. Meeting her questioning gaze, Easton forcibly cleared the discomfort from his mind and spoke normally to the bodyguards. โYour job here is done.โ
With that, Ellisโs path was clear, and she ran like a cheetah, eager to distance herself from anything related to Easton, opting to take a cab home instead of waiting for the driver he might send.
A few minutes into the cab ride, the sight of Dynasty Estate disappeared behind her, and as she looked at the shabby interior of the cab and the driver ahead, Ellis felt an unreal sense of unreality.
Chapter 126: Breaking Free
No matter why Easton suddenly released her, from now on, whenever she saw him, sheโd take a detour, staying as far away as possible. The experience of being locked up by Easton, losing her freedom, was boring and terrifyingโshe never wanted to experience it again; it had nearly driven her mad.
As she neared home, remembering sheโd left her phone at the manor, Ellis changed her destination, deciding to retrieve her phone first. After all, in the modern world, being without a phone is immensely inconvenient.
Despite several attempts to rescue Ellis from Eastonโs clutches, Carly had been somewhat reassured by a call from Ellis saying she was safe. However, Carly couldnโt completely let down her guard. Therefore, when she saw Ellis appear in the middle of the night, she doubted her own eyes.
โMs. Carly!โ With a stunned expression, Ellis waved her hand in front of her. โWhatโs going on?โ
It wasnโt sleepwalking, nor was it failing eyesight; it was really Ellis! Carly hastily grabbed Ellieโs hand, examining her thoroughly, asking, โEaston didnโt harm you, did he?โ
