Chapter 397

Tiffany blinked. “For what?”

Richard's reply filled her with warmth and guilt. “Because you’re concerned about me.”

“That’s… that’s it?” Tiffany was stunned. He was so easily pleased. This suggested that, over the past twenty-five years, he'd been surrounded by endless schemes. In his cold family, few genuinely cared for him.

Who wasn't hypocritical when personal gain was involved? They were outwardly kind but inwardly selfish and cruel.

She remembered finding him severely injured in the suburban forest, collapsing before a stranger—her. What about before then? Perhaps he'd faced constant ambushes, unseen by her.

This thought distressed her. Burying her head in his chest, she mumbled, “It doesn’t matter. I’ll always be here.”

Unseen by her, he smiled. “That’s a deal.”

“Of course,” Tiffany nodded. Recalling the events at the Hampton family's house, she paused. “What did Hank say to you in the study?”

“Nothing,” he replied softly.

Tiffany was skeptical. Hank had mentioned the Azure Sea Royal Family's impending arrival next month. Her intuition linked this to Richard, yet he remained silent. She wanted to ask, but ultimately held back.

Forget it, she thought. She wouldn't pry, leaving him space. As long as it wasn't betrayal. Feeling peaceful, she closed her eyes.

The car arrived at a high-floor restaurant with a breathtaking view. It felt like they were floating above the city—perfect for a date. Tiffany sat by the window. After ordering, she asked in surprise, “Why did you choose this place?”

“You don’t like it?” He tilted his head.

“I love it,” Tiffany blinked. “I just didn’t know you could be so romantic.”

Richard coughed, looking slightly uncomfortable. He wouldn’t say he’d consulted several love manuals in his study; Sidney had teased him relentlessly about it.

The restaurant was mostly empty, Richard having booked it privately. After a pleasant dinner, Tiffany was about to leave when her expression changed dramatically. “Oh God! It’s that time!”

“What’s wrong?” Richard frowned, noticing her sudden pallor and blush. “Are you feeling unwell?”

Tiffany lowered her head. “It’s… my period.” She felt awkward, wishing she could disappear.

Richard was stunned. “What… your… period?”

Tiffany struggled to explain. What? Don't you know? Why are you so clueless? Just stop asking! She stamped her foot. “It’s… it’s what girls get every month!”

Richard finally understood. “Do you have what you need?”

Tiffany nodded awkwardly. She hadn’t prepared. Richard stood. “Wait for me.”

Watching him leave, Tiffany blushed crimson. Oh my god, the tycoon is buying this for me! What if he’s recognized? Will it make the headlines? She chuckled at the thought.

Richard found a nearby convenience store. He initially expected it to be simple, but the sheer variety overwhelmed him. Despite his decisiveness, he hesitated. After a moment, he grabbed two items and went to the counter.

The cashiers were captivated by his appearance, whispering excitedly. Their enthusiasm waned, however, upon seeing his purchase. One asked, “Sir, is this for your girlfriend?”

Richard replied coolly, “My wife.” His gentle yet firm tone was striking.

The stunned cashiers watched him leave, leaving a generous tip.

Back at the restaurant, Tiffany fidgeted. Richard returned, carrying a bag, affecting a nonchalant air. “I didn’t know which you preferred, so I chose a few.”

“…Thank you,” Tiffany whispered, hurrying to the restroom. Seeing the variety of items, she smiled. Richard could have easily delegated the task, but he'd gone himself, avoiding the awkwardness of another man handling it. This was unprecedented.

Tiffany returned, just as a familiar voice spoke behind her. “Wow, you’re quite resourceful, manipulating Richard into accepting a substitute like you.”

Tiffany turned to see Wendy Trujillo, a long-time rival. Her eyes hardened. “What do you mean?”
