Chapter 203
Time flew by in Dreicean. Amelia had been living there for a month.
During this time, her movements were restricted to the Kyle Estate. Her phone had been confiscated by Aiden, and all her contact with the outside world relied on Jonas.
Fortunately, Jonas had managed to sneak in disguised as a woman, allowing her to let Daniel know she was safe and to ask for news about Landon.
But after all this time, there was still no news of Landon.
Even Project Azureveil had sent people to look for him, but they still could not find him.
‘Could it really be like Aiden said—he’s never coming back?’ she thought, her heart sinking.
“Mrs. Kingsley, don’t worry. No news is good news,” Jonas comforted her.
“Mm,” Amelia replied.
She could only try to think the same.
Jonas had told her that Joanna had already escaped, and that soon they’d be able to follow the trail to the Kington Gang’s headquarters.
She believed Landon would be back soon.
She touched the necklace around her neck and asked, “How’s your progress with making the poison?”
“Not so good,” Jonas shook his head. “Just the poison from your body alone isn’t enough. We have to take Aiden out in one shot, or he’ll turn the tables on us.”
Amelia sighed.
Landon had been too soft-hearted when he made these hidden weapons disguised as jewelry—he didn’t use any lethal poison.
If he had, she could have killed Aiden with poison.
Having lived two lifetimes, she thought things would finally be easy this time around. But in the end, she never thought she’d be pushed to the point of having to kill.
‘First, I’ll take out Aiden, then Patrick,’ Amelia thought, her resolve hardening.
“The main problem is that the materials I need are hard to find. I’ve turned the whole Kyle Estate upside down and still only found a few things that might work,” Jonas said.
Amelia looked troubled. “What if I pretended to be sick? Could I get some medicine to use for extraction?”
“No. You’re pregnant—you can’t take anything harsh or dangerous,” Jonas replied.
Amelia sighed, feeling like she was out of options.
‘Where am I supposed to find something poisonous?’ Amelia wondered.
Just as the two of them were lost in their worries, Paloma appeared. “Amelia, how are you feeling today?”
She was still wearing her lace mask, looking as elegant and mysterious as ever.
“I’m fine,” Amelia said as she stood up, her gaze complicated as she looked at Paloma.
Chapter 203
If only I could get some poison from Dr. Shaw through her… Amelia thought to herself.
“I just bought some new flowers and set them up in the garden. I thought you might like to come and appreciate them?” Paloma said.
Amelia had been living in the estate for nearly a month and was starting to feel like she was going stale. Hearing about something new, she gladly agreed.
“Sure!” Amelia said.
“Let’s go!” Paloma said.
None of them could have guessed that Paloma’s new flower was actually datura.
Every part of this plant was toxic—its seeds could kill a horse in no time, and just a single leaf or flower could poison someone in less than half an hour.
If they could extract the poison from it, it would be like a dream come true.
Amelia and Jonas shared a look, both of them bursting with excitement inside.
“Beautiful, isn’t it?” Paloma admired the flower as she asked.
“It is. What kind of flower is this?” Amelia asked, feigning ignorance.
Paloma smiled. “It’s pretty, that’s all that matters. Just enjoy looking at it, but don’t ever eat it.”
Amelia let out a little laugh. “Who would eat a flower? A plant this gorgeous deserves to be cared for so everyone can appreciate it.”
“Exactly. I know being cooped up in the estate gets boring, so I’ll keep bringing in new plants so you won’t get bored,” Paloma said, reaching out to gently touch the datura’s petals. “Honestly, I find this life pretty dull too.”
Amelia’s heart skipped a beat. “Have you ever thought about getting out of here?”
“I promised my parents I’d stay here and recover before going anywhere,” Paloma said, shaking her head.
Amelia had been at the estate for so long and had never met Paloma’s parents. Curious, she asked, “They don’t even live here. So why bother sticking to their restrictions?”
“Everyone here is my parents‘ eyes and ears,” Paloma said.
Amelia felt a chill run down her spine.
‘God, doesn’t that mean Paloma is pretty much trapped here?’ Amelia thought.
“Don’t worry. As long as you don’t do anything wrong, no one here will hurt you,” Paloma said, giving Amelia’s shoulder a reassuring pat, sympathy flickering in her eyes.
Amelia forced a wry smile. “I’d love to stir up some trouble, but I’m pretty much useless right now. And now that I’m pregnant, I have to be extra careful just to keep the baby safe.”
Paloma didn’t say anything more. After admiring the datura, the two of them took a stroll around the estate.
Once they were back in the Pink Cottage, Amelia could no longer contain her excitement. She leaned in close and whispered to Jonas, “With the datura and the poison I already have on me, will that be enough?”
“More than enough!”
Jonas rubbed his hands together eagerly.
‘It’s been ages since I last brewed poison, I can’t wait!’ Jonas thought, barely able to contain his excitement.
Chapter 203
“Dr. Meyers, what are you two whispering about?” Aiden strolled in with a bouquet of flowers, his eyes brimming with shameless flirtation.
Amelia couldn’t help but feel disgusted the moment she saw him acting all sleazy again.
Jonas caught her cue and sashayed over, putting on an exaggeratedly sweet tone. “Mr. Kyle, you’re back…”
“Get lost!” Aiden barked.
He was absolutely fed up with Jonas—the fake sweetness was enough to give him goosebumps.
And every time Jonas saw him, he acted overly flirty—sometimes even trying to make physical contact.
He even did it right in front of Amelia. It was completely ruining Aiden’s reputation.
“Mr. Kyle, Ms. Edwards only threw up once today!” Jonas…
Considering he was helping Amelia with her pregnancy, Aiden…
“Yes, Mr. Kyle.” Jonas nodded and left.
Held back and said, “Mm. You can go now—I need to talk to her alone.”
Jonas threw a flirtatious wink, full of charm, and sashayed out gracefully.
Aiden rubbed his arms, shuddering. He grumbled to Amelia, “Do you really have to keep her around to look after you?”
“She’s actually pretty good. I like having her here,” Amelia replied, her tone casual.
Aiden let out a sigh. “Whatever!”
‘Just seven more months,’ Aiden thought. ‘Once Amelia has the baby, I can finally kick that doctor out.’
“My birthday’s coming up in a few days. You have to get me a present,” Aiden said, sliding his ID across the table to Amelia.
September 6th was just three days away.
An idea sparked in Amelia’s mind. “What do you want?”
“As long as it’s from you, I’ll love it,” Aiden replied.
“How about you take me out to pick something?” Amelia asked.
That would be her chance. If she could knock Aiden out with the upgraded hidden weapon, she could finally make a run for it.
But Aiden said, “I don’t want anything you buy from a store.”
“That’s it then,” Amelia replied.
She was beyond frustrated, still trapped inside with no way to get out.
“You could make something yourself, or just come up with any kind of surprise,” Aiden suggested. “This estate is huge—plenty of room to set something up.”
“Do you seriously want a candlelit dinner too?” Amelia said, her tone half-mocking.
“Absolutely!” Aiden replied with a grin.
“Alright, I’ll have the servants set it up,” Aiden said.
Amelia closed her eyes for a nap, too lazy to bother with him.
Chapter 203
Aiden looked disappointed. “I was hoping you’d be the one to plan it. I haven’t celebrated my birthday in a long time.
“I seriously don’t have the strength for that,” Amelia replied, sounding totally unenthusiastic.
“You can just come up with the ideas and tell them what to do,” Aiden coaxed, not giving up.
Amelia just rolled her eyes and turned her head away, too speechless to even argue.
These days, Amelia had figured out the trick to dealing with Aiden: always do the opposite of what he wanted and never miss a chance to keep him under her thumb.
Sure enough, Aiden gave in again, looking a little embarrassed. “If you just peel me some fruit, that would make me happy too.”
“Fine, I’ll peel you an apple when the time comes,” Amelia replied, sounding totally uninterested.
Her absent-minded, half-hearted answer somehow made Aiden light up. “Safe and sound—that’s the best gift!”
Amelia sneered inwardly.
‘Safe and sound? That apple will be anything but safe,’ she thought.
