When everyone at the party went to look for Tiffany, Sandra was extremely reluctant. However, she had no choice; everyone else was going. As Tiffany's sister, refusing would make her appear cold and uncaring. So, she reluctantly followed.
Her hesitation, however, delayed her. She couldn't keep up with Kenneth and the others. Her shouts went unheard; no one stopped to wait. She even sprained her ankle during the chase.
The distance between them grew, and the forest path branched repeatedly. She became lost and was eventually rescued. Sandra blamed Tiffany and Kenneth for her predicament, believing Kenneth would feel sorry for her once he saw her injured state. She’d imagined countless scenarios, but never expected Tiffany, whom she considered dead, to be alive.
"The tiger didn't eat her!" Sandra clenched her fists in anger. Mia had revealed a plan to secretly move Tiffany's backpack, promising Tiffany would die in the resulting accident. Instead, Tiffany was the team's star, showered with attention.
Sandra was furious, nearly fainting. Kenneth noticed her collapse, rushing to her side and embracing her. "Sandra, why are you here? Are you alright?"
"If I weren't here, how would I know you're all so happy?" Hiding her anger, she forced a tired smile. "I was worried about you, so I followed, but I couldn't keep up. I fell and sprained my ankle"
She was a sorry sight: her uniform was dirty, and thorns had scratched her hands. Kenneth saw her swollen, red ankle, clear evidence of the sprain. Yet, she didn't cry, instead seeming to comfort him, offering a gentle, weak but tenacious smile.
Kenneth felt a pang of sympathy. He lifted her gently, saying, "Silly girl. I told you to wait; I never expected you to follow. You've been through so much. Let me check your wound."
He carried her back to the team, explaining, "Sandra was injured chasing after us. Let's rest." Tiffany's plan was to reach the mountaintop before nightfall. The team, energized and eager to continue, instinctively looked to Tiffany for her opinion when Kenneth announced the rest stop.
Observing this subtle shift in dynamics, Sandra clenched her fists, saying aggrievedly, "I'm sorry. I'm holding everyone back. Please, continue. Don't worry about me…" Her voice trailed off, as if she’d been wronged.
Despite his seeming ineffectiveness during the search, Kenneth, as team leader, felt for Sandra and, wishing to avoid any challenge to his authority, firmly declared, "Rest here!"
Silence followed. He frowned, then said, "We're a team. We have to…"
Tiffany interrupted, "Everyone, rest. We'll continue in twenty minutes."
The hesitant team immediately obeyed, shouting, "Yes, Boss!" It was clear Tiffany, not Kenneth, was the true leader. If given a choice, everyone would choose Tiffany.
Kenneth, however, remained focused on his goal. He gently set Sandra down, placing his coat on the ground for her comfort. "Take off your shoes. I'll apply some ointment."
"Kenneth…" Sandra's expression changed. "Kenneth, you're so good to me. Am I a burden? Is everyone ignoring you because of me?"
She was subtly suggesting Tiffany was undermining Kenneth's authority, hoping to appeal to his pride. Having been raised in wealth, Kenneth had never been ignored.
Sandra’s attempt to sow discord failed. Kenneth remained unfazed. "I don't care," he said. His priority was completing the challenge, regardless of leadership.
Sandra was stunned. Had something changed while she was lagging behind?
Later, she quietly asked Anna Stella, a classmate, "Anna, when you rescued my sister, did anything unusual happen?"
Anna excitedly recounted the events: "We went to save her, but we didn't need to! That tiger became Tiffany's pet—completely obedient! And even if you fell behind, you saw the helicopters, right? Richard Hampton! He's so handsome!"
Sandra, alarmed, asked, "Richard Hampton? Was he here for Kenneth?"
"No!" Anna gushed. "He came for Tiffany!"
Anna, though envious, understood the vast difference in their social standing. She simply mused, "I wonder what their relationship is… The rumors must be true!"
Unseen by Anna, Sandra’s eyes burned with resentment. Tiffany had not only tamed the tiger, but Richard Hampton, a powerful and influential figure, had flown to her rescue!
"Why? It's not fair!" Sandra glared at Tiffany, who, resting under a tree, suddenly opened her eyes and met Sandra's venomous gaze.
