Chapter 182: Rumor Has It
Is there trouble not just between Easton and Victoria, but between Morty and Easton too!
Easton, mystified by Morty ignoring him, was reminded of Ellis, which only added to his irritation.
Cameron entered the private room and glanced at the empty bottles Easton had been drinking from. Assuming the role of a loyal companion, he joked, โFighting with someone? Drowning your sorrows in booze? Careful, you might end up more miserable. Iโll join you for a few; maybe talking it out will help you feel better.โ
Easton wasnโt actually upset, but Cameronโs teasing made him slightly uncomfortable. Easton had never been one to share his feelings openly. From a young age, he was taught to keep his emotions hidden and that speaking too much could lead to trouble.
He took a sip from his drink and said flatly, โI donโt have any heart-to-hearts to share.โ
โCome on, everyone has something on their mind,โ Cameron laughed, continuing to tease. โIf itโs romantic troubles, maybe I can offer a fresh perspective. After all, itโs often easier to see clearly from the outside.โ
Based on his initial impression, Cameron wrongly assumed Eastonโs current mood had something to do with Victoria, concluding that Easton was so upset about something romantic he needed to drink it away.
โRomantic troubles?โ Easton scoffed. โAre you talking about love?โ
โYeah.โ Cameron nodded.
โWhat gave you the impression that Iโm troubled by love?โ Eastonโs cold gaze swept over Cameron. โDo you think everyone needs love?โ
โWell, not everyone, butโฆโ Cameron hesitated.
โI donโt need love, nor do I have romantic troubles. I just want to drink in peace. You can leave,โ Easton dismissed him curtly, uninterested in listening to unrealistic drivel.
Cameron looked stunned. If Easton didnโt need love, what was his relationship with Victoria?
Since he was essentially being kicked out, Cameron didnโt linger awkwardly but quickly made his exit.
It might have been Mortyโs slow walking pace, but Cameron caught up with him at the entrance of the club. Morty, unsurprised to see him, looked him up and down with disdain and said slowly, โKicked out by Easton.โ
It wasnโt a question, but a statement.
Seeing Mortyโs expectant look, Cameron tilted his head, pondering, โDo you have beef with Easton? Why do you guys act like you canโt stand each other?โ
Morty just raised an eyebrow and remained silent.
But that wasnโt what Cameron was most curious about; seizing the moment before Morty got into his car, he whispered, โWhatโs really going on with Easton and Victoria? Easton just said he doesnโt need love!โ
โWho knows?โ
Mortyโs noncommittal answer prompted Cameron to give him a playful punch.
โCome on, man! Weโre friends; canโt you give me the straight dope? Spill the beans?โ
Cameron wasnโt really into gossip, but he couldnโt help his curiosity.
Morty scanned the surroundings to ensure no one else could overhear them, then said with a hint of disdain, โNothingโs going on.โ
Cameronโs eyes widened, repeating like a parrot, โNothingโs going on?โ
As their driver pulled up and a valet came forward to open the door, Marty acted as if he didnโt see Cameronโs look of inquiry and quickly got into the car and left.
Watching the car drive away, Cameron was left to puzzle in the wind. Had Morty just revealed a bombshell! Were the rampant rumors about Victoria climbing to Mrs. Eastonโs status false? Why then did Victoria act like it was all true?
Scratching the back of his head, Cameron was baffled. Then, his curiosity shifted. What had Easton done to be dumped so harshly by Ellis?
The world seemed so bizarre. So bizarre that he felt like interviewing the parties involved himself to get the scoop.
The Tate Group and Nexus Group were kicking off a joint project, and by business convention, to foster good relations, both companies would host an inaugural ceremony and invite some media for news release coverage.
Currently, Ellis was busy with this project. She wasnโt involved deeply but still had to assist with the preparations. After several hectic days, all she could think about was whether sheโd get to rest over the weekend.
Her colleagues were discussing work just fine until the conversation veered off-topic.
โMr. Zion from Nexus Group is even more handsome than Mr. Morty!โ
โHow handsome?โ
โStunningly mature and refined! The kind you fall for at just one glance!โ
โNow that you mention it, Iโm really curious to meet him!โ
โI wonder if Mr. Zion will attend the kickoff.โ
As their eyes turned to Ellis, she browsed the event schedule and said without looking up, โMr. Zion wonโt be attending. Mr. Morty will.โ
Nexus Group had two people with the same surname, Unity, one being Mortyโs uncle Zion, and the other, Morty. When both are mentioned, they are usually distinguished as Mr. Zion and Mr. Morty.
โToo bad, we wonโt get to see the distinguished older gentleman.โ
