Chapter 315

It was late at night, and the rain was falling heavily. Was Melody out of her mind? Why would she go up the mountain at this time?

Kenneth couldn't believe it. However, after thinking it over, he decided it was better to be safe than sorry. He had accompanied Melody, so he felt responsible for her safety. "Let's go up the mountain!"

In the bamboo forest, Melody had lost consciousness. The heavy rain beat against her face, but she remained motionless. Rustling footsteps could be heard in the leaves.

On the mountaintop, a villager in a raincoat muttered as he walked, "It's raining so heavily. My roof is going to leak again. Sigh"

As the villager passed through the bamboo forest, he slipped and fell. His flashlight rolled away, and as he ran after it, he saw a ten-foot pit. Inside, an unconscious girl lay, her fate unknown.

The villager was shocked. He immediately recognized the city girl who had arrived in their village the day before. He took off his raincoat and, with considerable effort, pulled Melody from the pit.

Upon closer inspection, he saw snakebites all over her body. Her lips were blackish, her face pale, and the bite marks were swelling, indicating serious poisoning.

Perhaps it was fate, or perhaps she had incredible luck, but this villager was a barefoot doctor in Melvor Mountain Village. He hadn't attended the feast because he had been helping a woman give birth in a neighboring village that afternoon. Unexpectedly, he discovered Melody on his way back.

Kenneth and his group encountered the barefoot doctor carrying Melody down the mountain. Initially, Kenneth was furious, believing the villager had harmed Melody.

The villager quickly explained, "This girl fell into a wild boar pit and was bitten by snakes. I've gathered some medicinal herbs. We must hurry back to treat her; otherwise, she'll die!"

"Let's go!" The group hurried down the mountain.

Melody remained unconscious until the following afternoon. The memory of falling into the pit and being bitten deeply traumatized her. Before fully regaining consciousness, she began screaming incessantly. "Argh! Help, help! Don't come near me! Don't come near me!"

Hearing the commotion, Kenneth rushed in, gently holding her hand to comfort her. "It's alright, it's alright. Don't be afraid. I'm here."

Melody slowly opened her eyes, immediately bursting into tears and throwing herself into his arms. "Kenny, I was so scared! I thought I would never see you again…"

"Don't be silly," Kenneth hugged her gently.

The village doctor had said that it was fortunate she was discovered when she was. Another ten minutes, and he wouldn't have been able to save her. It was truly her great fortune.

After calming her, Kenneth asked, "Melody, why did you run up the mountain last night?"

Melody had been waiting for this question. She cried harder. "It was Tiffany! Tiffany called me to the mountain last night. I didn't think much of it and followed her. I didn't expect her to push me into the pit! She wanted to kill me! She almost killed me! Sob, sob, sob… What did I do wrong? Why did she do this to me…"

Melody cried uncontrollably, clearly traumatized by the night's events. Who wouldn't be afraid after almost losing their life?

Kenneth's face darkened. He recalled seeing Tiffany in the front yard last night, standing under the roof to catch the raindrops, with mud on her shoes—proof she had been on the mountain.

"This is simply…" Kenneth was bitterly disappointed. Melody struggled out of bed, sobbing as she walked. "She almost killed me. I'm going to demand justice!"

Before Kenneth could stop her, she limped towards the village chief's farmhouse. Tiffany's farmhouse was only about 100 feet from Melody's lodging, but Melody's legs were still swollen from the venom. Kenneth had no choice but to help her.

At the village chief's farmhouse, Zoe had slept well and was full of energy. She reported to Tiffany what she had learned.

"Tiffany, I heard Melody went up the mountain last night and was bitten by venomous snakes! Luckily, she was rescued."

Tiffany fell silent. She never expected anyone to be passing by at that hour, much less that person finding the right herbs to save Melody. This woman was truly fortunate.

Tiffany combed her hair and tied it into a ponytail. Zoe complimented her, "Tiffany, you're really the most beautiful person I've ever seen!"

Tiffany laughed. Before she could respond, a commotion erupted in the front yard. Someone was yelling and kicking something.

"Tiffany Kelley, get out here!" It was Kenneth's voice.

Zoe exploded with rage, cursing and grabbing a rolling pin. "Which bastard is making so much noise? Get lost before I knock out your front teeth!" Zoe didn't care about scolding or bullying, but she wouldn't allow anyone to treat Tiffany that way.

Kenneth felt a headache coming on seeing Zoe's aggression. He wouldn't hit a woman, so he said, "Move aside. This has nothing to do with you!"

"Hmph! I'm itching to bash your fucking head!" Zoe raised the rolling pin, but Tiffany grabbed her collar. "Be good and wait by the side."

Zoe obeyed but remained vigilant. Tiffany smiled languidly at the group. "What can I do for you?"

Melody sobbed. "Tiffany Kelley, we're classmates. I know you don't like me, but how could you harm me!"

"How did I harm you? Tell me." Tiffany rubbed her nose nonchalantly.

Her lack of shame enraged Melody, who clutched her chest, speechless.

Kenneth said, "Do you dare say you didn't lead Melody up the mountain last night? Didn't you cause her to fall and get bitten by venomous snakes?"

Tiffany understood. This woman was good at playing the blame game. She smiled brightly, looking directly at Melody. "Do you dare to repeat that?"
