Chapter 185

The next day, the DNA test results were finally out.

Amelia’s heart was pounding with excitement and nerves as she went to pick up the report.

“Mrs. Kingsley, good afternoon.” Aiden was there too, and they ran right into each other in the hospital lobby.

Amelia’s heart skipped a beat. She asked with a hint of guilt, “Mr. Kyle? What are you doing here?”

“I wasn’t feeling well, so I came in for a checkup.” Aiden held up his registration slip with a smile.

Amelia felt a wave of relief.

‘So he wasn’t following me after all,’ she thought.

“Why are you here alone, Mrs. Kingsley?” Aiden glanced behind her. “Where’s Mr. Kingsley? Why isn’t he with you?”

“He’s busy,” Amelia replied, keeping Landon’s trip to Ausposh to herself.

“So, what brings you here?” Aiden asked.

“I… I’m here for a prenatal checkup,” Amelia blurted out.

‘I’m really not good at lying,’ she thought, realizing she’d accidentally let her pregnancy slip.

If Landen was really Kayla’s son, then Aiden had known all along and kept it from everyone–he was definitely hiding something.

Before the results came out, she couldn’t let him find out she was getting a DNA test behind his back.

Aiden’s pupils shrank sharply, and his smile froze awkwardly on his face.

“You’re pregnant? Well, congratulations,” he forced a smile and said.

“Thanks!” Amelia glanced at her watch, pretending to be in a hurry. “Mr. Kyle, I have to go now. See you!”

Aiden waved, his gaze growing darker as he watched Amelia walk away.

‘Pregnant, huh…’ Aiden thought to himself.

‘But didn’t she say her health was damaged and that it would be hard for her to get pregnant?’ he wondered.

Amelia headed straight for the obstetrics department. Only after making absolutely sure Aiden wasn’t tailing her did she slip away to another floor.

After winding her way through the hospital, she finally arrived at the DNA testing center.

“Hi, I’m Amelia Edwards. I’m here to pick up my report,” she said.

“Just a moment,” the staff member replied.

As the staff member went to look for the report, Amelia couldn’t help but feel her nerves tightening.

Even though she knew Aiden wouldn’t show up there, she still felt inexplicably anxious.

‘Maybe it’s just my guilty conscience acting up,’ she thought.

Those few minutes felt like an eternity.

“Here’s your report,” the staff member finally said, handing it over.

Amelia grabbed the report and hurried out, afraid that if she stayed even a second longer, she might bump into Aiden.

As for what was inside–well, the results weren’t going anywhere. She’d check them in the car where it was safe.

What she didn’t realize was that Aiden had been watching her every move the whole time.

“Brooke, don’t start the car yet,” Amelia said, her heart racing with excitement.

As soon as she got in, she flipped on the interior light and opened the report.

The match rate between the two reports was over a... They were biological grandmother and grandson! which meant Landen had a quarter of Gloria’s genes!

Amelia’s eyes welled up with tears. “Brooke, what do I do? I think I’ve found Kayla’s child…”

“What?” Brooke was completely stunned.

“Who are you talking about?” she blurted out.

“Landen,” Amelia replied.

“Wait–him?” Brooke stared in disbelief.

Brooke tried to picture the boy’s face, still unable to wrap her head around it. “But isn’t he supposed to be half Dreicean? I mean, his hair is blond!”

“His eyes look just like Landon’s. See this DNA report?” Amelia pointed at the results. “A quarter match rate–there’s definitely a blood connection!”

“In theory, that’s true…” Brooke said, still sounding a bit stunned.

Brooke kept flipping through the report, her face full of amazement.

Finally, she calmed herself and reminded her, “Mrs. Kingsley, this report alone isn’t enough. A quarter match… there could be a lot of explanations. Unless we can get a sample of his mother’s hair and test it together with Mrs. Gloria Kingsley’s, we can’t be sure.”

“Yes, that’s the only way to be completely certain,” Amelia agreed.

With Brooke’s reminder, Amelia managed to calm down.

They still couldn’t prove for sure that Landen was part of the Kingsley family, so she decided not to tell Gloria just yet.

She pulled out her phone and tried calling Landon.

[Sorry, the number you have dialed is currently turned off.]

“Hasn’t the plane landed yet?” Amelia frowned, set her phone down, and leaned back in her seat with a relieved sigh.

This report was a great start, and she was sure everything else would work out step by step.

In the end, they would finally prove that Landen was the Kingsley family’s grandson for real!

As for Paloma, Amelia figured she’d have to see her in person to be sure.

“Mrs. Kingsley, should we head back to the office or go home?” Brooke asked.

Amelia was about to say they should go to the office when her phone rang–it was Edith. “Amelia, are you free? Let’s go for afternoon tea.”

Chapter 165

“Okay,” Amelia replied softly. She immediately told Brooke the name of the cafe. It was just as well she wanted a chance to get to know Paloma and Landen a little better anyway.

Just as her car pulled out of the hospital parking garage, another car not far behind pulled out and started trailing her.

The driver was none other than Aiden.

Edith’s sense of style had only gotten better–her profile by the window in the cafe was as beautiful as a painting.

Daniel sat in his car, watching her from afar.

Edith had changed so much.

Ever since she’d hidden herself away in Norava, he found himself pleasantly surprised every time he saw her.

“Mr. Zuckerberg, aren’t you going to say hi?” his assistant asked.

Daniel hesitated.

Honestly, a big part of the reason he came to Norava for the road project was just to see Edith.

It was not like he wanted to get involved in her life again. He just wanted to know she was okay.

“Go on, Mr. Zuckerberg!” his assistant urged.

His assistant’s encouragement finally got to Daniel.

It only made sense for them to catch up over afternoon tea after all this time.

Daniel reached for the car door, ready to get out…

“Brooke, you can head back first! I’ll go home on my own after hanging out with Edith,” Amelia called out.

Was that Amelia’s voice?‘ Daniel wondered.

He quickly pulled the car door shut again.

His assistant just stared at him, at a complete loss for words.

Amelia walked into the cafe with a cheerful step, not noticing Daniel’s car at all.

Daniel let out a quiet sigh of relief and quickly told the driver, “Let’s go!”

His assistant just shook his head helplessly.

‘When did Mr. Zuckerberg get so chicken?’ he thought. ‘Love really does make people timid.’

“Edith, you look even more beautiful,” Amelia said with a bright smile.

Edith’s cheeks flushed with embarrassment, and she shot her a playful glare. “Oh, stop it! You’re the real beauty.”

“You too, Edith,” Amelia laughed. “So, what’s up? No classes today and you’re bored out of your mind?”

“Yeah! Now that Landen’s back in the country, I’ve got nothing to do,” Edith said, propping her chin on her hand and pretending to be all troubled.

“Then just go back to living your best heiress life!” Amelia teased.

Chapter 185

“No way! I’ve found a new job. In a couple of days, I’ll be working at a...“

Amelia was at a loss for words. “Traditional medicine shop,” Edith said.

‘Going from a piano teacher to a pharmacist… isn’t that a huge leap?’ she thought.

“I actually majored in pharmacology in college,” Edith added after a pause. “Giovanna did too.”

Amelia wasn’t exactly a fan of the Hughes family these days, so she just took a bite of her ice cream and asked, “How much are you making?”

“Two thousand dollars during the probation period, and three thousand once I’m officially hired,” Edith said proudly. “Don’t think my salary is too low. I can pick up some piano lessons after work.”

“The Meyers family’s heiress working a part-time job to support herself? That’s so inspiring!” Amelia laughed. “But making money that way is going to take forever. Have you thought about investing?”

“Investing in what?” Edith asked.

“In me!” Amelia flashed a sly grin. “Kingsley Group is building a road for a new mining project. Why don’t you buy in for a share?”

Edith perked up. “How much does a share cost? I don’t have that much cash on hand right now!”

“So, how much have you saved up?” Amelia asked.

“If I add up all my odds and ends, I’ve got a little over one hundred thousand dollars I can actually use,” Edith replied.

“Perfect, just put in one hundred thousand dollars,” Amelia said.

“Deal!” Edith agreed, clearly excited.

Now that she’d made the investment, she could earn money even without working.

Once they’d settled the investment, Amelia asked offhandedly, “So, is Landen really Paloma’s biological son?”

“Pfft, what kind of question is that? Of course he is!” Edith laughed. “Amelia, are you getting pregnancy brain or something?”

“Maybe I am!” Amelia laughed too. “Didn’t you say you were planning to visit Paloma in Dreicea? When are you going?”

Edith thought for a moment and said, “I planned to get a job and earn some money first…”

“But now you don’t have to work–you’ve got your investment!” Amelia chimed in.

“Then I’ll just go in the next few days–make it a little holiday!” Edith said.

“I’m coming too!” Amelia jumped at the chance.
