Chapter 346: Broken Vows and Lingering Lies
โVictoria can vouch for me! Iโll take you to her!โ
Easton couldnโt hide the crack in his voice; his emotions spiraled out of control. He couldnโt accept her indifference and avoidance. She had clearly misunderstood his relationship with Victoria for a long time; why had she never said anything about it? Had her only concern been whether she could hold onto the title of Mrs. Hudson? As for whether he had been involved with other women, she couldnโt care less.
โAre you out of your mind?โ Ellis frowned at her ex-husband. โWhy would I go see Victoria with you? Whether you cheated with her or not, I honestly donโt care.โ
That heart-wrenching period was behind her. She couldnโt care less about what her scumbag ex was doing or who he was cheating with now. Besides, she had better things to do than waste her time listening to Victoria make excuses for him. Everything about their behavior screamed that her ex had been unfaithful during their marriage, and Victoria had been all too eager to take her place. They were just a shameless pair of homewreckers.
โDidnโt you ever worry that Victoria might take your place as Mrs. Hudson?โ Easton still remembered the day Ellis slapped Victoria across the face and stormed out of his office in a rage. Thinking back on that moment, his emotions settled. She must have cared. She must have had real feelings for him onceโฆ right?
Hearing her ex-husbandโs question, Ellis felt her face darken. She seriously doubtedโฆ No, scratch that, she had every reason to believe! In her eyes, did he really think she was some shallow, status-obsessed woman? She wanted to be his girlfriend, his wife, and eventually the mother of his children. Was he seriously thinking it was all just for his money? That without his wealth, she wouldnโt have cared at all?
That was why he kept bringing up material things. He had even asked her once if she had ever really loved him. And now, when he mentioned the title of โMrs. Hudson,โ he hadnโt been talking about love or loyalty; he meant the status and perks that came with it. Did he seriously think what she had worried about was someone taking that away from her, rather than someone stealing him away from her?
Facing her ex-husband, who was still waiting for an answer, Ellis looked away. She couldnโt be bothered to respond.

She couldnโt stand being reminded of it over and over again, especially when the person reminding her was her ex-husband! It felt like reliving the humiliation all over again.
After a brief silence, when no answer came, Easton pressed, โEllis, say something.โ
โSay what? Whatever you want to hear?โ Ellis sneered, her red lips curling in mockery. โThink whatever you want. I couldnโt care less.โ
Her ex-husband had never valued her love; in fact, heโd humiliated her more than once. Why should she bother answering him now? Digging up her painful past just to satisfy his curiosity? There was nothing in it for her.
โForget it.โ Seeing her resistance, Easton didnโt push further. The answer didnโt really matter. What mattered more was that, in the haze of it all, Easton sensed there was something else, something hidden behind her firm decision to divorce him. Her reason for insisting on the divorce wasnโt just because he hadnโt saved her in time.
โWas one of the reasons you wanted a divorce because you thought I was cheating with Victoria?โ he asked, unconsciously stepping closer, studying her face intently.
โโฆโ Ellis wasnโt sure whether to curse him out or slap him first. During the kidnapping, when her faint hope had slowly twisted into suffocating despair, it had consumed her. She had worked so hard to piece her shattered heart back together, yet this lousy ex just had to keep tearing open her wounds.
โDonโt tell me you donโt know,โ she snapped, jabbing her finger hard against Eastonโs chest. โYou know exactly what you did.โ
โI didnโt cheat with Victoria! Youโve got it all wrong!โ Easton insisted once again. Even back before the divorce, when her ex had sworn the same thing, Ellis never believed him. She had still foolishly held onto some hope, thinking that maybe, just maybe, one day she could make him fall in love with her. Love isnโt just about words. Sometimes, words are the most deceptive thing of all. If you really want to understand someone, donโt just listen to what they say, watch what they do.
Hearing him insist on his innocence now only made her feel sick to her stomach. Irritated, she snapped, โDonโt bother repeating yourself! Open the door, Iโm getting out!โ

Knowing his explanation wouldnโt clear things up, even though he hated being misunderstood, at least he had figured out the second core reason why she refused to get back together with him.
Easton opened the door. The moment the door unlocked, Ellis wasted no time; she jumped out of the car immediately. Seeing this, Easton followed suit. Catching a glimpse of her annoying ex-husband out of the corner of her eye, Ellis didnโt even look back and strode quickly toward the parking lot. But, just like he was deliberately trying to get under her skin, Easton called out from behind, โEllis, gather enough evidence to prove to you that I never cheated.โ
Ellis resisted the urge to roll her eyes. That scumbag. His so-called โevidenceโ was probably fake! If she believed him, then all the pain sheโd endured before would have been for nothing.
Easton stood watching her retreating figure until she disappeared from view before finally shifting his gaze away. The frustration that had been building up for days seemed to ease a little today, leaving Easton feeling slightly better. He couldnโt help but curl his lips into a faint smile.
Back home, Ellis stormed inside and flung her bag onto the couch as if venting her anger.
