Chapter 311
At first, Richard didn't want to reveal who injured him. However, he didn't want to hide anything from Tiffany, so he told her: "Felix Quaid."
That name sounded familiar. Only then did Tiffany remember the man she'd seen twice, the one always accompanied by a black tabby cat. So Felix Quaid was one of the factions that wanted to kill her that night. If that was the case, why lure her to the castle and let her see with her own eyes that Sandra Olson wasn't dead? This guy was truly unfathomable, Tiffany thought. After a moment, she asked, "Were you injured because you fought with him?"
Richard hesitated briefly before answering, "You could say that." The truth was he'd been distracted by worry. When he received news that Felix Quaid was going to act against Tiffany himself, two other factions also sprang into action. Garry York intercepted one, while the other was assigned to Yvonne Shaw, who had never failed a mission. Felix's attackers were all elites, the most troublesome to deal with. Therefore, Richard decided to handle them himself, bringing John Ross with him. However, he unwittingly fell into Felix's trap.
During their battle, Felix produced an unconscious woman who strongly resembled Tiffany. Worried Tiffany was hurt, Richard rushed to save her, only to find it was a mannequin coated in poison. He was poisoned by touching it, allowing Felix to inflict serious injuries. Otherwise, Felix Quaid would never have been his match. He didn't want Tiffany to worry, so he sat on the sofa, pretending nothing had happened. To his surprise, he was met with Tiffany's accusations and uncaring attitude.
After that, he was unconscious for a day and a night. When he awoke, he saw Yvonne Shaw attempting to sleep with him while he was still unconscious. He also discovered she had been feigning obedience and hadn't carried out his orders at all. After learning about Ged Moody's death that night, Richard finally understood why Tiffany was blaming him. She was angry he'd left her in the lurch and used her for the slim chance of obtaining the key to the treasure. Richard wanted to explain, but he was also angry at her for not trusting him.
Chapter 311
Recalling these events, Richard felt helpless. Tiffany finally understood and felt more guilty than ever. "I'm sorry," she said.
Richard didn't say anything. Tiffany tugged at his sleeve and whimpered, "Sir, I'm sorry."
He snorted softly. "It's useless to call me 'Sir.'"
Tiffany blushed. As Richard mused with delight at the possibility of his wish coming true, she spoke again, bashfully. "Daddy, I was wrong."
She called me Daddy? Richard was speechless.
The next second, he vomited blood—literally. He spewed a mouthful before collapsing.
Tiffany gasped. Was he so angered by her words that he'd collapsed? Had she gone too far with her joke? "Hey, what's wrong with you? Don't frighten me!" she cried, leaping off the bed to check the unconscious man.
After checking his pulse, she realized his breathing was chaotic and a strange poison circulated in his body. The poison was strong, damaging his internal organs. Anyone else would have collapsed long ago. Richard had hung on without showing any discomfort. If he hadn't suddenly keeled over, she wouldn't have noticed anything odd.
Tiffany quickly put on her coat and yelled for help. "Somebody! Anybody! Come quickly!"
At that moment, Sidney Pauley was outside the farmhouse trying to stop Zoe Stevens from entering. They'd been in a stalemate. Zoe was furious. "What right do you have to stop me?" she demanded. She'd rushed to the farmhouse after Tiffany's call. The moment she arrived, Pauley kept stopping her, saying things like, "Now is not the time."
Zoe was so angry she wanted to strangle him. Sidney was still acting as wingman when his sharp hearing caught a muffled voice from the bedroom. With growing foreboding, he rushed in.
He saw blood on the ground and Tiffany cradling the unconscious Richard. He yelled urgently, "Quick! Lend me a hand." Sidney knew at once that Richard had suffered a relapse. Remnant poison remained, his internal injuries were serious, and he hadn't rested. The moment he learned Tiffany was going to the mountain village, he rushed there as well.
Chapter [Number]
He even splashed out a few hundred million dollars under the pretense of funding construction projects, making up a legitimate excuse about inspecting project sites. What a load of bullshit. The real reason was to look for his "wife."
Sidney felt exasperated, but now wasn't the time for lectures. He helped Richard up, with Tiffany's support, and they returned to the farmhouse next door. Zoe stayed behind to clean up the bloodstains.
Once Richard was settled, Sidney set up intravenous drips and began medical treatment. Tiffany silently watched his practiced ease. She realized they'd even brought surgical equipment and medical devices, in addition to medicine.
Now, Tiffany was finally convinced Richard had dashed here despite his serious injuries. He did all this because of her… The realization filled her with even more guilt. She should have trusted him. There were many chances to clear…
