Chapter 162
Landon stood outside, his heart racing with fear. "Someone wants to kill Amy? And not just one person?" he thought, utterly stunned.
"Come in here. I'm not going to repeat it," Porter said. At the sound of his voice, Giovanna yanked the door open and stared at Landon in shock.
'Damn it,' she thought bitterly. 'Grandpa and Dad had warned me to be careful, especially not to disrupt Amelia's life. No sooner had I made my move than Landon appeared. Just how intimidating is this man?'
"Giovanna," Landon greeted. The year Catherine left Lunova, Giovanna…
"How did you find me?" Giovanna asked coldly.
...was already six and could remember things clearly.
In the soft glow of the light, Landon recognized traces of Amelia in her face. With a gentle chuckle, he remarked, "I own that café."
Giovanna was left speechless, thinking, 'How could I have missed such important news?'
Giovanna glanced at Landon for a long moment before finally stepping aside. Aaron wheeled Landon inside, and with their arrival, the spacious room suddenly felt cramped.
Landon assessed Porter, who met his gaze with equal intensity. One was a battle-hardened veteran past his prime, while the other was a soaring eagle in the height of his youth.
"Mr. Zuckerberg," Landon broke the silence. "You mentioned that there are others who want to harm Amy. Who are they?"
"The Kington Gang," Porter said.
Landon's face turned pale, his eyes wide with shock. 'The Kington Gang—an infamous underworld organization from Dreicean. How could Amy have crossed paths with them?' he thought, stunned.
"It all comes down to that tiara," Porter sighed. "The William Smith you're looking for is in my possession, and I'm the one keeping Amy from seeing him."
By now, Landon had put the pieces together. He fixed his gaze on Porter, his brows furrowing slightly. "So, you're the one protecting Amy?"
"Yeah." Porter nodded slowly.
"Then why did you have to show up?" Giovanna demanded. Prejudice kept her from trusting Porter.
Porter smiled wryly and said, "Now that you're all here, how much longer can I possibly remain hidden?"
Giovanna sneered, "We may have kept our distance from Amy, but she will always be a member of the Hughes family."
Landon was deeply shaken. 'So this is how the Hughes family feels about Amy, even after keeping their distance all this time!' he thought, astonished. 'It's not that they didn't love her; it's just that… they couldn't afford to love her too deeply.' A wave of helplessness washed over Landon.
Porter asked, "Landon, what are your thoughts on this?"
Suddenly called out, Landon responded, "Anyone who dares to touch my Honey will pay a hundredfold!"
"Excellent!" Porter said with a satisfied nod.
Giovanna looked at Landon in the wheelchair with quiet satisfaction. Despite being in a wheelchair, Landon was a more genuine man and far more responsible than Porter.
She thought, 'I hope he’ll keep his promise and protect Amy for life. I wish Landon won’t end up like Uncle–falling for someone else and breaking Aunt’s heart!'
"Is William in your custody?" Landon asked.
"Yes, I ordered Carlo to kill Zachary," Porter confessed, sparing Landon the need to ask again.
Landon found it bitterly ironic, 'Since when did he commit murder?' he thought.
"Amy promised Rachel that she would ensure William's safe return," Landon said firmly. "Mr. Zuckerberg, please release him."
At a glance from Porter, Carlo promptly replied, "Mr. Kingsley, I will have William delivered to your residence tomorrow."
"Very well," Landon nodded. "If there's nothing else you need, Mr. Zuckerberg, I'll head home. If I stay out all night, my Honey will be mad at me."
Aaron rolled his eyes at Landon's last-minute display of affection. 'Mr. Kingsley, could you please concentrate on work? Enough with the public displays already!' He thought, 'Seriously, do you have to show off your love like this in front of the elders?'
"Please don't mention that I'm here," cautioned Porter.
"Alright," Landon replied and left.
Giovanna shot Porter a venomous glare before quickly hurrying after Landon. "Mr. Kingsley, wait up!"
Landon stopped. "Giovanna," he said, "you're only six months older than me. Just call me by my name."
"Don't tell Amy about tonight," Giovanna said firmly.
"So the Hughes family still refuses to acknowledge her?" Landon asked in a cold tone.
"That's right," Giovanna said, taking a deep breath. "We still don't know who Amy's biological father is."
"Does it even matter?" Landon's gaze turned icy.
Giovanna hesitated, then, after a long pause, quietly yet firmly stated, "It matters."
Landon's expression darkened instantly. Without saying a word, he turned and walked away, radiating coldness and distance. A brisk wind swept by. Giovanna tightened her coat around herself before getting into the car and driving off.
Porter stood by the window, watching the taillights disappear into the night with a conflicted look on his face. Carlo whispered, "Mr. Zuckerberg, what if Mrs. Zuckerberg comes looking for us?"
Porter said, "It's time we relocated."
"Yes, will do," Carlo replied.
Amelia and Edith chatted late into the night. Noticing that Landon still hadn't returned home from work, Amelia decided to stay over in Edith's room for the night.
Shrouded in the predawn dark, Landon returned to an empty room and a cold bed. His expression darkened. He'd rushed home, worried he'd upset her, only to find she'd gone off to sleep at Edith's. 'Now that she has friends, she's forgotten all about her husband,' he thought, jealousy creeping in.
Still fuming, Landon rose from his wheelchair in a huff, stomped off to wash up, then climbed into bed. When Amy returned, she was startled to see his wheelchair parked ten feet from the bed.
She nervously touched the photo and fell onto the bed, saying, "Honey, please don't be upset…"
Landon huffed, clearly expressing his displeasure. He rolled over with a sigh, turning his back to her. 'Oh, so now you realize I'm angry?' Landon thought.
Amelia teased, "Well, you got back so late! I thought you were going to stay out all night!" With a mischievous grin, Amelia turned him to face her, playfully coaxing him. "Come on, honey, please don't be upset, alright?"
Landon maintained a stoic expression. "Doesn't she care at all that I might stay out all night with another woman?"
Amelia giggled playfully. "Honey, I trust you completely. That's why I didn't disturb you while you were working late. You work so hard for us—let me give you a massage!"
"No need!" Landon brushed her hand away.
Amelia pouted, "Fine! Just go ahead and sleep. Edith and I are going shopping."
'Still at it?' Landon wondered as he pulled her close into his arms. "You're just trying to get a rise out of me, aren't you? Be careful, or I'll make sure you can't get out of this bed for days!"
"I've already tried to make amends, and you're still upset? What else am I supposed to do?" Amelia huffed, sounding completely justified.
Landon was stunned. "Could you try a little more?"
Amelia firmly pushed his hand away, refusing to indulge him. "Aren't you tired from working late? You should go get some sleep."
Landon nipped at her ear and whispered, "Why are you being so mean to me?"
Amelia smiled playfully. "Am I being mean? I definitely have a conscience. Experience it," Amelia said with a playful grin.
Landon pressed his hand against her chest and teased, "You're well-endowed—I can't feel a thing."
Amelia's lips twitched in irritation. For the first time, she recognized that her ample endowments could prevent him from seeing her sense of integrity.
"Honey, I want you…" Landon whispered, desire sparkling in his eyes.
Amelia swatted his hand away. "Weren't you just grumpy from working overtime?"
He smiled and said, "You take the lead, and I'll just go along for the ride." He wrapped his arms around her waist and effortlessly lifted her onto his lap.
'In broad daylight and this position? How embarrassing!' Amelia thought, her cheeks aflame. She blushed furiously and attempted to wriggle free. "I don't want to…" she protested softly.
"I want it," Landon pleaded.
Amelia was at a loss for words. Ultimately, she couldn't resist Landon's heartfelt pleas and gave in to him.
Amelia was so exhausted after their passionate time together that she fell fast asleep in Landon's arms. Holding his beloved wife close, Landon also drifted off to sleep, feeling deeply content.
Before going to sleep, he texted Aaron:
