Chapter 367

John had become increasingly comfortable addressing Tiffany as Mrs. Hampton. A smug grin spread across his face. Tiffany glanced at him, half-annoyed and half-amused. โ€œDid you win the lottery recently?โ€

โ€œNo, but Iโ€™m even happier than if I had,โ€ John chuckled, his voice full of pride and glee. He could already picture the grand wedding that wasn't far off.

โ€œOh, right.โ€ Tiffany suddenly remembered something. โ€œWhy couldnโ€™t I reach you when you went on a business trip a few days ago? Where were you?โ€ This question had been nagging at her for a while. She had intended to ask Richard about it upon his return, but Richard's devastatingly charming smile and a few words had her heart racing so much that she completely forgot.

John scratched his head and answered vaguely, โ€œOh, we didnโ€™t really go anywhereโ€ฆ just took over a small company. Yeah, thatโ€™s it.โ€ They had dismantled Felixโ€™s organization, which could loosely be considered โ€œacquiring a small companyโ€ in business terms. He nodded emphatically, looking quite the clever fellow, but his uncertain tone made Tiffany suspicious. โ€œAre you sure thatโ€™s all?โ€

Tiffany thought, If it was just business, it wouldn't be such a huge secret. Why wouldn't anyone tell me?

โ€œYep, thatโ€™s it. Just the people from the other company were a bit tricky, so weโ€ฆ uhโ€ฆ we caughtโ€ฆ I mean, we acquired them, and thenโ€ฆโ€ He couldnโ€™t continue. His face fell, and after stammering for a while, he muttered, โ€œMrs. Hampton, goodbye.โ€ Then he quickly got in the car, sped off, and disappeared.

Tiffany shook her head. Sheโ€™d have to save this question for Richard tonight. She walked ahead and entered the hospital. At that moment, a bus pulled up. A crowd of passengers disembarked, including Wayne, closely followed by Karl. Things were becoming increasingly tense. The area was crowded; there was no good opportunity to make a move.

Karl made another phone call to report the situation. 999.

On the other end of the line, a frustrated Melody lowered her voice. โ€œIโ€™m on my way to the hospital now. You better stop him. Donโ€™t expect any more money from me if you fail.โ€

โ€œGot it.โ€ Karl hung up, sticking close to Wayne, looking for an opportunity to act. By now, Wayne had already approached the reception desk.

โ€œHi, Iโ€™m looking for someone,โ€ Wayne said. He gave Charlieโ€™s name, but after checking, the nurse shook her head. โ€œSorry, sir, we donโ€™t have anyone by that name admitted.โ€

Wayne explained, โ€œThe one admitted is his wife, but I donโ€™t know her nameโ€ฆโ€ Seeing the nurseโ€™s helpless expression, he scratched his head. โ€œThank you.โ€ Heโ€™d just have to go floor by floor.

He was about to start heading up the stairs when a middle-aged man behind him called out, โ€œLooking for Mr. Kelley? What a coincidence. Iโ€™m his relative here to visit him. Come with me.โ€

โ€œOh, sure!โ€ Feeling a bit lost, Wayne readily agreed. The middle-aged man casually put an arm around Wayneโ€™s shoulders and started leading him outside.

Wayne asked, โ€œIsnโ€™t he in this building?โ€

This man was Karl. He chuckled, โ€œYouโ€™re in the wrong place. This is Building 1; theyโ€™re over in Building 2, just over that way.โ€ But the further they walked, the more isolated the surroundings became. Finally, Wayne realized something was wrong. He thought, If this man really was Charlieโ€™s relative, why would he meet me here?

Alarmed, Wayne turned and ran. But a low, sinister laugh sounded, and Karl grabbed him tightly. A knife pressed into his stomach.

โ€œIf you dare call for help, Iโ€™ll kill you,โ€ Karl said.

โ€œDonโ€™t.โ€ Wayne regretted everything. He shouldnโ€™t have come.

Karl glanced around and saw that this was an under-construction area of the hospital, with no people around. He kicked Wayne to the ground, brandishing the knife. โ€œWhy did you come to the hospital?โ€

โ€œIโ€ฆโ€

โ€œTell the truth, or my knife might just slip,โ€ Karl said.

Wayne gritted his teeth and admitted, โ€œI have a video on my phone that I was going to give to Mr. Kelley. Let me go, and Iโ€™ll give it to you.โ€

Chapter 367

โ€œWhat kind of video? Show it to me,โ€ Karl said.

Wayne said, โ€œPromise to let me go, and Iโ€™ll hand it over.โ€

โ€œYou think youโ€™re in a position to negotiate with me? Do you even know who I am?โ€ Karlโ€™s eyes flashed with malice as he raised the knife.

Just then, a voice came from behind them, laughing mockingly. โ€œOh? And who might you be?โ€

Both men turned around. Standing there, bathed in sunlight, was a young woman in a light blue dress. Her skin was flawless, radiant, and soft; her gaze bright and captivatingโ€”a rare and unmatched beauty.

Wayne widened his eyes in disbelief. โ€œMiss Kelley? Youโ€ฆ youโ€™re not dead?โ€ He was both shocked and delighted.

Karl, on the other hand, had already risen, knife in hand. Wayne hurriedly shouted, โ€œRun, Miss Kelley. Run!โ€

Tiffany casually rubbed her ear, completely unperturbed. Karl wouldnโ€™t dare touch her.

Sure enough, Karl turned back to Wayne, his expression menacing. โ€œHand over the phone, and Iโ€™ll spare your life.โ€

โ€œWhatโ€ฆ what phone? I donโ€™t knowโ€ฆโ€ Wayne stammered, backing away.

โ€œPlaying dumb, huh? Iโ€™ll kill you.โ€ Karl reached out to grab him, waving the knife wildly. Wayne closed his eyes in despair. But the expected pain never came. Surprised, he opened his eyes and saw Karl being kicked to the ground. The girl in the blue dress gave him a lazy smile and extended her hand. โ€œGet up.โ€

Wayne stood there, dumbfounded. Only when Tiffany pulled him up did he finally come back to his senses.

โ€œMiss Kelley, youโ€ฆโ€ Wayne was overwhelmed with gratitude and admiration but didnโ€™t know what to say.

Tiffany gave a light smile. โ€œRoom 8 on the twelfth floor. Go on.โ€

Wayne immediately understood. It was Charlieโ€™s hospital room number. He nodded solemnly. โ€œMiss Kelley, Iโ€™ll make sure to clear your name.โ€

โ€œThank you.โ€ Tiffany nodded in return.

She had been following for a while and had overheard Wayneโ€™s conversation with Karl. Although she didnโ€™t know what kind of video he had, it seemed beneficial to her. As Wayne ran off, Tiffany glanced down at Karl. โ€œMy father doesnโ€™t have relatives like you. Get as far away as you can.โ€

Realizing his cover was blown, Karl threw down the knife and ran, calling Melody to report his failure. Hearing the news, Melody, still halfway to the hospital, felt faint and almost blacked out.

Wayne had found the hospital room door. Just as he was about to knock, the door opened, and Charlie stepped out. They looked each other in the eye. Wayne, overcome with emotion, said, โ€œMr. Kelley, I have something to tell you.โ€
