Chapter 296: Toast, Roast, and Boast

Cameron felt the girl looked familiar. After a moment, he recognized her from Easton and Ellisโ€™s weddingโ€”she was the maid of honor, even though he rarely interacted with Ellis. What was her name? Maya, right?

Scanning the room, Cameron spotted several familiar faces and couldnโ€™t help asking, โ€œWhatโ€™s going on here?โ€

It was tense, like something out of a scene where Ellisโ€™s best friend was being bullied, prompting Ellis to step in.

Just as Cameron had guessed, Maya was indeed being bullied. Her phone had been dunked in a drink as a joke, and she was being forcefully fed alcohol, unable to leave.

Upon arrival, Ellis found Maya being coerced into drinking by none other than Andrew.

Hearing Cameronโ€™s question, Andrew smirked cheekily, โ€œMr. Cameron, weโ€™re just having fun, canโ€™t you tell?โ€

Cameron wasnโ€™t part of Andrewโ€™s clique. Looking at Andrewโ€™s smug grin, he seemed like a no-good thug. He glanced at Ellis and her friend, asking, โ€œEllis, whatโ€™s your take?โ€

Andrew had merely invited a junior lawyer to enjoy some leisure time in hopes of securing a legal services contract for his familyโ€™s company. Thinking the lawyer was easy prey, he aimed to take her to bed. But she was no pushover.

Unexpectedly, the former Mrs. Hudson came looking for the lawyer, appearing to rescue her, but Andrew was unfazed.

Ellis, with no influence or substantial inheritance from Easton, had fallen from grace and was practically a nobody. If it hadnโ€™t been for her looks, even Andrew might have considered having his way with her.

Ellis, urged by Cameron to describe the situation, knew Andrew wasnโ€™t intimidated. People generally avoid meddling, and with Ellis ousted from high society, it seemed unlikely that Cameron would bother.

Ellis knew Andrewโ€™s true colorsโ€”lechery was his nature. It wasnโ€™t the right time to question Maya why she hung out with Andrew. Seeing her safe, albeit drunk, eased Ellisโ€™s mind, but Andrew stubbornly refused to let her take Maya away, sparking the conflict.

Ellis refused to give Andrew any face as she pointedly said at the door, โ€œSomebodyโ€™s acting like a thug.โ€

It was clear whom she meant.

Andrew, undisturbed, still smiling, said, โ€œMrs. Hudsonโ€”no, the former Mrs. Hudson, youโ€™re being harsh. You misunderstand me. Iโ€™m a legitimate businessman just giving your friend a chance at my companyโ€™s contract.โ€

Ellis bit her red lip in displeasure at Andrewโ€™s demeaning words. Andrew dared to speak like this because he knew she was no longer of high status, and she didnโ€™t expect anyone to defend her, preparing to retort on her own.

However, Cameron suddenly spoke up, โ€œWhat kind of legitimate businessman are you, always up to no good, picking on young girls? You even dare mess with Ellis and her best friend. Are you asking for trouble?โ€

Cameronโ€™s reprimand caught everyone off guard, Andrew most of all. Without any pretense, Andrew directly asked, โ€œSo, youโ€™re going to stand up for them?โ€

Even if Morty hadnโ€™t asked him to help Ellis out, Cameron would still intervene out of sheer disdain for Andrewโ€™s bully-boy tactics against the girls.

Pointing warningly at Andrew, Cameron affirmed, โ€œYou bet I am.โ€

Seeing this, Andrew quickly backed down, โ€œMr. Cameron, I was just joking. Why take it so seriously?โ€

Crossing Cameron was bad for business, especially since the Monash family was more influential and wealthier than his own.

After speaking with Cameron, Andrew returned to his friendly demeanor, telling Ellis and Maya, โ€œMs. Maya has had a bit tooโ€ฆ

Auchrew almost used another insulting nickname for Ellis, although he stopped himself in time. Though it was clearly mean, Ellis decided not to retort. Luckily, she could take Ataya away smoothly.

She said nothing, poured out the drink soaking Mayaโ€™s phone, wrapped the phone in a napkin, and, linking arms with Maya, headed straight for the door.

Just as they were about to leave, Cameronโ€™s voice floated over, โ€œHey, this isnโ€™t over!โ€

Grateful for Cameronโ€™s help not once but twice during the ordeal, Ellis smiled and thanked him, โ€œCameron, thank you.โ€

Remembering Mortyโ€™s instructions to meet by the front gate, Cameron said, โ€œYou and your friend wait for me at the main entrance.โ€

Unsure of what Cameron planned, but grateful for his help, Ellis knew she couldnโ€™t forget someone who had just aided her.
