Chapter 402
Lorenzo mocked Melody's hesitation. "Why? Are you worried about your little lover?"
Though different from Felix's subordinates, Melody's life was in his hands. She understood the consequences of resistance. News of her broken engagement with Kenneth had spread like wildfire, making her a laughingstock, even reaching Felix. Consequently, Lorenzo had a mission for her, under Felix's orders. "You know his temper. Do this well. Otherwise, you know what will happen, right? Or do I need to remind you?"
"I know," Melody replied, taking a deep breath. "So, what are you looking for?"
Lorenzo showed her a picture of a dark blue box, seemingly ordinary. Melody, clueless but sensing its importance, asked, "What is this?"
Lorenzo put the picture away, forcing a smile that was contradicted by his facial scar. "Don't ask what you shouldn't. It's not good for you to know too much."
Melody's face remained calm. "Understood. I'll do it as soon as possible."
She left the SUV and entered her Cayenne, roaring off into the distance. Lorenzo's partner, smitten, only realized he'd forgotten to ask for her phone number after the car disappeared. Their communication was encrypted, used only when necessary.
Lorenzo lit a cigarette and snorted. "Forget it. She doesn't like you." He knew her ambition outweighed her need for love.
Driving away, the night air cleared Melody's muddled thoughts. She frowned, gripping the wheel. She hadn't expected this mission from Felix. Confirming the box's location within the Harper family's possession, she wondered about Felix's plan: an overt seizure or a stealthy snatch? Regardless, she knew this was significant. And if Kenneth discovered her involvement, she could finally get her revenge.
She gritted her teeth, remembering the public engagement breakup. Her hesitation vanished. Kenneth, since you broke my heart, don't blame me for being heartless!
Melody drove back to her small manor. Her father, Charlie, had left her there to reflect, effectively abandoning her. Thalia hadn't even visited. She regretted using the Obedience Poison; she should have used the Death Poison, giving her control over Charlie and Thalia. This misstep had led to many mistakes, filling her with disappointment.
Fortunately, Charlie had been generous with money. He even provided her with a million-dollar Cayenne. Though being expelled from her family was contrary to her plan, she'd gained a lot, making it easier to pursue her goals. One day, she would reclaim her place in the Kelley family and take back what was owed to her.
Meanwhile, after bidding farewell to Tiffany, Jeremy hurried down a small path. The sound of crickets filled the moonlit night. Five meters away, six uniformed men knelt, giving him an Azure Sea Royal Family noble salute.
"Sir," they greeted respectfully.
Jeremy, watching them under the moonlight, said indifferently, "Get up." The leader then asked, "Sir, should we depart now?"
"Let's go," Jeremy replied.
As a prince, he'd had a lifelong mission: protecting the missing royal princess. Years of searching had been fruitless. He looked back at the road leading towards the Kelley family villa—the mission he must complete, the meaning of his existence.
Remembering Tiffany's saddened expression when he said goodbye, her empty heart, fueled his determination to find the princess. Once royal matters were settled, he could face Tiffany again, answering all her questions, even revealing his appearance.
His face returned to its usual calmness. "Let's go."
"Yes, Sir!" His men followed.
Coincidentally, an unlicensed Cayenne, driven by Melody, passed them. Jeremy frowned, noting that Melody, having been cast out, no longer posed a threat to Tiffany. He retracted his gaze.
A subordinate noticed his brief distress. "Sir, is there a problem with that car? Should I investigate?"
"No need," Jeremy replied. He believed Melody's failed schemes would not bear further fruit. He saw her loss as a tipping point, leading to unstoppable destruction. Melody, too, sensed his gaze and looked back, seeing only the quiet street, undisturbed except for the wind and the streetlights. She continued towards the Harper Family Manor.
Kenneth lay awake, tormented by recent events and the loss of someone beyond redemption. He even considered using his grandfather's treasure box, capable of viewing the past, wondering if it could also show the future, and whether he could see Tiffany again. His impatience and internal conflict intensified.
Then, a servant announced, "Sir, Miss Melody is looking for…"
