Chapter 611

โ€œQuickly! Start the car!โ€ Zoe urged, clearly anxious.

Sidney hesitated, torn between engaging the attackers and escaping. With a resigned sigh, he floored the gas pedal, and the car sped off, leaving the pursuing group choking on dust and exhaust.

They were safe.

Zoe breathed a sigh of relief. Wiping the sweat from her face, she said, โ€œThank you.โ€

Sidney continued driving, saying, โ€œWhat trouble did you get into this time? Need my help sorting it out?โ€

โ€œNo need,โ€ Zoe waved dismissively, accustomed to such situations. โ€œDrop me off at the next intersection. They wonโ€™t catch up. Iโ€™ll go home alone.โ€

โ€œWhat if theyโ€™re waiting?โ€ Sidney glanced at her. โ€œDo you think you can escape them on your way home?โ€

Zoe fell silent. Brittanyโ€™s usual ambush point was her only route home. Brittany likely knew her address, explaining their presence there. Returning now risked capture.

Running her fingers through her hair, Zoe spotted a hardware store. โ€œIโ€™ll stop and get something for self-defense,โ€ she said. โ€œI canโ€™t keep hiding. Iโ€™ll fight if I have to!โ€

Sidneyโ€™s eye twitched. He gave Zoe another look, doubt in his gaze. โ€œAre you sure youโ€™re a girl?โ€

Zoe glared skeptically. โ€œWhat, you want to fight?โ€

โ€œAlright, you are,โ€ Sidney said, pulling over.

Zoe went into the hardware store. She bought a sturdy wrench and pepper spray. Her familiarity with the process made Sidney chuckle.

Standing nearby, Zoe looked cute with her short, fluffy hair and chubby frame. Her large eyes radiated vibrant energy and liveliness, revealing every emotion. Sidney recalled a previous incident where heโ€™d mistakenly thought she was suicidal, her tear-filled eyes making her seem fragile. Otherwise, she was a hero, handling everything independently.

Sidney squinted, a different thought arising. He pressed a hand to his chest. My heartโ€™s racing? he thought, momentarily stunned. He snapped out of it when Zoe tapped his shoulder. She said, โ€œYour face lookedโ€ฆ distracted. What are you thinking about? Itโ€™s still daylight.โ€

Sidneyโ€™s expression darkened. โ€œDid you get everything? Can we go?โ€

โ€œIโ€™ve got everything,โ€ Zoe replied.

โ€œThen letโ€™s go.โ€ Perhaps to relieve his frustration, Sidney drove at full speed. In under five minutes, they were back at the alley.

Chapter 611

Brittany fumed. Sheโ€™d brought many people, yet Zoe had escaped. Just as she was raging, she saw the sports car speed back. Zoe exited.

Brittanyโ€™s eyes lit up. โ€œOh, you dare come back! Girls, get her!โ€

The girls surrounded Zoe. No one noticed the driver was the infamous Pauley family heir from Lovell City.

Sidney felt a headache coming on. Rubbing his forehead, he stepped out. โ€œHad enough fun?โ€ he asked, his target unclear.

Zoe gripped the pepper spray, ready to use it. She heard Sidney and frowned. โ€œStay back!โ€ she warned. A wide-area attack could hurt him.

Unbeknownst to Zoe, Sidney wasnโ€™t addressing her. Brittany froze, her aggression vanishing. She approached Sidney, whispering, โ€œSidney, what are you doing here?โ€

Zoe was stunned. โ€œYou two are in cahoots?โ€ she asked. Oh no, heโ€™ll help his cousin, not meโ€ฆ she thought.

Zoe clenched the pepper spray. Her eyes stung; it might have leaked. A large hand snatched the bottle. Sidneyโ€™s face was inches from hers.

Zoe stood firm. โ€œIf you want to fight, then fight.โ€

Brittany felt satisfaction. She tugged at Sidneyโ€™s sleeve. โ€œSidney, youโ€™re the best! I knew youโ€™d help!โ€

Sidney looked at Brittany confusedly. โ€œHelp you? Are we that close?โ€

He left with Zoe, warning Brittany, โ€œGet lost. Do this again, and youโ€™ll face the consequences.โ€ The Pauley family wasn't to be trifled with.

The girls were stunned. โ€œWhatโ€™s going on? Why did Mr. Pauley side with an outsider? Isnโ€™t she his cousin?โ€

โ€œExactly! He sided with an outsider!โ€ another added.

Brittanyโ€™s eyes reddened. โ€œDonโ€™t ask me! Get lost! All of you!โ€ They scattered.

Sidney drove Zoe home. Feeling dizzy, Zoe asked, โ€œArenโ€™t you Brittanyโ€™s cousin? Why did you help me?โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t consider myself her cousin,โ€ Sidney said indifferently. โ€œWeโ€™re distantly related. I canโ€™t keep track of every distant relative.โ€

Zoe understood. โ€œI see.โ€

Her mood lightened. She might have resented Sidney if they were close. This eased her mind.

Zoe smiled. โ€œThanks for helping me. Want a drink?โ€

โ€œSure,โ€ Sidney agreed readily.
