Iโm the Obsession of My Cold-Hearted Ex
Chapter 361: Cake, Chaos, and a Job Offer
Ellis had no intention of keeping quiet. Loud and clear, she said, โYeah, I lost my appetite thanks to my disgusting, annoying ex-husband!โ
Easton loved humiliating people, didnโt he? Well, he kept bothering her, and she hadnโt humiliated him directlyโjust indirectly. That was restraint. Honestly, she was doing him a favor by not hitting him. And today? She hadnโt even laid a finger on him.
Maya instinctively turned toward the doorbell camera to check if Easton was still out there. After watching for a moment and seeing no sign of him, she said, a bit stunned, โYou knowโฆ seeing your ex picking up the birthday gift he brought youโit was kinda surreal.โ
For Easton to bend down and pick something up, it must have been scattered all over the floor. And how did it get scattered? Pretty obvious.
Back on the couch, Ellis leaned back lazily and replied, โWhatโs surreal about it? If he hadnโt picked it up, I wouldโve cursed him out for littering. Donโt block my front door like itโs a trash dump.โ
Maya considered that. โHeโs the president of Hudson Group. And the Hudson familyโsโฆโ
โI donโt want to hear it,โ Ellis cut her off. โBack when I left the Hudson house to pack my stuff, he had the butler check my suitcase like I was stealing something. I was a mess.โ
She knew her current behavior wasnโt saintly. But Easton hadnโt acted like a human being back thenโwhy should she now?
โIโm not defending him,โ Maya clarified. โItโs justโฆ seeing it in person really hit me. Like if someone else saw that scene, theyโd probably feel the same way.โ
โHe brought it on himself,โ Ellis replied without missing a beat.
โTrue,โ Maya nodded.
If Easton had shown even the slightest bit of decency when Ellis filed for divorceโgiven her a fair share of the assets, acknowledged what he did wrongโthings mightโve turned out differently. But this Ellis, the one standing tall, sharp-tongued and unbothered? Maya preferred her. It meant she didnโt need to worry about Easton wearing her down and tricking her into going back.
Then Ellisโs eyes drifted to the cake box still sitting on the table. The very sight of it made her stomach churn.
โThat cakeโs from Easton. I didnโt toss it at him earlier because I didnโt want to dirty the hallway and have to clean it myself. But I donโt feel like taking it downstairs either. You want it?โ
โYou almost threw the cake at him?โ Maya blinked in surprise.
โYeah. What about it?โ Ellis raised a brow.
โI meanโฆ thatโs kindaโฆโ Maya pictured it and nearly said iconic.
That cake, with all its whipped cream, wouldโve made a mess. If Easton had taken it to the face, itโd be a whole thing. And if he thought it was humiliating, who knows how heโd react?
โA bit much,โ Maya finally said. โWhat if he got mad?โ
โAnd I didnโt get mad?โ Ellis snapped. โWhy should he get to be mad when heโs the one causing all the problems? He doesnโt get to play the victim here. Not with me.โ
โFair. Good thing you didnโt throw it.โ
โYour ex has this vibe. Like heโs okay with you treating him however you want.โ Maya said, half-laughing.
โIโm not treating him any kind of way,โ Ellis corrected quickly.
If anything, he was the one whoโd spent years torturing her. Two years as his secret mistress, summoned and dismissed like some tool for his needs. Then three years as his wife. Five years total. Five years of going from hopeful to hollow. The divorce nearly broke her. And even now, she was still picking up the pieces. If she hadnโt toughened up, she wouldโve snapped by now.
โYeah, youโre right. Tossing a few gifts around doesnโt count as torture,โ Maya said, dropping onto the couch beside her. โYour ex plays dirty. Doesnโt even need to show up in personโjust a word from him, and someone else comes to ruin your life.โ
Maya didnโt mean to dig up old scars, but her words brought them back anyway. Ellis didnโt feel pain so much as a deep, grinding fury. She still couldnโt understand Easton. She couldnโt understand what the hell went on in his head. He didnโt love her, cheated on her while they were married, made her life a living hellโand now he had the audacity to act like none of it happened. Like they could just go back.
Heโs the poster child for shamelessness.
โHeโโ Ellis started, but her phone rang, cutting her off. She checked the numberโunfamiliar. But she was still job hunting, so every unknown call had to be taken seriously.
โHello!โ
โHi, is this Ms. Harper?โ the caller asked politely.
โThis is Avery from the Fox Group. Iโm not sure if you remember interviewing with us?โ
โI do!โ
โGreat. Ms. Harper, congratulations! You passed the final round. Are you available to chat now? Iโd like to go over your compensation package.โ
