Chapter 443
Ten steps, a left turn. Five steps later, she turned right. It felt as if she had experienced this before, deep in her memory. As she walked, the feeling intensified, like an indescribable summons. Or was it an illusion?
Tiffany was perplexed. She searched her memories but couldn't recall ever walking through such a maze. "Where does this familiar feeling come from?" she wondered.
This feeling was similar to what she'd experienced last week when she first saw Morwen, the Azure Sea Royal Family's Saintess. She'd felt a vague familiarity then, too, but couldn't recall anything specific.
She stopped pondering and quickened her pace. If her judgment was correct, she would exit the maze after rounding the next corner.
Kenneth followed, his worry growing as the taut rope showed Tiffany rapidly disappearing. He called out, "Don't rush! Be patient!"
As he spoke, he rounded the corner, then froze. The exit was there.
All the mirrors were oriented differently, and the stairs to the sixth floor were visible.
Kenneth was stunned. "Didn't they say this maze was incredibly difficult? Even the best are trapped for a while. But Tiffany she did it as easily as crossing the road! Three to five minutes! Amazing!"
Kenneth sighed. "Tiffany was incredibly lucky!"
He wasn't alone in that thought. Michael, the thin supervisor watching the security footage, was shocked. "What? They cleared it just like that?"
His shock made him shout too loudly, waking Jack, a long-bearded staffer who'd been asleep. Jack grumbled, "What's wrong? Did you see that blind girl cry?"
"I'm the one who wants to cry!" Michael exclaimed, his voice trembling. "She finished in under three minutes!"
"What?" Jack, now fully awake, rubbed his eyes and saw Tiffany already ascending the stairs to the sixth floor.
Still disbelieving, he checked the recording. Just as his colleague said, Tiffany had entered the maze three minutes earlier. Her journey had been smooth and flawless; she hadn't made a single wrong turn. It was as if she knew the maze intimately.
Jack was speechless. After a moment, he finally said, "No way! She cheated! This maze is so difficult. If she didn't cheat, how did she do it?"
"Impossible," Michael shook his head. "They only arrived at the Azure Sea Royal Family today. How could she cheat in such a short time? Most importantly," Michael continued seriously, "only the royal family knows the solution to the higher levels of the Treasure Pavilion. Do you think she cheated?"
Each level requires a specific solution or map, known only to the Azure Sea Royal Family. Could this blind woman have cheated? It seemed impossible.
"That's true," Jack agreed, leaning back. After a moment, he asked, "Should we report this to higher-ups?"
It had been years since anyone reached this level in the Treasure Pavilion. The winner could claim a treasure. They had to report this, especially given Tiffany's incredible speed. Perhaps the Azure Sea King would be interested! Michael agreed that reporting it beforehand was best. "I think that's feasible."
They were about to stand when two familiar figures entered the Treasure Pavilion. They identified themselves, pointed at Tiffany on the monitor, and declared, "Miss Xanthus says this girl is detrimental to us. She ordered that the Treasure Pavilion increase the difficulty of the levels and," He made a throat-slitting gesture.
Were they planning to kill Tiffany? Michael couldn't understand. "She's just a blind girl. When did she offend Morwen? Could Morwen be jealous of her beauty?" he wondered. He pleaded, "The Azure Sea Royal Family has never done anything so underhanded. Did Miss Xanthus give the wrong order? She's just a blind girl"
"Blind?" The subordinates looked at the monitor. Tiffany's unfocused eyes and reliance on Kenneth were evident. "Even better," they thought, their killing intent intensifying. "Do you dare disobey Miss Xanthus's orders? Do as she says, or else"
The threat was clear. Morwen's high status meant they dared not defy her.
Michael nodded, "Okay."
The subordinates left. Michael and Jack exchanged bitter smiles. Even a common superior was stressful; Morwen was far worse. They had to obey.
Before activating "Hell Mode," Jack gritted his teeth. "I I can't bear it!"
No one wanted to see an innocent person die due to increased difficulty, especially a beautiful, likable blind girl. They felt sympathy for her.
But they couldn't disobey Morwen. Michael suggested a compromise: "I'll report to the Azure Sea King. If he keeps her, even the Saintess can't touch her."
"Alright, go quickly," Jack replied.
They knew the aged, depressed Azure Sea King, searching for his missing princess, was unlikely to care. Still, it was all they could do for Tiffany. The rest was up to fate.
As Michael left, Morwen's subordinates returned, demanding, "Why hasn't the difficulty increased?"
Jack smiled thinly, gritted his teeth, and activated "Hell Mode."
