Chapter 182: Rumor Has It

Is there trouble not just between Easton and Victoria, but between Morty and Easton too!

Easton, mystified by Morty ignoring him, was reminded of Ellis, which only added to his irritation.

Cameron entered the private room and glanced at the empty bottles Easton had been drinking from. Assuming the role of a loyal companion, he joked, โ€œFighting with someone? Drowning your sorrows in booze? Careful, you might end up more miserable. Iโ€™ll join you for a few; maybe talking it out will help you feel better.โ€

Easton wasnโ€™t actually upset, but Cameronโ€™s teasing made him slightly uncomfortable. Easton had never been one to share his feelings openly. From a young age, he was taught to keep his emotions hidden and that speaking too much could lead to trouble.

He took a sip from his drink and said flatly, โ€œI donโ€™t have any heart-to-hearts to share.โ€

โ€œCome on, everyone has something on their mind,โ€ Cameron laughed, continuing to tease. โ€œIf itโ€™s romantic troubles, maybe I can offer a fresh perspective. After all, itโ€™s often easier to see clearly from the outside.โ€

Based on his initial impression, Cameron wrongly assumed Eastonโ€™s current mood had something to do with Victoria, concluding that Easton was so upset about something romantic he needed to drink it away.

โ€œRomantic troubles?โ€ Easton scoffed. โ€œAre you talking about love?โ€

โ€œYeah.โ€ Cameron nodded.

โ€œWhat gave you the impression that Iโ€™m troubled by love?โ€ Eastonโ€™s cold gaze swept over Cameron. โ€œDo you think everyone needs love?โ€

โ€œWell, not everyone, butโ€ฆโ€ Cameron hesitated.

โ€œI donโ€™t need love, nor do I have romantic troubles. I just want to drink in peace. You can leave,โ€ Easton dismissed him curtly, uninterested in listening to unrealistic drivel.

Cameron looked stunned. If Easton didnโ€™t need love, what was his relationship with Victoria?

Since he was essentially being kicked out, Cameron didnโ€™t linger awkwardly but quickly made his exit.

It might have been Mortyโ€™s slow walking pace, but Cameron caught up with him at the entrance of the club. Morty, unsurprised to see him, looked him up and down with disdain and said slowly, โ€œKicked out by Easton.โ€

It wasnโ€™t a question, but a statement.

Seeing Mortyโ€™s expectant look, Cameron tilted his head, pondering, โ€œDo you have beef with Easton? Why do you guys act like you canโ€™t stand each other?โ€

Morty just raised an eyebrow and remained silent.

But that wasnโ€™t what Cameron was most curious about; seizing the moment before Morty got into his car, he whispered, โ€œWhatโ€™s really going on with Easton and Victoria? Easton just said he doesnโ€™t need love!โ€

โ€œWho knows?โ€

Mortyโ€™s noncommittal answer prompted Cameron to give him a playful punch.

โ€œCome on, man! Weโ€™re friends; canโ€™t you give me the straight dope? Spill the beans?โ€

Cameron wasnโ€™t really into gossip, but he couldnโ€™t help his curiosity.

Morty scanned the surroundings to ensure no one else could overhear them, then said with a hint of disdain, โ€œNothingโ€™s going on.โ€

Cameronโ€™s eyes widened, repeating like a parrot, โ€œNothingโ€™s going on?โ€

As their driver pulled up and a valet came forward to open the door, Marty acted as if he didnโ€™t see Cameronโ€™s look of inquiry and quickly got into the car and left.

Watching the car drive away, Cameron was left to puzzle in the wind. Had Morty just revealed a bombshell! Were the rampant rumors about Victoria climbing to Mrs. Eastonโ€™s status false? Why then did Victoria act like it was all true?

Scratching the back of his head, Cameron was baffled. Then, his curiosity shifted. What had Easton done to be dumped so harshly by Ellis?

The world seemed so bizarre. So bizarre that he felt like interviewing the parties involved himself to get the scoop.

The Tate Group and Nexus Group were kicking off a joint project, and by business convention, to foster good relations, both companies would host an inaugural ceremony and invite some media for news release coverage.

Currently, Ellis was busy with this project. She wasnโ€™t involved deeply but still had to assist with the preparations. After several hectic days, all she could think about was whether sheโ€™d get to rest over the weekend.

Her colleagues were discussing work just fine until the conversation veered off-topic.

โ€œMr. Zion from Nexus Group is even more handsome than Mr. Morty!โ€

โ€œHow handsome?โ€

โ€œStunningly mature and refined! The kind you fall for at just one glance!โ€

โ€œNow that you mention it, Iโ€™m really curious to meet him!โ€

โ€œI wonder if Mr. Zion will attend the kickoff.โ€

As their eyes turned to Ellis, she browsed the event schedule and said without looking up, โ€œMr. Zion wonโ€™t be attending. Mr. Morty will.โ€

Nexus Group had two people with the same surname, Unity, one being Mortyโ€™s uncle Zion, and the other, Morty. When both are mentioned, they are usually distinguished as Mr. Zion and Mr. Morty.

โ€œToo bad, we wonโ€™t get to see the distinguished older gentleman.โ€
