Chapter 289: Blocked and Loaded

Ellis found Eastonโ€™s question almost laughable, as if he couldnโ€™t understand the words she was saying. Which home should I return to? Strictly speaking, she didnโ€™t really have one.

She once thought the house she shared with Easton was her home, but in the end, she was unceremoniously evicted with just a few bags in hand. The Hudson mansion, where Emma lived, wasnโ€™t her home either; and the place she rented was just a place to stay. She felt like a drifter without a warm harbor, currently unable to afford her own place.

Glaring at Easton, she warned him with her eyes to get lost. In front of all these colleagues, she really didnโ€™t want to embarrass herself. Easton was disrespecting her, and she had to respect herself! Receiving the girlโ€™s warning, Easton couldnโ€™t quite pinpoint the feeling inside, but he felt suffocated.

In the past three years, she often prattled about not wanting to leave her home and liked going to different places with him during the New Year. Now, he couldnโ€™t even coax her to visit the Hudson mansion for a short while.

โ€œYou wonโ€™t go back to the Hudson mansion, so how about visiting my momโ€™s place to wish her a happy New Year? Sheโ€™s mentioned you a few times, said she has a New Yearโ€™s gift for you. Why not pick it up?โ€ He wasnโ€™t lying; Sophia really did intend to give Ellis a New Yearโ€™s gift.

No matter what Sophia sent, Ellis didnโ€™t want it. Accepting a New Yearโ€™s gift from her former mother-in-law felt weird. But Sophia had put thought into it, and strangely, Ellis was curious about how Easton and Sophia could be so different. Sophia was a kind person, whereas to her, Easton was nothing but a villain. He never treated her like a human being, ready to humiliate her whenever he wished, and would casually set traps to make her life miserable, waiting for her to fall in and never recover.

Feeling the continued glances from her colleagues, Ellis couldnโ€™t take it anymore. She stood up, grabbed Eastonโ€™s wrist with force, and said with a warning tone, โ€œMr. Hudson seems to have lost his way on his first visit to our company. Let me escort you out.โ€

It was winter, and they were wearing thick clothes, but when she raised her hand, her wrist became exposed, feeling the unfamiliar warmth from Eastonโ€™s wrist. Easton looked down at her hand grasping his wrist. Once, she would touch him without any prompt, even just a few months ago. But now, it felt like something from a previous life. His eyes revealed a hint of greed, wishing she would hold onto his hand a little longer.

As they entered the elevator and the doors closed, removing them from the view of others, Ellis immediately let go of Eastonโ€™s hand. She glared at the man standing beside her, discontentedly saying, โ€œAre you full of it? Coming here to annoy me, what do you get out of it? Are you that idle, bothering me for no reason?โ€

Her eyes were wide and reflective, and looking down at her, Easton desperately wanted to pull her into his arms and smell her unique freshness, to satisfy his longing. But he restrained himself. He hadnโ€™t come here to upset her and make her hate him more.

He pursed his lips, โ€œDonโ€™t think Iโ€™m just idly trying to annoy you.โ€

Ellis controlled her urge to lash out, just giving her ex a dismissive glance, โ€œIf youโ€™re not idle, who is? How free must you be? I told you, I wonโ€™t remarry you. What are you trying to do?โ€

She wasnโ€™t bewitching him, not capable of casting any spells to cloud his mind! Looking her straight in the eyes, Easton repeated a phrase in his mind over and over.

I miss you, I want to see you. Eight simple words, but even if he used all his strength, he couldnโ€™t bring himself to say them. Acknowledging his feelings for Ellis and proving he genuinely wanted to remarry her was already his limit. He wasnโ€™t good with sweet nothings, never had been; it was always her who sweet-talked him.

He shifted slightly to face Ellis. When her ex suddenly avoided eye contact and refused to communicate, Ellisโ€™s forehead creased with annoyance. What is he playing at? Am I just some toy for him to amuse himself with when heโ€™s bored? With Easton silent, she fell silent too, and they rode the elevator down in silence.

Having dragged her ex out of the executive office to avoid her colleagues watching them like a spectacle, she accomplished her goal and didnโ€™t bother to kick him out of the building. Not stepping out of the elevator, she gestured for her ex to leave quickly so she could go back up. Unexpectedly, her ex didnโ€™t move, muttering something in a low voice. Annoyed and not catching his words, she frowned, โ€œStop wasting words, just go!โ€

โ€œYouโ€ฆโ€ Easton raised his voice to a normal level, though he still struggled to speak, โ€œcould you add me back on WhatsApp, take my number off your block list?โ€

Hearing Eastonโ€™s request clearly, Ellis raised her eyebrows in surprise.
