Chapter 333: Sorry Not Sorry
Accustomed to Eastonโs typically aloof demeanor, Ellis was surprised when he suddenly apologized, but she still glared at him.
โBecause of you, I always have bad luck; seeing you just annoys me!โ
Easton was like a jinx; whoever associated with him faced misfortune. If it werenโt for the dull pain and dizziness in her head, she would have gotten up and slapped him across the face.
โYou should rest; Iโll handle Victoria.โ
Easton unconsciously reached out to touch her forehead, but her furious glare silently warned him that if he dared to touch her, sheโd get up and punch him right then and there.
Withdrawing his hand, he asked, โAre you hungry? What would you like to eat? Iโll have someone prepareโฆโ
Ellis didnโt feel hungry, only dizzy and nauseous.
With the Brooks family gone, how does Victoria still have money to hire people to kidnap me? And to think they want to take me to Varneshโdo they plan to kill me? Was Stonebridge custom-made for my misfortune?
Whenever she was in Stonebridge, trouble was guaranteed. Sheโd been to the hospital several times just this year.
She closed her eyes in frustration and pointed toward the door, โGet out!โ
After a pause, remembering she was in a hospital, she added, โCall Maya for me.โ
Right now, she didnโt want to see anyone but her best friend. As she finished speaking, someone entered the room.
โEllis, how are you feeling?โ
The greeting and footsteps came together, and Ellis opened her eyes again. It was Sophia.
While Sophia inspected her condition, she disdainfully pushed her son aside to get a better view.
As a senior, Ellis couldnโt treat Sophia the way she treated Easton and managed a faint smile, โThank you for your concern, Madam Sophia. Iโm fine.โ
โHow can you be fine? Youโre in the hospital!โ Sophia then scrutinized her son and scolded, โHow could you not protect the person you love?โ
The person you love? That description made Ellis feel uneasy, almost creepy.
Ellis froze for a moment, staring blankly at Sophia.
Unaware of her reaction, Sophia continued to press her son, โWhere is Ellis hurt?โ
Easton, having heard his motherโs words, showed a fleeting blush of embarrassment in his eyes. He awkwardly shifted his gaze away from Ellis and said quietly, โShe has a mild concussion and needs toโฆโ
Then you need to take good care of Ellis, Sophia interjected.
Watching the motherโson interaction, Ellis felt something was off. Sophiaโs attitude clearly treated her like a daughter-in-law, even though she and Easton had never divorced.
Ellis covered her eyes with her hand, opting for out of sight, out of mind.
Regardless of whether the elder intervened or not, she was determined not to reconcile with Easton, as firm as when she had decided to divorce. So, let Sophiaโs choice of words be.
Seeing her seemingly troubled by the light, Sophia asked, โEllis, did you not get enough sleep, or is something else bothering you?โ
โI didnโt get enough sleep; I want to sleep some more,โ Ellis replied with a forced smile, keeping her hand over her eyes.
With Sophia present, it wasnโt appropriate to treat Easton harshly; she had to pretend to be calm. After all, Easton was Sophiaโs only child and her biological son. In front of his mother, she had to restrain herself to avoid Sophiaโs disapproval.
Sophia turned to Easton, โBy the way, did you send the kidnappers who tried to abduct Ellis to the police station?โ
Easton confirmed that the kidnappers had been dealt with. Last yearโs ordeal, where both Ellis and Victoria were kidnapped, had caused a stir. Fortunately, both were safe, but Easton hadnโt handled it well, focusing too much on Victoria.
โTheyโve been sent,โ Easton had ordered his bodyguards to do so yesterday.
Last yearโs kidnappers were severely punished, facing over a decade in prison. This time would be no different. Moreover, the mastermind, Victoria, who thought she could evade justice by staying abroad, was sorely mistaken. She would be brought back to face trial.
Sophia gently patted Eastonโs shoulder, โEllis wants to sleep; letโs not disturb her. Come outside and talk with me.โ
Ellis had claimed she wanted to sleep, but Easton saw right through the lie; she just didnโt want to see him. His mother calling him out, he reluctantly agreed and stepped outside the VIP room.
The spacious VIP room put some distance between the bed and the doorway. Ellis, curious about the motherโson conversation, couldnโt hear a thing.
She removed her hand from her eyes, glanced towards the door, then quickly scanned the room for her phone. However, her phone was nowhere in sight, but she spotted Eastonโs.
Reaching for it, she didnโt bother with a passcode; instead, she positioned her face in front of the camera. The next second, the screen displayed โunlocked successfully.โ
