Chapter 81: The Final Countdown
Ellis half-raised his wrist, eyeing the time on his watch. "If you donโt beg for mercy within three minutes, the opportunity expires."
If it werenโt for basic self-control, Ellis would have jumped up and hit him. "I already said I want a divorce, and you agreed to process it today. I havenโt done anything wrong, so why should I beg for mercy?"
"The fuss you've made about getting a divorce has caused me a lot of unnecessary trouble," Easton retorted.
As his words fell, clouds of frustration formed over her head. Today, she truly witnessed what shamelessness meant! People need their faces; trees need their bark, but he was utterly shameless. He didnโt mention the pain his infidelity during their marriage had caused her, instead biting back, accusing her of troubling him.
Grinding her teeth, Ellis said, โLet me make it clear: Iโm not making a scene about the divorce; I am determined to divorce you! Please stop saying Iโm making a fuss and respect my wishes!โ
โBeing sharp-tongued and stubborn donโt make you likable, and youโve got both,โ Easton noted, yet despite being visibly upset, Ellis was as cute as a button. He couldnโt help but lift his hand to gently caress her pale, delicate cheek, just inches away. โThis drama should about end. Iโm giving you a way out.โ
Ellis couldnโt fathom his twisted logic; sheโd heard him talk of giving her a way out more than once. Why does he think I need a way out? Did I ever look that desperate, like some dog wagging its tail, begging for mercy? His offerโdid I even need it? Just a single command from him, and Iโm supposed to rush to his side, ready to perform any act he dictates, just to show him what he wants to see?
His large hand cupping her face, spreading a warmth that wasnโt hers, she frowned and swatted his hand away. โAre you sick? Just talk; why are you touching my face!โ
Not wanting to conflict with him didnโt mean Ellis would suffer his actions in silence.
โDo I touch you that little? Touching you wonโt make you lose a piece of flesh.โ Eastonโs right hand remained, now casually playing with her shiny black hair. Given their past, his actions couldnโt exactly be called harassment, merely blunt honesty. Yet, Ellis was still annoyed. And his playing with her hair, like a child with a beloved toyโฆ
This time, she grabbed his wrist, planning to scratch him hard before throwing it off. Unexpectedly, he wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her close with a little force. Such maneuvering prevented her from scratching him, forcing her to lift her head.
โThe three minutes are almost up. Take advantage of my good mood and beg for mercy.โ Easton realized his own standards had lowered unconsciously; he didnโt care if Ellis called him a psycho; he just wanted her to step down from her stance, back to before she made a fuss about the divorce. Her waist, no longer held by one hand, was now entwined by both like vinesโa touch Ellis greatly disliked. Thinking about all the intimate things he had done with Victoria, even though she was only touching him through clothes, made waves of nausea surge in her stomach.
Holding back her urge to yell, she declared, โI wonโt beg for mercy! You psycho, who do you think you are? Someone universally loved? Am I supposed to cling to you for life? I came to the Civil Affairs Department today to divorce you, not to watch you loftily disgust me!โ
While cursing, she didnโt forget to struggle, trying hard to leave his embrace. But he was much stronger, or perhaps it was her harsh words; his face quickly turned icy, his chilling aura enough to keep her firmly in place.
โCall me psycho one more time, see what happens?โ He really didnโt like being called a psycho, especially seeing how angrily she cursed. Easton held her tighter, then pinched her chin. โI didnโt mind before, but I wonโt indulge you now.โ
Chapter 81: The Final Countdown โ Finished
Her jaw wasnโt pained, but his actions were demeaning. Ellisโs rebellious spirit quickly flared, deciding to confront him head-on. โI will curse! You psycho! You psycho! You psychoโฆโ
Countless curses later, Easton, unable to endure it any longer, covered her mouth. โStop cursing! If you wonโt mind your manners, Iโll make sure you remember to!โ
Unable to open her mouth to curse, Ellis thought to step on his foot to vent her anger. Unfortunately, her foot circled around, unable to find his, and she had to give up.
Ellis wanted to do something, and Easton could tell. He let go of her mouth. โReset the timer, starting now.โ
Ellis felt she had been speechless more often since filing for divorce, rivaling the total of her previous years. โDude, do you not understand my words!โ He was too presumptuous, thinking others would follow his wishes, completely disregarding whether they wanted to or not. She was really about to be driven mad by him.
