Chapter 160: Doorstep Debacles

โ€œIโ€™m not here to do anything,โ€ Easton had planned to confront Ellis directly about her apparent fondness for marriage, but upon seeing her, the vague restlessness in his heart dissipated, and the emotional turmoil from his sleepless nights oddly began to calm.

โ€œAnnoying much? It hasnโ€™t been a few days since Jackson showed up, and now you treat my place like an asylum?โ€

Ellis recalled Jackson asking for her help, which was strangely unreasonable and made her wonder if Easton was setting her up. After sending Jackson away, now it was Eastonโ€™s turn to show upโ€”truly speechless.

โ€œHeโ€™s been fired.โ€

โ€œYou fired him?โ€ Surprised by the unexpected news, she asked.

But before she could continue, Easton sat down in the chair opposite her. His demeanor suggested he was at home, and she the guest.

โ€œYeah,โ€ Easton replied coolly.

โ€œWho said you could sit? Get up!โ€ Ellis glared at him, her look slightly fierce. She and Easton were no longer married, just strangers, yet he acted like he owned the place, which made her want to throw him out herself.

Face to face, Ellisโ€™s expression was not unlike the bride in his nightmare, the one who had stabbed him with a sword. A discomfort returned to Eastonโ€™s heart, and he pursed his lips slightly. Jackson coming over wasnโ€™t my doing. Donโ€™t pin that on me.

โ€œI donโ€™t care why he came: just get out of my house now!โ€ Ellis glanced at the door, her brow furrowing unintentionally. The lock had been changed, by Easton, who had arranged for the locksmith and knew her door code. Do I need to change it again to keep this scumbag out!

But even before the lock was changed, Easton had come and gone as he pleased; there was really no stopping him. Easton remained seated, quietly observing Ellis for a moment. Ellis had some sauce on her lips; despite her words being sharp, there was an unintentional charm about her.

Recalling the phone call from his mother earlier that day, he asked softly, โ€œHowโ€™s it going with Carly finding you another man to marry?โ€

Ellis thought she must have heard wrong. This scumbag is asking about my remarriage plans? Is he really that sick?

โ€œWhether I find another man to marry or not, whatโ€™s it to you?โ€ She picked up her phone, contemplating whether to call 911. โ€œIf youโ€™re so bored and think life is meaningless and want to find annoying things to do, I suggest you stop livingโ€ฆโ€

It took three months to divorce this scumbag, during which she developed a habit of cursing him out casually; even now, her words felt fairly mild to her. But when a cold, oppressive presence hit her, she instinctively shifted her gaze from her phone to the man across from her. His expression was dark, his eyes cloudy and brooding, his brows furrowed as if they could crush a fly.

Angry? Why should he be angry at me? He is trespassing into my home, and I am generous enough not to call the police on him; does he have any right to be angry?

As she continued to internally curse the scumbag, unexpectedly, he stood up. Due to his height advantage of nearly seven inches over her seated position, it felt like he was towering over her, intensifying the sense of oppression.

Is this scumbag going to lose his temper? She was wrong.

Chapter 160: Doorstep Debacles

I have thought he was never there.

If hard up to? Ellis watched the door, puzzled. Then, the door opened, and the man reappeared. She was completely baffled. What does this scumbag really want?

Easton didnโ€™t approach her again but stood at the door, his tone incomprehensible, โ€œI told you, the place youโ€™re living in isnโ€™t safe. Find somewhere else.โ€

โ€œHuh?โ€ Ellis was filled with question marks. Is this scumbag so petty that he canโ€™t stand his ex-wife living in the same city as him?

โ€œYouโ€ฆโ€ She rapidly thought of several clean insults. As she began to speak, the man closed the door. He left.

Staring at the door for a few minutes to make sure he wouldnโ€™t appear a third time, Ellis found her appetite completely gone.

Outside, Easton waited by the elevator, expecting it to arrive. He knew his behavior must have seemed strange to Ellis, but he didnโ€™t think it was odd.

Awakened by a nightmare, falling back to sleep was a challenge. Instead of lying in bed wasting time, he decided to do something, even though Ellis had suggested heโ€™d be better off dead, which only added to his irritation. This made him think about the times heโ€™d wished her dead so she could inherit his wealth.

Is she hoping Iโ€™d die soon? Suddenly, he really wanted to know. From the time she drugged me, leading to our physical relationship, over the five years, had she never felt anything for me, loving only my money? The question haunted him, causing a dull ache at the back of his head.
