Chapter 241

“Ahem…” Tuff cleared his throat and quickly turned his gaze to the car window. “Who said I like your sister? We were just pretending to date to trick Aiden.”

Landon watched as Tuff’s ears slowly turned red and couldn’t help but laugh.

‘Wifey was right, Tuff really does have a thing for Kayla,’ he thought. But Kayla had ended up as the villain again…

As that thought crossed his mind, Landon couldn’t bring himself to smile anymore. He gloomily rubbed his temples.

Tuff, unwilling to give up, finally managed to get through to Kayla’s phone. The moment she answered, he blurted out his usual, “Darling…”

“Ahem!” Landon choked on his own saliva.

‘That’s way too cheesy!’ he thought.

Tuff’s handsome face turned bright red. The fake relationship was already over, so why was he still calling her “darling” out of habit?

“Landon, what’s wrong with you?” After a brief silence, Kayla’s cold voice came through the phone.

Tuff didn’t have time to explain to Landon. He quickly said, “Kayla, it’s me, Tuff.”

There was another silence on the other end. Tuff frowned, feeling uneasy.

‘Now that Kayla’s decided to play the villain, will she even bother picking up my calls anymore?’ Tuff worried to himself.

“Tuff?” She sounded surprised.

Tuff quickly replied, “Yes, yes, it’s me.”

“What do you want?”

“I just wanted to let you know – Landon went and volunteered himself as a lab rat to get you treated. He’s in the operating room right now.”

Kayla let out a cold, impatient laugh. “I literally just called him a moment ago…”

“That was right when they started the anesthesia, so he could still pick up. But now he’s completely out,” Tuff explained.

“I don’t care! Let Aiden go right now, or else…”

“Alright, alright! I’ll let him go! Right away!” Before Kayla could even finish her threat, Tuff jumped in and agreed right away.

Kayla seemed pretty satisfied, her tone easing up a bit. “And another thing. From now on, the Flying Tiger Sect better stop causing trouble for the Kington Gang.”

“Sorry, but that’s not up to me,” Tuff sighed. “Landon’s the boss. I have to wait for him to wake up before I can do anything about it.”

“Tuff!” Kayla snapped, her anger flaring up. “You need to get this straight – you guys aren’t in any position to bargain with me right now!”

“I get it, but what do you expect me to do? I can’t just drag him off the operating table – he’d literally die!” Tuff put on his best pitiful face.

He really went all out with the whole “woe is me” act, hamming it up for full effect. Landon watched, the corner of his eye twitching in disbelief.

‘I never knew Tuff was such a drama king. The Flying Tiger Sect seriously owes him an Oscar,’ he thought.

“Darling… Uh, Kayla!” Tuff slipped up with the pet name again. “Even if the sky is falling, we gotta wait for him to make it back from the brink, right? He’s doing all this for you!”

Kayla fell silent for a moment before finally asking, “When will his surgery be over?”

“No idea,” Tuff said, seeing she was buying it and amping up the drama. “This surgery is crazy dangerous. I tried to talk him out of it, but he just wouldn’t listen – he had to do it for you…”

“Enough!” Kayla snapped, unable to listen any longer. “Three days. I’ll give you guys three days!”

“Alright, I’ll pray morning and night, hoping he wakes up soon,” Tuff replied.

“Hmph!” Kayla hung up the phone in a huff.

Tuff was pretty pleased with his performance and was about to pat himself on the back when he suddenly noticed Landon glaring at him with a dark expression.

His heart skipped a beat.

“What, do you think I’m already dead?”

“No, no, no, I just said it without thinking… Ow!” Tuff yelped as Landon punched him in the face.

The car shook violently. The driver from the Prescott family covered his face, unable to watch.

In the end, Tuff got out of the car with two black eyes…

Meanwhile, Landon hopped on a private jet and flew straight to Norava.

Meanwhile, Kayla slammed her phone down, her brows shooting up in fury, a chilling murderous vibe practically pouring off her.

Gloria was scared out of her wits, her heart thumping like crazy.

Amelia secretly thought to herself, ‘Why is Kayla so hot-tempered all of a sudden? She used to be so patient!’

“What are you looking at?” Kayla snapped, shooting them a fierce glare.

Gloria quickly averted her gaze, trembling in fear.

Amelia asked, “Sis, what happened to Landon?”

“He’s in surgery,” Kayla replied.

“Is he hurt?” Amelia asked.

Both Amelia and Gloria looked stunned.

‘Didn’t Landon go back to the Flying Tiger Sect? How could he end up needing surgery?’

‘Even if the Kington Gang managed to reach all the way into Lunova, there’s no way the Flying Tiger Sect wouldn’t be able to protect him,’ they both thought in disbelief.

‘Besides, there was still the Zuckerberg family.’

‘Before Landon headed to Lunova, Amelia had already contacted Daniel, asking the Zuckerberg family to look after him.’

‘So how could he possibly end up getting hurt?’ they wondered, full of confusion and worry.

“He went to have the brain chip removed,” Kayla replied coldly, her gaze flicking over Amelia’s belly, her mood clearly unsettled.

If it weren’t for the fact that Aiden cared so much about Amelia’s pregnancy, Kayla wouldn’t have bothered putting up with this pregnant woman at all.

She was supposed to be the hostage, but here Kayla, the kidnapper, had to carefully look after her. It was just too much!

“Oh my god, could he be in danger?” Both Amelia and Gloria turned white as sheets, staring at Kayla in panic and fear.

The way they looked at her, it was like Kayla had suddenly become their only lifeline – their last hope.

Kayla felt even more irritated.

‘Do they even know what it means to be a hostage?’ she thought.

“Kayla, just tell me – how’s your brother?” Gloria was so anxious she was about to cry.

Kayla rolled her eyes and muttered under her breath, “Useless. All you ever do is cry.”

That hit Gloria right in the feels. She rubbed the corner of her clothes, looking dejected. “I’m sorry. I really am useless. I spent the first half of my life relying on my husband, and now I’m relying on my son and daughter-in-law…”

“Alright, alright!” Kayla snapped, cutting her off impatiently. “Landon’s in surgery at the Flying Tiger Sect. They’re trying to remove the chip from his head.”

Amelia’s heart clenched.

He wasn’t suffering from amnesia, and he wasn’t having any attacks or symptoms. There was no reason for him to rush into surgery.

There was only one explanation: he was taking the risk first for Kayla’s treatment.

‘No! This surgery is way too dangerous. If anything goes wrong, he might never wake up,’ Amelia thought, panic flooding her mind.

‘How could he take such a huge risk before I even deliver?’ Amelia thought, panic rising in her chest.

Amelia quickly tried to recall the subtle changes in Kayla’s expression during that phone call.

“Kayla, did Tuff tell you this?” she asked.

“Yeah,” Kayla replied.

“But wasn’t Landon the one who answered your first call?” Amelia asked, not letting it go.

“Yeah, he answered. But right after, they knocked him out with anesthesia,” Kayla replied.

Kayla felt a heavy weight settle in her chest.

Three days. She only had three days. ‘Will Landon really wake up on time?’ she worried.

‘What if he dies on the operating table?’ she couldn’t help but think, anxiety gnawing at her.

If that happens, it’s going to be a disaster…

“Kayla, you and Tuff…” Amelia probed, her tone tentative.

Just now, Kayla seemed to really dislike Tuff, but they used to be on good terms – they even played a couple before.

Every time Tuff came up, she was always pretty chill about him.

Whenever Landon complained about Tuff, Kayla would even stick up for him…

The more Amelia thought about it, the more off it felt. Out of the corner of her eye, she caught a glimpse of the lace mask lying on the coffee table.

A wild thought suddenly flashed through Amelia’s mind, ‘Is this really Kayla standing in front of me, or is something off here?’

Just then, someone came in and announced, “Miss, Mr. Kyle is here.”

“Wow, Tuff moves fast,” Kayla finally felt a bit relieved.

“Miss, he is waiting outside. Should I let him in?”

Amelia found herself actually wanting to see Aiden.

Even though Aiden always got on her nerves with his obsessive ways, Amelia couldn’t help but think maybe his arrival would be a game changer.

After all, he couldn’t stand the thought of her getting hurt – not even a little bit.

“No, I’ll go see him,” Kayla said, shooting Amelia a look of disdain, having already seen right through her intentions.

And just like that, she shattered Amelia’s hopes.
