Chapter 302: Eastonโ€™s Threat

Ellis cut him off. โ€œStop. I donโ€™t want to argue with you about pointless stuff. Stay away from me, and donโ€™t let me see your face.โ€ With that said, she pulled Maya along and left.

This time, Easton did not chase after her. He just stood there, watching the girlโ€™s receding back. Determined to win her back and earn her forgiveness, Baston decided to start over and pursue her again. But Ellis was stubborn. She was also like a hedgehog, warning him to keep his distance.

A faint sense of despair crept in. His hands hung loosely at his sides, and a trace of bewilderment flickered in his eyes.

Morty and Cameron had been watching from outside the restaurant the entire time. They saw Ellis leave with Maya, leaving Easton standing there alone. Under the night sky, his tall frame was subtly shrouded in sorrow.

Cameron, as if discovering a whole new world, let out a surprised, โ€œHuh,โ€ before saying in disbelief, โ€œIs this really the Easton we know? I never thought the almighty Mr. Hudson could look like this in front of his ex-wife.โ€

Morty didnโ€™t find it as shocking as Cameron did, but he was still slightly taken aback.

โ€œEaston, heโ€ฆโ€ Cameron perked up, eager to hear what Morty had to say.

But to his disappointment, Morty fell silent. Still, he understood whyโ€”Easton had turned around, facing them directly. Even from a distance, Eastonโ€™s sharp gaze swept toward them. Cameron instinctively rubbed his eyes as he was momentarily stunned.

The sorrow that had seemed to shroud Easton earlierโ€ฆ Was it just an illusion? Because if he wasnโ€™t mistaken, Eastonโ€™s eyes were now brimming with hostility. Not just irritation, but the kind of murderous intent that made a man want to tear someone apart.

Cameron was baffled. Ellis had thrown attitude at Easton, yet somehow, we are the ones bearing his wrath? Seriously? What did we do? If he had known, he wouldnโ€™t have informed Easton of what happened to Ellis. Regret filled Cameronโ€™s heart, and he wanted to escape.

Morty met Eastonโ€™s gaze without a flicker of emotion, if the coldness didnโ€™t reach him at all. Cameron, on the other hand, was nearly sweating. What the hell is going on between these two?

Eastonโ€™s voice had been cold before, but this was different. There was something dangerous beneath the surface, something that made Cameron seriously reconsider his life choices. Should I just turn and walk away? Would that be cowardly, or just smart?

But then he glanced at Morty. The guy stood there, completely unfazed, as if Easton wasnโ€™t looking at him like he wanted to bury him alive.

Cameron hesitated. Leaving Morty alone with Easton felt kind of heartless. Besides, what if they really started throwing punches? Someone had to be the responsible adult here. Not that he actually thought it would come to that. Both men were usually composed and controlled.

So, against his better judgment, Cameron stayed. Well, not that it mattered because right now, he was being ignored as if he wasnโ€™t there.

Facing Easton, Morty effortlessly concealed his true thoughts and responded with a casual smile, โ€œEaston, what do you need? Are you planning to join us for a late-night snack before heading home?โ€

Mortyโ€™s reaction took Cameron by surprise. Just a moment ago, Morty looked like he couldnโ€™t care less about Easton; Cameron had fully expected him to be cold and dismissive. But now? Is he actually smiling and talking to Easton? Has Morty been lying about their falling out?

Easton cast a glance at the food on the table before lowering his gaze to Morty, who was still seated. His voice was cold. โ€œDonโ€™t interact with Ellis.โ€

Mortyโ€™s expression remained unchanged. โ€œWhy?โ€

โ€œThere is no why.โ€ Eastonโ€™s eyes shifted past the glass window, locking in the direction where Ellis had disappeared. โ€œYouโ€™re free to make your own choices, but if you ignore my words, there will be consequences you wonโ€™t be able to bear!โ€

In the past, he never cared whether Ellis had other men around her. But today, things were different. He had to care, as he had never expected the person to make him feel a sense of crisis would be his childhood friend, Morty.

Ellis once complained to him about whether Morty was two-faced, always saying one thing and doing another. He hadnโ€™t taken it seriously at the time, but now it seemed that Morty was no different from Victoria; they both liked playing these kinds of games.

Hearing Eastonโ€™s words, Cameron was completely confused. What is going on between these two? Why is Easton warning Morty? Is there something shady about him interacting with Ellis?

And it wasnโ€™t just a warning; there was a heavy sense of threat in his tone. It was as if the moment Morty continued associating with Ellis, something bad was bound to happen to him.

At that moment, Cameron fully believed what Morty had said about their falling out. If they hadnโ€™t cut ties, there was no way Easton would be speaking to him like this.

Mortyโ€™s smile gradually faded. He slowly stood up from his chair and looked Easton straight in the eye.
