Chapter 182

Aiden’s smile froze on his face, and he quickly turned away. “There’s no need!”

Amelia sneered, “Weren’t you looking to go out with my sister? She’s my only sister, you know...snow. We grew up together! She’s single, gorgeous, and totally your type…”

“Enough!” Aiden snapped, cutting off Amelia in irritation.

Amelia stifled a laugh, unable to hide her amusement.

This guy had gotten close to her on purpose, and he’d dug up everything about her family.

Sandra wasn’t just unrelated to her by blood. She’d also had a thing with Zachary, lost a child, and couldn’t have kids anymore.

Aiden definitely wouldn’t be interested in someone like that.

She was just messing with him on purpose, trying to gross him out.

“Mr. Kyle, if Sandra really isn’t your type, I actually have another sister I just reconnected with in Lunova… I barely know her myself,” Amelia said, her voice light and teasing.

“You sure have a lot of sisters,” Aiden shot back, unable to keep his irritation off his face.

Amelia pressed her lips together, looking absolutely delighted.

“Mrs. Kingsley, you really do love to joke, but I’ve got things to handle. Let’s talk another time.” Aiden huffed, leading Edith and Landen away in a hurry.

Amelia had won this round.

Carefully, she pulled Landen’s blond hair from her pocket, then picked up a strand of Gloria’s hair from the couch, sending both off for a DNA test.

Landen’s visit had practically stolen Gloria’s soul–she was completely entranced.

She couldn’t stop thinking about him, day or night.

Every single day, she kept going on about how much she wished Landen would come over again.

“Gloria, that’s someone else’s kid,” Amelia reminded her.

Gloria looked stunned for a second, then let out a sigh. “Isn’t Edith your cousin? Can’t you ask her to bring Landen over to hang out?”

“She’s just Landen’s piano teacher, not his guardian. Without Mr. Kyle’s permission, she can’t just take him out whenever she wants,” Amelia explained.

Gloria looked absolutely crushed–she lost her appetite for everything, even tea and food.

It didn’t even take two days before she was down with a fever.

Amelia watched all of this unfold, her suspicions almost completely confirmed.

Only blood ties could create such endless longing, right?

At that moment, all she had to do was wait for the DNA test results.

Two days later, Amelia couldn’t bear to see her mother-in-law so down anymore, so she invited Edith over again and specifically asked her to bring Landen along.

Sure enough, Gloria really was just pining for him.

The moment she saw Landen, she was full of energy again. “Oh Landen, you’re here! Want to play some games with me?”

Landen replied with a sweet smile, “Okay!”

Amelia was at a loss for words.

Ugh, why hadn’t those DNA results come back yet? She had this wild suspicion bottled up inside, but she didn’t dare breathe a word to anyone; if she kept holding it in, she was seriously going to make herself sick!

Gloria and Landen were having a great time playing together, and even Edith couldn’t help but laugh at the scene.

“Amelia, your mother-in-law really adores kids. When you have your baby, you probably won’t even get a chance to take care of them. She’ll snatch the little one right up!” Edith joked.

“Heh, we’ll see about that,” Amelia said, coughing lightly.

Amelia gently touched her still-flat stomach.

‘My child–I want to raise him myself,’ she thought firmly.

Edith and Landen spent the whole day playing at the house and only left in the afternoon, leaving Gloria completely satisfied.

Landon came home early and noticed some kids‘ toys at home. He asked in surprise, "Mom, the baby isn’t even born yet–why are you already buying toys?”

“They’re Landen’s toys,” Gloria said, flipping through photos with a blissful smile on her face.

‘Landen?’ Landon blinked at the name.

‘Mom called that name so affectionately. She never called me with that tone even when I was a kid,’ he thought, a little stunned.

“It’s Landen Kyle, Aiden’s nephew,” Amelia said, nodding toward the photos. “Edith brought him over to play, and Gloria took tons of selfies with him.”

“Let me see,” Landon said, his curiosity getting the better of him.

‘What kind of adorable kid could make Mom so attached?’ Landon wondered, feeling genuinely intrigued.

He leaned in to look at the photos.

The moment he saw them, he was stunned.

Amelia saw the look on Landon’s face and could tell he was suspicious too.

She quickly tugged his arm, motioning for him to go back to their room to talk.

Landon took a deep breath, trying to steady his racing heart.

As soon as they were in the room, he asked, “Is that Landen?”

“Yeah! You suspect it too, don’t you?” Amelia let out a sigh.

“They look so much alike…” Landon murmured, his voice trembling with disbelief.

He was both excited and dazed. “It feels… just like when I was a kid with Kayla,” he admitted, his thoughts spinning.

“His eyes–they look even more like yours and Kayla’s,” Amelia said softly.

She pulled up photos of Landon and Landen, zooming in on their eyes and placing them side by side.

It was uncanny–they looked just like a real father and son!

“He… he…” Landon was so shocked that he could barely get the words out.

“Babe, calm down! The DNA test is already in the works. Just hang in there a little longer,” Amelia said, grinning at him.

Landon pulled her into his arms. “You really do think of everything. When did you start to suspect?”

“Honestly, the first time I met Landen, I just had this strange gut feeling. And then Aiden kept finding excuses to bring him around me. Whether he meant to or not, it just made things even weirder,” Amelia admitted.

Her mind was a tangled mess of emotions and suspicions.

“Babe, if Landen really is Kayla’s child, then what is Aiden really after?” Amelia asked, her voice full of concern.

It was like a bucket of ice water had been dumped over Landon–he instantly sobered up.

‘Yeah, if Kayla really is Paloma, then why hasn’t Aiden just brought her back to Norava himself?’ Landon wondered, his mind racing.

‘Why is he going through all these hoops? What is he really after?’ Landon thought, suspicion gnawing at him.

“Babe, I already talked to Edith. When Landen leaves, we’re planning to go to Dreicean to find Paloma. Once the DNA results are in, let’s go together, okay? Whether she’s Kayla or not, we should see for ourselves. I just can’t shake the feeling that I’m connected to her somehow,” Amelia said, her voice full of determination.

Landon nodded hard. “Of course! Honey, thank you… I never realized you were doing all this for me behind my back…”

“We’re husband and wife!” Amelia said, giving his back a gentle pat. “You’ve done so much for me too, haven’t you?”

Landon rested his chin in the crook of her neck, his eyes growing misty.

‘Kayla, could it really be you?’ he wondered, his heart full of hope and uncertainty.

“By the way, has Patrick come back yet?” Amelia asked.

“He’s gone missing. I’m still looking for him,” Landon replied, his voice serious.

“What? But he can barely move…” Amelia said, her concern clear in her voice.

Landon closed his eyes, holding her close as he continued, “There’s no way he could’ve escaped on his own. My enemies… they might have shown up.”

Amelia was stunned, an inexplicable fear creeping into her heart.

It was even scarier than when she was kidnapped by Joanna.

“Who are your enemies?” Amelia asked, her voice trembling with unease.

“Amelia, if…” Landon hesitated, his words trailing off.

Landon faltered, clearly struggling to get the words out.

Amelia’s mind was a mess, anxiety twisting in her gut. “Just say it!” she urged.

“I want to go to Ausposh myself. Will you be okay staying home?” Landon asked softly.

Amelia instinctively wrapped her arms around his waist. “No, I don’t want to be separated from you…”

“Ausposh’s climate is rough, and there’s been a lot of dengue fever and malaria going around lately. You’re pregnant. You really shouldn’t go,” Landon said, his voice firm.

“But…” Amelia hesitated.

She had been through a lot and was finally going to be a mother. The last thing she wanted was to put her baby at risk.

“Be good, okay? I’ll be back in a week, tops,” Landon said, trying to reassure her.

“Then tell me. Who are your enemies?” Amelia pressed, her nerves on edge.

Amelia bit her lower lip but still couldn’t shake the fear inside.

‘Just how dangerous could a business rival really be?’ she wondered, doubt gnawing at her.

Her gaze drifted to the safe in the corner of the room, and the stuff inside made her even more anxious.

“Babe, is there something else you’re hiding from me? You’re not just a businessman, are you?” Amelia asked, her voice steady even as her heart pounded in her chest.

“Yeah.” He smiled, a hint of mischief in his eyes. “You finally figured it out.”

Amelia pushed him away, her frustration boiling over. “What is it?”

“Remember Project Azureveil in Lunova?” Landon asked, his voice calm but serious.

“Of course,” Amelia replied, her mind racing.

That project totally wiped out the Meyers family, who never even had a chance to fight back.

“I’m the one in charge of Project Azureveil,” Landon said, his tone steady but heavy with meaning.

‘No way!’ Amelia was shocked.
