Chapter 247: Your Ex, Again?

His personality was such that he could snatch back anything he gave, on a whim. Accepting his gifts was like inviting trouble; she wasnโ€™t that foolish.

After fixing the box back to its original state, Maya spoke up. โ€œYour ex shows up every now and then. Whatโ€™s he trying to do?โ€

โ€œWho knows? Maybe heโ€™s just crazy!โ€ Ellis really couldnโ€™t understand what Easton was up to with his bizarre actions that grossed her out. โ€œIf you see him, just ignore him.โ€

โ€œIโ€™ve never seen anyone like your ex! Does Victoria not care that he keeps chasing his ex-wife, like theyโ€™re still connected?โ€

โ€œVictoria couldnโ€™t even get Easton to divorce me willingly. Maybe she canโ€™t really control him.โ€

โ€œCanโ€™t control him, but should she try?โ€ Maya gazed into the distance, pondering. โ€œBoth of them are nuts.โ€

One keeps coming back to his ex-wife, and the other doesnโ€™t mind her man chasing his ex-wife, even going so far as to hire big, bad guys to beat up Ellisโ€”and not just once, but repeatedly, clearly wanting Ellis to pay dearly.

Really, like attracts like! A match made in madness! After venting by tossing the box into the trash and then retrieving it, Ellis said helplessly, โ€œI canโ€™t stand these people. I canโ€™t stay in Stonebridge another day!โ€

If not moving to another city, sheโ€™d at least need to get away, find a fresh start somewhere else. Otherwise, sheโ€™d go insane sooner or later.

โ€œIn life, youโ€™re bound to run into some disgusting people and situations,โ€ Maya consoled, patting Ellis on the shoulder. โ€œIโ€™ll find someone to return the crown to your ex tomorrow.โ€

โ€œSo why did you agree to take his stuff in the first place?โ€ Ellis was baffled.

โ€œI was afraid if I didnโ€™t agree, he wouldnโ€™t leave, and heโ€™d come looking for you. How scary would that be? With Victoria already a handful and the relentless Easton,โ€ Maya deeply sympathized with Ellis. โ€œA brief three-year marriage had brought her such lasting negative effects.โ€

โ€œSo annoying!โ€ Ellis felt a headache coming on.

Was there any way to get away from Stonebridge for a while? A job paying $140,000 a year, she really didnโ€™t want to give that up! As they discussed ways to handle Ellisโ€™s current predicament, Easton sat in his car on the street, listening to his assistantโ€™s report.

โ€œMr. Hudson. Carly hasnโ€™t successfully introduced any men to Ms. Harper.โ€

Being a CEOโ€™s assistant meant being on call the whole day; Eastonโ€™s sudden order to investigate how many men Carly had introduced to Ellis didnโ€™t surprise Taylor, given Eastonโ€™s attitude toward Ellis.

Hearing Taylorโ€™s report, Eastonโ€™s grim expression didnโ€™t lighten. The man who escorted Ellis home wasnโ€™t introduced by Carly. Then how did Ellis meet him!

Unable to suppress a surge of jealousy, he pursed his lips. โ€œCheck again, and find out about all the men Ellis has recently been in contact with, their backgrounds, and how she met them.โ€

โ€œYes, Mr. Hudson.โ€ After receiving the order, Taylor didnโ€™t immediately spring into action. She thought, based on the information Easton wanted to dig up, her intuition as a woman told her that Mrs. Hudsonโ€™s place would eventually return to Ellis, and Victoria would be perfectly ousted.

Hanging up, Easton instructed the driver, โ€œGo to Hudson mansion.โ€ Carly had moved back into the Hudson mansion, and he wanted to see her. At Eastonโ€™s command, Ronnie immediately redirected the car toward their destination.

Half an hour later at the Hudson mansion, Carly was drinking her beauty collagen soup, timing it just right for bedtime. Unexpectedly, an unwelcome guest arrived, looking terribly upset.

As her nephew suddenly visited, the collagen soup lost its appeal. Carly put down her bowl and stared coldly at her unwelcome nephew, her gaze flickering briefly outside.

โ€œItโ€™s late, Easton, whatโ€ฆโ€ As she spoke, she pondered what could bring Easton to her doorstep.

โ€œAunt Carly.โ€ Easton didnโ€™t get straight to the point but instead greeted her first. Carly immediately thought of courtesy before force, and shifted uncomfortably in her seat.

โ€œHave you been particularly free lately?โ€ Easton continued, using formal language, but Carly wasnโ€™t naive enough to think her nephew was showing her respect. She detected the sarcasm in Eastonโ€™s tone, accompanied by displeasure.

โ€œWhyโ€ฆwhy would you care if I am busy or not?โ€ Carly remembered all too well the hardships sheโ€™d faced because of her nephew, worried that he might be plotting a comeback, dragging her back into poverty.

โ€œIโ€™m here to remind Carly, donโ€™t do anything you shouldnโ€™t.โ€ Eastonโ€™s words carried a strong warning, leaving Carly puzzled. What had I done recently to offend him?
