Chapter 623
Morwen came to Lovell City for one reason: Tiffany. The next day was Tiffany's wedding to Richard—a day Morwen felt compelled to attend, offering a seemingly sincere "congratulations."
Since meeting Tiffany in Lovell City, Morwen's worst nightmare had unfolded. She'd seized considerable power during the king's illness, even plotting Tiffany's elimination on her wedding day. But Tiffany had outmaneuvered her, nearly killing Morwen in the process. Had it not been for an unknown savior, Morwen wouldn't have survived.
Tiffany's actions had wiped out Morwen's painstakingly accumulated power. Once revered as the untouchable Saintess within the Azure Sea Royal Family, Morwen was now sidelined, her authority and influence eroded. Most devastatingly, even her "Grandfather," after a decade of trust, had grown distant. All because of Tiffany. Morwen's years of work lay in ruins, a reality she refused to accept.
Hatred burned in Morwen's eyes.
Kenneth raised an eyebrow. "Miss Xanthus," he said, "I have a business proposition. Are you interested?"
"What kind of business?" Morwen asked.
"I know you've always desired to marry my uncle," Kenneth stated. "What if I told you I could make that happen?"
Morwen scrutinized him, her disdain evident. "You? Do you think you're capable of that?" She didn't underestimate him, but Richard was not easily manipulated, especially by someone who wasn't even his biological nephew. The idea was preposterous.
Kenneth anticipated her skepticism. Without arguing, he produced a small glass bottle. "What if I have this?"
Morwen initially dismissed it, but her pupils widened in shock. "Double Love Poison? You actually have Double Love Poison?"
As a saintess of the Azure Sea Royal Family, famed for its rare herbs, Morwen recognized the legendary poison. Legend claimed that if a man and woman each consumed a pill, they would fall in love, regardless of their feelings.
"Where did you get this?" Morwen demanded. "Where's the other pill? Did you give it to Richard? Answer me!"
Excitement thrummed through her. If Richard had taken a pill, she only needed to take the other. Tiffany would be irrelevant.
Kenneth smiled faintly. "Yes, I've given the other pill to Richard."
Overjoyed, Morwen lunged for the bottle, but Kenneth held it firm. "Miss Xanthus, we haven't finalized the terms," he said.
"Name them!" Morwen replied. "I'll agree to anything!"
"Once you marry Mr. Hampton," Kenneth said, "you must promise not to harm Tiffany Kelley."
Rage nearly consumed Morwen. This is absurd! Eliminating Tiffany is my ultimate goal! I'll deal with her after I win Richard's heart. Kenneth can't stop me then.
A calculating gleam entered her eyes. "Deal!"
"A verbal agreement isn't enough," Kenneth countered. "Swear an oath."
Morwen's face darkened. "Kenneth, don't push your luck!"
"I know what you're thinking," Kenneth smirked. He alluded to Morwen's relentless pursuit of Tiffany even when she was blind. He knew he was making a deal with the devil.
"Fine," Morwen sneered, raising her hand. "I, Morwen Xanthus, swear to the heavens that once my wish is fulfilled, I will not harm Tiffany Kelley. If I break this oath, may I die a terrible death! Satisfied, Mr. Harper?"
The Azure Sea Royal Family took oaths seriously, especially poison oaths.
Kenneth nodded. "Satisfied."
Morwen looked at him with mockery. "Mr. Harper, you're surprisingly romantic. How touching, your lengths for Tiffany."
Kenneth remained cold. "That's none of your business."
"Fine, then give me the pill," Morwen urged. "Or forget your dream girl!"
Kenneth handed over the bottle.
Morwen's face lit up with greedy excitement. She swallowed the pill, relief washing over her, replaced by confidence and arrogance. With the Double Love Poison, success was assured. The Azure Sea Royal Family, the king's distrust, even Tiffany's potential claim as princess—none of it mattered. Richard's power was all she needed. Everyone would bow to her, and Tiffany would be an insignificant ant. Morwen laughed, her alluring face twisted with venomous glee.
Kenneth pondered. "By the way, what happens if the person under its influence doesn't like you?"
Morwen's grin widened. "Anyone who resists the Double Love Poison faces only one end: death!"
