Chapter 363
Kenneth looked up at her. Obvious fatigue, and scrutiny, etched his handsome face. "Why did you and Tiffany fall off the deck together?"
This cruise ship hosted numerous banquets and parties. For the safety of guests, a safety board was installed at the deck's edge. Given this, how could they both have fallen?
Melody lowered her head and said aggrievedly, "Today, my presence upset Tiffany. When I went to the deck to find her, she even hit me…"
"And then?" Kenneth asked.
Melody replied, "I ducked away. She followed. I'd retreated to the deck's edge. She wouldn't stop. She pushed me again. I was trying to grab something when I fell, accidentally pulling her down with me."
"Is that so?" Kenneth didn't believe her excuse.
Melody nodded immediately. "I swear everything I said is true!"
She looked dejected and added, "And Mom saw it. Tiffany wanted to push me off the ship. You can verify this anytime." She spoke frankly and directly.
Thalia also witnessed the event. As a mother, it was impossible for Thalia to harm Tiffany; therefore, her account should be credible.
Kenneth rubbed his brow and remained silent.
Seeing this, Melody smiled bitterly. "Kenneth, don't you believe me?"
"No, I'm tired. Stay with Mr. Kelley. I'll go back first." After being in the cold river all night, Kenneth's head was spinning. He left.
The remaining people gradually dispersed.
Charlie sat on the deck in a daze, supporting his head, his eyes vacant.
Melody approached and gently stroked his back to comfort him. "Dad, you have to pull yourself together. Mom is still in the hospital…"
Charlie finally reacted at the mention of his wife. He stood up, dazed, and entered the car with his driver's assistance.
Melody followed, and everyone dispersed. All the cruise ship staff changed clothes and left work after finishing their duties.
The waiter, Wayne, didn't return to the staff locker room after being dismissed by the manager. Instead, he rushed to his cabin. He needed to retrieve his phone.
Along the way, Wayne worriedly muttered, "Please don't let the guests find it. Please don't let anyone else find it!"
He ran over and saw his phone, dropped earlier, still in the corner.
"That's great!" Wayne sighed in relief. Fortunately, this corner was secluded; no one had discovered it.
But then again, the cruise ship's guests were wealthy or influential. Even if they saw it, they likely wouldn't care about his inexpensive phone.
He carefully picked up the phone, wiped off the dust, and turned on the screen. However, seeing the time-stamped video, he was stunned. 'Why is a video recording?'
Wayne scratched his head. He must have been careless when he'd turned on the camera to secretly photograph a girl's back, accidentally recording the entire incident.
Filled with a mixture of joy and nervousness, Wayne saved the video and played it back.
The girl on the deck, in a red dress, looked stunning. Her every movement was breathtakingly beautiful—an almost fatal attraction.
Wayne's heart pounded, but thinking of tonight's accident, regret washed over him. 'Why did Miss Kelley fall into the river so unexpectedly? Alas…!'
The video continued, but another girl appeared. Wayne recognized her instantly. This girl in a beautiful gown was the banquet's protagonist, the found daughter of the Kelley family.
He watched further, his face changing from shock to disbelief.
'So… Miss Kelley was pushed off the deck by her sister!' Wayne trembled. 'What should I do?
Should I reveal this to Mr. Kelley?
But Mr. Kelley already lost a daughter. If I reveal this, would he appreciate my help?
What if he retaliates for my nosiness?'
Wayne was at a loss. He heard a colleague call, "Wayne, what are you doing? Aren't you going home?"
"Coming." He carefully put away his phone, suppressing his panic. He went home still in his work clothes.
After reflection, he decided he must tell Charlie, even at the risk of offending him.
With this resolve, Wayne immediately requested leave, planning to visit the Kelley family the next day.
Meanwhile, Kenneth returned to his manor, dizzy and heavy-footed. He asked a servant for a thermometer; he had a high fever from the cold river water.
The servant said, "Mr. Harper, the family doctor is at Mr. Romeo Harper's. I'll call him."
"No need. I'll go myself." Kenneth went to his grandfather's quarters.
It was late, but Romeo was awake, surprising Kenneth. He called out upon entering, realizing Romeo wasn't in his bedroom.
'Grandpa must be in the bathroom…' Kenneth leaned against the wall, his hand accidentally touching a wall mural.
A click signaled a mechanism activating. A secret compartment appeared in the wall.
Stunned, he investigated.
Inside was a dark blue box with strange, exquisite patterns—clearly no ordinary item.
Kenneth reached for it when a furious voice stopped him. "Stop it!"
Romeo rushed over with his walking stick, his face filled with unprecedented nervousness.
Trembling, he glared at Kenneth. "Who told you to touch it?"
"Grandpa…" Kenneth had never seen his grandfather so angry. Normally, Romeo only reprimanded him, but now, it felt like he wanted to strike him.
Romeo quickly closed the compartment. His aura was shocking and terrifying. "Pretend you never saw it. Never mention it!"
Kenneth asked, "Why?"
"There's no reason! You must remember my words. Otherwise, you'll bring disaster on our family!" Romeo warned.
'Is it that serious?' Kenneth frowned. Seeing Romeo's tense face, he nodded. "Got it."
Romeo's expression softened slightly. "Alright, you can leave."
"Grandpa, rest early." Kenneth turned and left.
Back in the front hall, he found the family doctor had returned. He prescribed medicine, and Kenneth took it and went to his room.
Kenneth remained troubled by the mysterious blue box. 'If Grandpa says it would bring trouble to the Harper family, why does he keep it? Unless that box… is very important!'
Kenneth took his medicine but couldn't sleep. He sketched the box and gave it to a trusted subordinate. "Find out what this is."
