Chapter 209

"Aaron's got a few bumps and bruises, but he'll be fine. Let's wait for him to wake up before we start asking questions," Daniel said with a tight, rueful smile. "Amelia, we've finally got some good news!"

"Yeah, yeah…" Amelia whispered, her tears streaming down like rain.

After a month and eleven long days, she had finally received the news she had been praying for: Landon was alive.

Now, Amelia could finally stand up to Sandra and Aiden, ready to shout, "I'm not a widow! My husband is alive!"

But then, a new worry crept in. If Aaron came back seriously injured, Landon's condition might be just as bad, if not worse.

Amelia felt her heart clench all over again, the relief she just felt instantly replaced by a fresh wave of worry.

"Aaron is in pretty bad shape. Landon is alive, but he's definitely hurt too," Daniel said, his voice softening.

"It's fine. He can recover. What matters is he's alive," Amelia said firmly.

After waiting for so long, Amelia didn't dare to hope for too much anymore.

Even when Landon had been in a coma, she’d never loved him any less. A few scars or injuries couldn’t change that.

As long as he came back alive, even if he had lost an arm or a leg, it wouldn’t matter to her.

Of course, nothing would make her happier than seeing him return whole and healthy.

"Congratulations, Amelia. After all the storms, you finally get to see the light," Edith said, gently dabbing away Amelia’s tears with a tissue. "This is happy news, so don’t cry anymore."

"Yeah! Such wonderful news!" Amelia nodded hard.

However, no matter how hard she tried, she just couldn’t hold back her tears.

God knows how much she had suffered during that month at the Kyle Estate.

She had to use every bit of strength she had just to keep believing that Landon would make it.

Amelia was falling apart on the inside, always on edge, always hurting. But in front of Aiden, she had to stay composed, all while shielding the life growing inside her.

That month dragged on like it was several lifetimes.

At that moment, Maisie sat at the dining table, absently nibbling on an apple.

Everything was going according to plan, and the pace had even picked up.

Still, she couldn’t stop thinking about her mom, whether she was safe after returning to the Kington Gang, or if she would come after them again.

Overall, Maisie just couldn’t bring herself to feel optimistic.

Early the next morning, Daniel received a message from Tuff saying that Aaron had woken up and his condition was stable.

Amelia couldn’t wait to go see him.

She was so excited that she barely slept all night, and in her half-dreams, she kept seeing Landon coming back.

Even though she hadn’t slept well, she was still buzzing with energy, like she was running on pure adrenaline.

Daniel patted her head sympathetically and reminded her, "Brace yourself, okay?"

"Yeah! I’m ready!" Amelia nodded vigorously.

She believed as long as Landon was alive, there was hope for everything.

Project Azureveil was massive and still under construction.

The so-called headquarters was actually just one of the smaller buildings in the complex.

Amelia looked at the construction site in front of her and asked, "Is this really Project Azureveil?"

"You can’t really see what’s so special about it yet, can you?" Daniel chuckled.

Amelia pressed her lips together, trying not to laugh.

At first glance, it just looked like a massive construction site; no one would ever guess this was the famous Project Azureveil.

One would never imagine that in the future, this place would churn out top-tier talent and launch projects that would shape the whole country.

"Greatness hides in plain sight," Daniel added.

Amelia thought of Landon and couldn’t agree more. ‘Landon is just like that; a great man, quietly blending into the bustling city!

On the surface, Landon played the role of a powerful business tycoon, but in reality, he was up to things even his own wife had no idea about.

‘When he gets back, I’m definitely going to make him spill all his secrets!’ Amelia thought, a playful spark in her eyes.

She was practically beaming with happiness, unable to hide the joy in her expression.

Finally, Amelia rushed into Aaron’s hospital room, her voice bright with excitement as she called out, "Aaron!"

"Mrs. Kingsley," Aaron greeted her.

He tried to sit up, but Amelia quickly stopped him. "Don’t move, just stay lying down."

With a weary sigh, Aaron asked, "Mrs. Kingsley, you must be here to ask about Mr. Landon, right?"

Amelia felt her heart tighten with anxiety at his sigh. "Yes. How is he?"

"His body is all in one piece, and his mind is sharp as ever," Aaron said.

That meant he was not badly hurt. Amelia felt a huge weight lift off her shoulders. "So, where is he now?"

"He…" Aaron hesitated, then looked over at Tuff.

Tuff cleared his throat and asked, "Amelia, what is your expectation for him?"

"Of course, I want him to come back safe and sound!" Amelia replied, but seeing them beat around the bush, she couldn’t shake off a sense of dread.

She tried to calm herself down. ‘Don’t overthink it. Landon is healthy, his mind is clear. He must be fine.

‘Or maybe he was hurt before, but he’s already recovered. Either way, he’s safe now!

"You want him to come back safe and sound? Then, let me put your mind at ease about the first part," Tuff said. "Landon really is safe and sound."

Amelia let out a huge sigh of relief.

"But he can’t come back just yet," Tuff added.

"Why not?" Amelia asked, her heart sinking.

"He’s been called away by headquarters for a special mission," Tuff explained.

"What?" Amelia couldn’t believe it.

Disappointment crashed over her like a tidal wave, threatening to drown her.

"Don’t worry. Just give us a bit more time, and we’ll make sure he comes back to you," Tuff said.

"Can I talk to him? Or maybe just send a text?" Amelia asked, desperation creeping into her voice.

"Sorry, that’s not possible." Tuff shook his head.

Hearing that, Amelia’s eyes turned red with sadness.

"You know Landon isn’t like everyone else. So, I hope you can understand," Tuff said gently.

‘Do I even have a choice?’ Amelia thought, feeling helpless.

She was so frustrated, but there was nothing she could do about it.

Amelia gently placed her hand on her belly and asked, "How long will this mission last? He won’t still be gone when I give birth, will he?"

"I don’t think so," Tuff replied with a nervous chuckle, feeling the pressure really getting to him.

He and Aaron had thought long and hard about it and decided not to tell Amelia the truth about Landon’s condition just yet. They didn’t want to risk upsetting her and causing any harm to the baby.

As for Landon, Tuff planned to reach out to him as soon as possible to get the full story.

He still struggled to accept that Landon had forgotten everything and fallen for someone new.

"Then you have to promise me, make sure Landon comes back before the baby is born," Amelia said solemnly.

Tuff could only nod and replied, "Alright."

At least now, Amelia had something to hold on to again.

Even if it meant waiting seven more months and drowning in longing, it was still better than those days when she didn’t even know if he was alive or dead.

However, Daniel narrowed his eyes at Tuff, thinking, ‘This guy is totally lying.’

"Mrs. Kingsley, just focus on resting and keeping the baby safe," Aaron said, letting his eyes fall shut. He just couldn’t bring himself to watch Amelia’s face go from hope, to heartbreak, and then back to hope again.

With Landon trapped in that woman’s clutches, he might never make it back to Amelia’s side… not ever.

"Aaron, make sure you take care of yourself too," Amelia said, putting on a cheerful face. "By the way, I’ve got some good news for you."

"What is it?" Aaron asked.

"I found Kayla. She’s actually Paloma," Amelia said, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

Aaron froze. ‘Paloma? The young lady of the Kington Gang?’

‘No way… how is that even possible?’ Aaron thought, utterly stunned.

"Ahem, I wanted to tell you too, but since you were still recovering, I didn’t want to stress you out," Tuff said with a light cough. "Alright, just focus on getting better."

"Got it," Aaron replied, swallowing his shock. He shut his eyes and pretended to sleep.

Not wanting to disturb Aaron while he was resting, Amelia left the room with Daniel and immediately started discussing how they could go about rescuing Paloma.

Tuff was quietly listening on the side when he suddenly got dragged into the conversation.

"Tuff, what do you think?" Daniel asked.

"Huh?" Tuff blinked, caught off guard.

"I think I’ll just stay out of this one," he said.

"You even walked in on her while she was showering," Daniel said, his face completely serious.

Amelia was stunned. ‘Tuff actually went to the hotel and spied on Paloma while she was in the shower?’

Then, she noticed the scratches on his face. ‘Hmm, looks like things got a little out of hand.’

"Mr. Zuckerberg, do you have to announce everything to the world?" Tuff objected, looking embarrassed.

"Then pick up the pace with your investigation, or the Flying Tiger Gate is going to look totally useless," Daniel said with a smirk.

He was still pretty annoyed that the Flying Tiger Gate had taken a whole month to find Landon, and even then, their intel was far from complete.

While Tuff fumbled for words, Amelia got a call from Jonas.

"Mrs. Kingsley, my master is going to kill me! You’ve got to come save me!" he shouted, clearly panicking.
