Chapter 207

Amelia pressed her lips together and followed Daniel and Maisie into the Zuckerberg family’s home.

Edith chattered away, trying to comfort her, and even said, “Just treat this place as your own home.”

But as Amelia looked around the unfamiliar house, a wave of sadness crept over her. This wasn’t her home. Even when her mother was still around, this place already belonged to Joanna. Her father had never mentioned her, let alone acknowledged her.

“I’m older than you, so you should call me ‘Big Sis,’” Maisie said, lifting her chin proudly.

Amelia smiled. “Big Sis.”

Maisie froze for a moment, then turned her head away, trying to hide the tears welling up in her eyes.

“Amelia, what should we do now?” Edith asked. “Is there any chance Aiden will wake up?”

“I really don’t know. Jonas went to see his master to see if there’s anything he can do,” Amelia replied.

The long flight had really worn her out, and she was feeling drowsy again. All she wanted was to crawl into bed and enjoy a good, comfortable sleep now.

Maisie pointed to the second floor. “Your room is upstairs. It’s all set up for you, go get some rest!”

“Thanks, Big Sis,” Amelia said. Yawning, she pushed open the door to her room.

To her surprise, the place looked almost exactly like her old one back in Norava. It was obvious Maisie had put a lot of thought and effort into it.

Amelia leaned in and whispered to Daniel, “Maisie is really a good person. Please thank her for me, okay?”

“Sure thing. Just get some rest. I’m heading over to Project Azureveil headquarters,” Daniel replied.

“Okay,” Amelia said.

Even in this unfamiliar room, there was a comforting sense of warmth, and Amelia soon drifted off to sleep.

Downstairs, Maisie turned to the servants and ordered, “Keep it down, everyone. Don’t disturb the pregnant lady’s rest.”

Edith couldn’t help but chuckle, “You’re getting really thoughtful these days!”

“It’s not like I have a choice, she just looks so pitiful,” Maisie grumbled, then let out a sigh. “Hey, Edith, isn’t it weird? Landon has been missing for ages, but she still won’t let go.”

“Perhaps it’s her faith in it that keeps her going,” Edith said.

Edith couldn’t really understand it either, but she was genuinely relieved that Amelia hadn’t been crushed by everything. Even at her lowest, Amelia was still fighting to save herself.

“How about you? How long would you keep holding on for my brother?” Maisie asked.

Edith paused, then turned her head away a bit awkwardly. “Why should I hold on for him? He’s not anyone special to me.”

“What are you talking about? He’s totally been chasing after you. Haven’t you noticed?” Maisie stepped in front of her, staring right into her eyes.

Edith’s gaze darted away. “No, I really haven’t.”

“Er…” Maisie was at a loss. “But you two have been hanging out almost every single day lately!”

“That’s just because of Amelia,” Edith giggled. “Alright, stop with the nonsense, let’s go get some coffee?”

Edith just couldn’t bring herself to face it; she had been hurt too badly before.

Maisie could only sigh for her Brother. ‘Hang in there, Daniel. The road to winning her over is a long one!’

Meanwhile, Daniel arrived at Project Azureveil headquarters, only to find Giovanna already there.

His gaze shifted to Tuff, who looked downright miserable with a fresh scratch marking his handsome left cheek.

‘Did Giovanna do that? Is there something going on between them?’ Daniel wondered.

His expression shifted slightly as he sized up the two of them. He just couldn’t picture them together.

“Don’t look at me like that, it was Paloma who did it,” Giovanna said coldly.

Daniel let out a sigh of relief. “Well, that’s a relief. You two really aren’t a good match.”

“Where’s Amelia?” Giovanna ignored him and asked.

“She’s at my place, sleeping,” Daniel replied.

“What time is it? It’s still so early.” Giovanna’s eyes widened with sudden worry. “Did she get hurt?”

Daniel kept her in suspense on purpose. “After staying with the Kyle family for so long, even if she doesn’t have any physical injuries, she’s bound to have some psychological scars.”

“I’ll find her a therapist,” Giovanna said immediately.

“No need.” Daniel waved her off. “She’s just got a lot bottled up inside. Once she talks it out, she’ll feel better.”

“That’s exactly why she needs a therapist!” Giovanna insisted.

“You’re the one she needs right now,” Daniel said.

Then he sat down and, with practiced ease, began brewing coffee using Tuff’s set.

“I’m not a therapist,” Giovanna said.

As he poured the coffee, Daniel replied, “The Hughes family’s estate is her home too, at least here in Lunova.”

Giovanna’s expression dimmed, and she stayed silent for a long while.

“So, how exactly is the Hughes family planning to settle her?” Daniel asked again.

“I really don’t know,” Giovanna sighed. “My parents and grandma still have no idea her last name is Zuckerberg.”

Amelia had once been the most cherished and beautiful princess of the Hughes family, only to have her life ruined by the Zuckerbergs.

If her grandmother and parents ever found out that after faking her death and escaping from Lunova, she ended up having a child with the Zuckerbergs, they would absolutely lose it.

“Giovanna, don’t make her wait too long. Things aren’t looking good for her,” Daniel warned.

Giovanna’s breath caught. “But isn’t Landon still at the Kyle family’s place?”

“With the way Landon is, as long as he’s still breathing, he’d find a way back to Amelia. But she’s been living with the Kyle family for so long, and there’s been no word from him at all. Alden was poisoned and forced to let Amelia return home. So why didn’t the Kyle family use Landon as leverage against her at that point?” Daniel explained.

His analysis left Giovanna feeling restless and on edge.

The Kington Gang was a family business, and Aiden’s grandparents were the ones really calling the shots.

The whole Kyle Estate was crawling with their spies.

If Landon was still alive, there was no reason they wouldn’t play that card.

‘Could it be that something bad has really happened to Landon?’ Giovanna wondered.

“No way… that can’t be,” she murmured.

The Hughes family had never just stood by and done nothing. She had always been keeping tabs on Amelia’s situation.

As a woman herself, she knew all too well that Amelia’s strength right now was all because she believed Landon would come back to her.

If that belief ever shattered, Amelia might not even be able to survive it.

“We need to prepare for the worst,” Daniel said in a low, serious voice.

Suddenly, Giovanna gave Tuff a kick. “Come on, it’s just a scratch from a woman! Why the long face? Spit it out already!”

“It was Kayla who scratched me,” Tuff replied with a wry smile.

Daniel and Giovanna were both completely floored.

“How can you be sure it was her?” Daniel asked.

He hadn’t told anyone about that little secret yet.

“The eyes.” Tuff sighed. “I could never forget those eyes.”

“Nonsense! Kayla is a gentle lady now, she’s nothing like the spy you first met,” Giovanna snapped.

Daniel narrowed his eyes at Tuff, suspicion written all over his face. ‘How exactly is he so sure that Paloma is actually Kayla?’

“No, her eyes were just as gentle back then,” Tuff said, seeming to drift off into his memories, looking totally out of it. “Before we wiped out all her comrades, she was gentle…”

“Enough!” Giovanna couldn’t stand it anymore and gave him another kick. “Stop going on about the past, just figure out what to do now!”

Tuff’s train of thought was abruptly cut off, so he shot Giovanna a resentful look. “Frankly, the wisest course of action is to bring Amelia back to the Hughes household. With both the Zuckerbergs and Hugheses protecting her, the Kington Gang wouldn’t dare act.”

“Didn’t she have both families protecting her back then? Try something else!” Giovanna rolled her eyes in exasperation.

“Just make sure she gets through the pregnancy safely. The responsibility of being a mom will keep her going. And if that doesn’t work, we can always have a hypnotherapist help her forget about Landon,” Tuff said.

With that, he zoned out, lost in his own world, reminiscing about the past.

Daniel’s mood was as heavy as storm clouds about to burst; one little poke, and all that emotion would come pouring out.

Giovanna looked just as close to unraveling.
