Chapter 71: Divorce Drama on Deck

“Ellis!” Easton frowned in displeasure. “Cut the sob story act!”

She said she wanted a divorce, and he was sick of hearing it. Playing the same game repeatedly only made it more annoying.

“Being tied to someone you don’t love is painful for both of us,” Easton said. Ellis stood up, her gaze steady and firm on Sophia. “Mom, can you agree to our divorce?”

To successfully obtain a divorce, the most crucial people to convince were Sophia and Carly; Easton was the least of her concerns. She didn’t bother wasting words on him or engaging in pointless arguments.

Easton scoffed. “Painful? You sure know how to play the victim.”

Ellis chose to ignore Easton, waiting for Sophia’s response.

This wasn’t the first time Sophia had heard Ellis speak with such determination. Carly’s revelations from the previous night, combined with Easton’s requests, darkened her expression. “Easton, you little rascal, be honest, did you cheat?”

Otherwise, why was Ellis so adamant about the divorce? It had to be because her son had crossed Ellis’s boundaries! Infidelity typically topped the list of deal-breakers in a marriage.

“Me, cheat? More like she did!” Easton hadn’t forgotten Ellis’s trip to Petal Estates, where she stayed with a young man named Casey. Morty had snapped photos of them alone together. “I didn’t even make a fuss about it! And here you are, suspecting me of cheating.”

How shameless could someone get? Easton cheats, and he has the nerve to accuse her of doing the same?

Sophia’s voice rose slightly. “You and Vic…”

She stopped mid-sentence, realizing something, and held back the rest.

Even catching only half of it, Ellis could tell Sophia was about to say Victoria. Did Sophia know about Easton’s affair with Victoria? It wouldn’t be surprising. Easton brazenly went everywhere with Victoria; they were even kidnapped together. Easton only paid the ransom for Victoria, and it was all over the news. Sophia must have heard about it.

“What do you mean?” Easton glanced sideways at his mother, who didn’t continue. “Mom, if you called me here just to watch Ellis’s tearjerker performance, you’re wasting my time.”

“Ellis, you say,” Sophia passed the decision to Ellis.

“Me?” Ellis almost laughed.

What could she say? She didn’t pursue Easton’s cheating or who it was with. All she needed was for Easton not to trap her with a prenup and to accompany her to the Civil Affairs Department to obtain the divorce certificate. She just wanted a smooth return to single life without complications.

“I have nothing to say. Or, Mom, why don’t you witness it? Ask Easton to go with me to the Civil Affairs Department on Monday to finalize our divorce?” What she aimed for was the divorce; Easton’s quick cooperation was all she cared about; nothing else mattered to her.

Easton snorted softly. “Fine, since you’re so eager to dissolve our marriage, I’ll see you at the Civil Affairs Department on Monday.”

He had other plans for Monday, like pressuring Lois to fire Ellis, teaching her a lesson. Ellis frequently used divorce threats, repeatedly testing his patience, which was at its limit. He had no time to continue watching her drama; he might as well change his mind and meet her at the Civil Affairs Department, putting an end to her divorce threats once and for all.

Chapter 71: Divorce Drama on Deck

That’s exactly what Ellis was waiting for. “Monday at nine in the morning, don’t be late!”

Sophia’s temples throbbed. “Are you treating divorce like a child’s play?” Today was not meant to set a time for their divorce but to help them reconcile.

“It’s not child’s play. I’ve thought this through,” Ellis hated that today was a rest day; otherwise, she could have gone straight to the Civil Affairs Department with Easton. “Mom, I hope you can understand me.”

The sooner the divorce, the better, to avoid any more complications. Easton might use the prenup to make things difficult for her.

Easton glanced at Sophia, slightly annoyed. “Mom, I’m trying to be fair.”

“You two!” Sophia pointed at her son and Ellis. “After you’re divorced, don’t call me Mom!”

Knowing well that Sophia was speaking in anger, Ellis quietly responded in her mind: If Easton and I are no longer married, it wouldn’t be appropriate to call you Mom anymore; I should address you as Madam Sophia.

Let everything return to square one. She would be the nominal Ellis in Carly’s presence, not a real member of the Hudson family, with no real ties to the Hudson family. When encountering the Hudson family, she would simply interact with them with basic courtesy.

Easton didn’t respond and got up to leave.

In an instant, only Ellis and Sophia remained in the vast living room.

Sophia watched her son leave, sighing deeply. Why make life difficult when it could be simple!

Once Easton was gone, Ellis also wanted to leave. But she couldn’t be as rude as Easton; she turned her eyes a few times. “Madam Sophia, I…”
