Chapter 100
Henry’s eyes widened in disbelief. He thought, “How could I, as an elder, apologize to a junior? Especially not in front of so many people. Isn’t that the same as dragging my reputation through the mud?”
“You don’t want to?” Landon raised an eyebrow coldly, and nodded his head slightly to Amelia. “I’m sorry.”
A powerful presence sent a chill down Henry’s spine. Gritting his teeth, Henry bowed his head.
“Landon is almost fully recovered now. From now on, the company will be managed by the two of us, so you don’t need to worry anymore,” Amelia said. Too ashamed to stay, Henry turned and stormed out.
The shareholders and executives, seeing Landon had returned, smiled warmly. “Congratulations on your recovery, Mr. Kingsley,” many people said. “Mr. Kingsley, we’ve missed you during your time away.” Their heartfelt enthusiasm filled Landon with appreciation. He quietly took Amelia’s hand and whispered, “You won the bet. Are you happy?”
“Yes,” Amelia replied, her eyes lighting up with a smile. Winning her very first bet felt incredibly satisfying. It seemed like she was falling in love with the role of a powerful CEO.
“I’m tired. Let’s talk later,” Landon said.
“Okay.” Amelia stood and addressed the room, “Everyone, Landon’s recovery is still ongoing. Let’s wrap up today’s meeting here.”
Someone replied, “Of course. Mr. Kingsley, please rest well.” Many people echoed, “Wishing Mr. Kingsley a full recovery soon.”
Amelia wheeled Landon back to the CEO’s office, where the secretaries couldn’t help but offer their well-wishes. Once the office door was closed, she quickly called out, “Dr. Harrington, please take a look at him.”
“Amelia, there’s no need,” Wesley laughed. “Landon’s doing just fine. Today, I finally got to see you in action. You’re truly a woman of great capability.”
Amelia blushed awkwardly, smiling. “I’m not that impressive. It’s all thanks to Landon’s support behind the scenes.”
“Everyone says you’re decisive and exceptionally capable,” Wesley teased.
Amelia glanced at Landon and thought, “Am I really that capable?”
“You’re very impressive,” Landon nodded. “But you need to change how you address me.”
“How?” Amelia was puzzled.
Landon continued, “Don’t call me by my full name in public anymore. From now on, you’ll call me honey.”
Wesley burst out laughing. “Exactly. Amelia, you’d better pay attention.”
Amelia froze, a shy blush spreading across her face. “That’s not appropriate.”
“I’ve been calling you honey,” Landon teased.
“You don’t have to call me that,” Amelia replied, frowning slightly. She didn’t force him to do anything. Besides, Landon hadn’t exactly gotten her permission to call her that in front of everyone.
“Wasn’t it you who started it?” Landon smirked. “Grandma always hears you calling me so sweetly when she visits.”
Amelia’s face turned bright red. She stammered, “That was… because I had no other choice.”
“Well, the situation isn’t much better now,” Landon continued. “My legs still aren’t fully recovered, and they won’t let this slide.”
Amelia’s heart skipped a beat. “What should we do?”
“Honey, you’ll need to continue to work at the company,” Landon said.
“Isn’t that unnecessary?” Amelia sighed, clearly unenthusiastic. She thought, “It’s his company–he can manage it just fine on his own. Why do I need to get involved?”
“You know, I get tired easily and need more rest,” Landon added, coughing lightly for emphasis.
Wesley chuckled, “Amelia, when Landon’s fully recovered, it’ll be up to you.”
“…” Amelia was at a loss for words. She thought, “I’m no miracle worker–why is all this pressure being placed on me?”
“Mr. Kingsley, the rest area is ready,” Aaron said.
“Honey, continue working,” Landon waved, heading to rest.
“Amelia, you can do this. We’re all rooting for you,” Wesley said as he left.
Speechless, Amelia looked at the pile of work on her desk and felt a headache coming on. With a deep sigh, she resigned herself to getting started.
Meanwhile, Landon was comfortably lying in the CEO’s office’s rest area, scrolling through his phone. Aaron murmured, “Mr. Kingsley, is it really okay to have Mrs. Kingsley work like this?”
“For two million dollars a day–who wouldn’t like this kind of work?” Landon replied flatly.
“Good point,” Aaron said and thought to himself, “Give me two million dollars a day, and my whole family is at your service.”
“Have they caught the person who killed Zachary?” Landon asked.
“Not yet. But the Foster family has already taken Zachary’s body back. The police have started investigating based on the type of gun used by the killer.”
“We need them to move faster. William can’t die.” Landon narrowed his eyes. He thought, “What does William know that is worth Zachary being silenced?”
“Mr. Kingsley, as you instructed, four more bodyguards have been assigned to protect Mrs. Kingsley in secret. However, Pamela’s emotions are unstable, and she might cause trouble again.”
“Tell Matthew to control Pamela. If he can’t even handle this, then he has no business running the Foster family,” Landon snorted coldly. Aaron nodded in understanding and immediately sent a message to Matthew.
Landon unlocked his phone and started his work–informing the family businesses and major clients that he was back at the company and doing some relationship management through words.
Amelia was too young, with little experience and work knowledge. Under his guidance, the company hadn’t suffered losses, but the profits were too small, and that wasn’t a long-term solution.
Right now, there were countless undercurrents, waiting to take over Kingsley Group’s clients. Landon had to take action. And Patrick, that freak, was a threat that couldn’t be ignored.
Landon’s concerns proved to be right. At that moment, Patrick had parked his car not far from Kingsley Villa, gritting his teeth as he stared at the villa in front of him.
After receiving a call from Henry, Patrick rushed over immediately, hoping to kill Landon while he was still recovering. But Landon wasn’t home. He had gone to the company early, keeping it a secret from everyone.
Patrick, frustrated, asked Henry on the phone, “Dad, is he really up and talking?”
“He’s energetic. Except for his legs, he’s just like before,” Henry said angrily. “Patrick, we’ve been fooled by him and Amelia.”
“Such a great scheme…” Patrick let out a cold, eerie laugh that sent shivers down the spine.
Henry snapped, “It’s all Amelia’s fault. If she hadn’t taken Landon out of the hospital, we would have succeeded by now.”
“Dad, what’s the point of blaming a woman? Our real opponent is Landon,” Patrick said.
“Are you still defending Amelia?” Henry exclaimed in surprise. “Let me tell you, Amelia is sharp. The tricks you used on her? She probably saw right through them.”
Patrick thought, “Tricks? Not entirely. Amelia has successfully awakened my desire to conquer.”
“Dad, no one is allowed to hurt Amelia without my permission. As for Landon, he must die.” Patrick gripped the steering wheel tightly, so furious that he could almost drive into the villa. But Landon wasn’t home. What was the point of crashing into the house?
“Of course. If he doesn’t die, we’ll all have to live under his thumb. This needs careful planning. Come back and discuss it.”
“No need to discuss, I have a plan.” Patrick gave a sinister smile, turned the steering wheel, and headed to Kingsley Group. If he couldn’t handle things in the shadows, he’d bring them into the open.
