Iโ€™m the Obsession of My Cold-Hearted Ex

Chapter 361: Cake, Chaos, and a Job Offer

Ellis had no intention of keeping quiet. Loud and clear, she said, โ€œYeah, I lost my appetite thanks to my disgusting, annoying ex-husband!โ€

Easton loved humiliating people, didnโ€™t he? Well, he kept bothering her, and she hadnโ€™t humiliated him directlyโ€”just indirectly. That was restraint. Honestly, she was doing him a favor by not hitting him. And today? She hadnโ€™t even laid a finger on him.

Maya instinctively turned toward the doorbell camera to check if Easton was still out there. After watching for a moment and seeing no sign of him, she said, a bit stunned, โ€œYou knowโ€ฆ seeing your ex picking up the birthday gift he brought youโ€”it was kinda surreal.โ€

For Easton to bend down and pick something up, it must have been scattered all over the floor. And how did it get scattered? Pretty obvious.

Back on the couch, Ellis leaned back lazily and replied, โ€œWhatโ€™s surreal about it? If he hadnโ€™t picked it up, I wouldโ€™ve cursed him out for littering. Donโ€™t block my front door like itโ€™s a trash dump.โ€

Maya considered that. โ€œHeโ€™s the president of Hudson Group. And the Hudson familyโ€™sโ€ฆโ€

โ€œI donโ€™t want to hear it,โ€ Ellis cut her off. โ€œBack when I left the Hudson house to pack my stuff, he had the butler check my suitcase like I was stealing something. I was a mess.โ€

She knew her current behavior wasnโ€™t saintly. But Easton hadnโ€™t acted like a human being back thenโ€”why should she now?

โ€œIโ€™m not defending him,โ€ Maya clarified. โ€œItโ€™s justโ€ฆ seeing it in person really hit me. Like if someone else saw that scene, theyโ€™d probably feel the same way.โ€

โ€œHe brought it on himself,โ€ Ellis replied without missing a beat.

โ€œTrue,โ€ Maya nodded.

If Easton had shown even the slightest bit of decency when Ellis filed for divorceโ€”given her a fair share of the assets, acknowledged what he did wrongโ€”things mightโ€™ve turned out differently. But this Ellis, the one standing tall, sharp-tongued and unbothered? Maya preferred her. It meant she didnโ€™t need to worry about Easton wearing her down and tricking her into going back.

Then Ellisโ€™s eyes drifted to the cake box still sitting on the table. The very sight of it made her stomach churn.

โ€œThat cakeโ€™s from Easton. I didnโ€™t toss it at him earlier because I didnโ€™t want to dirty the hallway and have to clean it myself. But I donโ€™t feel like taking it downstairs either. You want it?โ€

โ€œYou almost threw the cake at him?โ€ Maya blinked in surprise.

โ€œYeah. What about it?โ€ Ellis raised a brow.

โ€œI meanโ€ฆ thatโ€™s kindaโ€ฆโ€ Maya pictured it and nearly said iconic.

That cake, with all its whipped cream, wouldโ€™ve made a mess. If Easton had taken it to the face, itโ€™d be a whole thing. And if he thought it was humiliating, who knows how heโ€™d react?

โ€œA bit much,โ€ Maya finally said. โ€œWhat if he got mad?โ€

โ€œAnd I didnโ€™t get mad?โ€ Ellis snapped. โ€œWhy should he get to be mad when heโ€™s the one causing all the problems? He doesnโ€™t get to play the victim here. Not with me.โ€

โ€œFair. Good thing you didnโ€™t throw it.โ€

โ€œYour ex has this vibe. Like heโ€™s okay with you treating him however you want.โ€ Maya said, half-laughing.

โ€œIโ€™m not treating him any kind of way,โ€ Ellis corrected quickly.

If anything, he was the one whoโ€™d spent years torturing her. Two years as his secret mistress, summoned and dismissed like some tool for his needs. Then three years as his wife. Five years total. Five years of going from hopeful to hollow. The divorce nearly broke her. And even now, she was still picking up the pieces. If she hadnโ€™t toughened up, she wouldโ€™ve snapped by now.

โ€œYeah, youโ€™re right. Tossing a few gifts around doesnโ€™t count as torture,โ€ Maya said, dropping onto the couch beside her. โ€œYour ex plays dirty. Doesnโ€™t even need to show up in personโ€”just a word from him, and someone else comes to ruin your life.โ€

Maya didnโ€™t mean to dig up old scars, but her words brought them back anyway. Ellis didnโ€™t feel pain so much as a deep, grinding fury. She still couldnโ€™t understand Easton. She couldnโ€™t understand what the hell went on in his head. He didnโ€™t love her, cheated on her while they were married, made her life a living hellโ€”and now he had the audacity to act like none of it happened. Like they could just go back.

Heโ€™s the poster child for shamelessness.

โ€œHeโ€”โ€ Ellis started, but her phone rang, cutting her off. She checked the numberโ€”unfamiliar. But she was still job hunting, so every unknown call had to be taken seriously.

โ€œHello!โ€

โ€œHi, is this Ms. Harper?โ€ the caller asked politely.

โ€œThis is Avery from the Fox Group. Iโ€™m not sure if you remember interviewing with us?โ€

โ€œI do!โ€

โ€œGreat. Ms. Harper, congratulations! You passed the final round. Are you available to chat now? Iโ€™d like to go over your compensation package.โ€
