Chapter 155
Joanna could see the murderous intent in Landon’s eyes, yet she felt no fear at all. In this world, aside from Morgan, only the Meyers family could recognize genuine Velmira. Before arriving in Norava, she ensured that Morgan was out of the way and that Wesley was incapacitated.
‘Currently, no one can determine if this medicine is genuine or counterfeit! As if I’d ever give up the authentic Velmira! What’s in the box is a slow-acting poison—the type that takes two weeks to take effect!’ Joanna thought smugly.
“Let me take a look.” Suddenly, a delicate male voice broke the tension.
‘Jonas? What is he doing here?’ Amelia wondered, feeling bemused.
“Jonas!” Landon warned sharply. ‘What’s that fool doing here, causing trouble at a time like this?’ Landon thought impatiently.
Just as Landon was considering taking Jonas down, Jonas squatted playfully, locking eyes with Joanna. “Do you remember me?”
Joanna’s face turned pale as she stared, her eyes wide with shock. “You!” she gasped. “But you’re supposed to be dead!”
“I’m long life!” Jonas exclaimed, standing up with a grin as he turned to Landon. “Mr. Kingsley, I’m from the Meyers family, and I can authenticate Velmira.”
“Is that you, the Meyers family from Lunova?” Landon asked, surprised.
Jonas nodded. “That’s right.”
“I never realized who you truly were… Fine, here, take it.” Landon handed the medicine box to Jonas.
With everyone watching, Jonas ripped open the gold foil, took a quick sniff of the medicine, and then put it back. “It’s fake,” he announced.
‘Just as I suspected!’ Landon thought. Seething with rage, he shot her a cold glare. Through gritted teeth, he spat, “Since you enjoy playing games so much, why not keep the medicine for yourself?” With a single, icy look from Landon, his men moved in, prepared to force the medicine down Joanna’s throat.
“I’ll take care of it,” Jonas said without hesitation as he pushed the pill directly into Joanna’s mouth.
Joanna swiftly turned her head away in refusal, but Jonas was relentless, tilting her chin up and forcing her gaze back. The entire struggle lasted only two seconds.
Amelia blinked, her fingers absently tracing the rose-shaped ring on her finger. As memories surfaced of how she had used it to bring down Patrick and how Jonas’s attitude towards her had changed afterward, a sudden idea struck her.
‘Jonas is aware of Landon’s other identity, and he admires him!’ Amelia exclaimed in surprise. ‘What exactly is Landon’s other identity?’ she wondered.
“Cardemora won’t take effect for another two weeks. So why not enjoy your time in Norava until then?” Jonas said with a mocking smile.
Joanna glared furiously at Jonas. “You ungrateful little traitor! I should have thrown you into the crematorium myself back then!”
“There’s no point in crying over spilled milk!” Jonas waved his hand dismissively.
Landon took a deep breath, had someone help Joanna to her feet, and fixed her with a cold stare. He growled, “I’ll ask you one more time–where is Velmira?”
“In Lunova…” Joanna finally confessed, her voice barely above a whisper.
“Since you have broken your promise, Mrs. Zuckerberg, I have no choice but to take action against Maisie!” Landon said.
Chapter 155
“Landon Kingsley, are you truly capable of murder?” Joanna exclaimed in horror.
One failed plan after another had finally pushed her to her breaking point. She had to acknowledge that a powerful outsider was no match for the focal forces. No matter how influential she was in Lunova, here in Norava, she had no choice but to submit.
“Of course I could,” Landon said, a cold and predatory smile curling on his lips. “But I won’t kill Maisie—I have other ways…”
Joanna finally understood; her face drained of color. “You call yourself a man?” she snapped. “What kind of man treats a woman this way?”
Landon retorted, “Mrs. Zuckerberg, you are the one who went back on your words. As for me, a Kingsley, I focus solely on results–methods don’t matter!”
Amelia silently observed their power play unfold. Not only was Joanna ruthless, but she also harbored deep schemes. Amelia thought, “But can Landon truly keep her in check?”
As the standoff lingered, Jonas flashed a grin, which only intensified the tension. “Mr. Kingsley, I have an array of unique items I could present.”
“Jonas!” Joanna exclaimed, shaking with anger. “Maisie is your cousin!”
“Ever since the Meyers family disowned me, we have ceased to be family,” Jonas said coldly.
Now it all made sense to Landon–why Jonas had not appeared in his investigation of the Meyers. He had been disowned and removed from the family records.
“Alright, let’s see what you have,” Landon said.
As a Meyers herself, Joanna understood precisely the unique items Jonas was referencing.
“Fine,” Joanna finally relented through clenched teeth. “The real Velmira is here—in my pocket.”
“You could have just said that from the beginning!” Jonas held out a pill–identical in size to the Cardemora from earlier, also wrapped in gold foil. He carefully unwrapped it, examined it, and took a sniff.
Finally, he confidently presented it to Amelia. “Mrs. Kingsley,” he said, “this is genuine.”
“Thank goodness…” Amelia took the medicine, feeling a sense of relief. ‘Finally, I have the real Velmira,’ she thought with a sense of gratitude. ‘Now I can finally start a family with Landon!’
“Let Maisie go now,” Joanna demanded through clenched teeth.
“Of course,” Landon said, snapping his fingers as a black sedan pulled up nearby.
From within the car, Maisie observed everything unfold, taking in the entire scene with perfect clarity. Witnessing her mother’s cruelty left a bitter taste in her mouth.
She always believed that Joanna was kind and beautiful, thinking any harsh actions were her way of protecting the Zuckerberg family. However, today she finally recognized the truth–beneath those decisive actions lay a heart filled with pure cruelty.
Maisie stared at Joanna, feeling a sense of unfamiliarity. After stepping out of the car, she stood there for what felt like an eternity before finally whispering hoarsely, “Mom…”
“Mais!” Joanna exclaimed as she hurried over to Maisie, anxiously checking to see if she was alright. “Are you okay? Are you hurt? Did they bully you?”
Maisie shook her head. “No,” she said softly. “Don’t worry, I’ve been in the hotel’s presidential suite the entire time. I’ve been well taken care of.”
Joanna finally relaxed. “Okay, that’s good to hear.”
“Mom, you’ve been poisoned. Take the antidote first,” Maisie urged, quickly placing the pill in Joanna’s mouth.
Chapter 155
Joanna stared at Maisie in shock. “Where did you find the antidote?” she asked.
“Landon gave it to me,” sighed Maisie. “I suppose only Grandma has the antidote for Cardemora, right?”
“Yeah…” Joanna clenched her jaw and glared at Landon and the others with palpable disdain.
Joanna arrived in Norava with a clear objective: to eliminate Amelia. Confident in her plan, she hadn’t even considered bringing the antidote with her. Now, she found herself in a predicament and needed to return to Lunova immediately.
Watching Joanna and her group hurry away, Landon finally broke into a smile and turned to Amelia. “Honey,” he said softly, “you will be healed soon.”
Amelia felt a wave of relief. However, she recalled Morgan’s warning that Velmira alone wouldn’t provide a complete cure; it had to be combined with her other treatments. Morgan was always on the go–there was no way to predict when they would manage to find him.
“Don’t worry, honey,” Landon said, gently squeezing her hand. “Morgan will come in person to treat you in a few days.”
Fidgeting nervously nearby, Jonas spoke up, “I can help her, too.”
“You?” Amelia and Landon both stared at him in disbelief.
Jonas blushed with embarrassment and stammered, “I don’t just create poisons–I can also treat illnesses. And I was the one who made the poison affecting Mrs. Kingsley…”
“Jonas!” Landon seethed with rage, his fists clenched and ready to strike.
Jonas kept dodging and pleading, his hands raised in surrender. “I swear, I had no idea Patrick would use it hurt anyone!”
“Why on earth were you tampering with such a dangerous poison?” Amelia snapped, her irritation making her want to kick him as well.
Jonas stepped back, looking upset as he exclaimed, “Hey, I was just doing my job…”
“Mom, thank you for coming to save me. Where’s the antidote?” Maisie asked.
“The antidote is in the car. I’m okay,” Joanna assured.
