Chapter 251

“I agree,” Amelia said.

She took a deep breath, forcing herself to push down the worry in her heart. ‘I have to stay calm,’ she told herself.

The chip was always a hidden danger—just look at Kayla, and you’d know.

For the past six months, no one really talked about the chip in her brain, but everyone was secretly worried about it.

Especially since Kayla’s headaches were getting more and more frequent—it was truly heartbreaking.

By now, there was less than a month left of the six months the doctor had given her…

“I’ll go first,” Kayla said, showing up at the door with some apple pie in her hands.

Amelia and Landon were both taken aback. “Kayla?”

“My headaches are unbearable, so I’m going first with the surgery,” Kayla declared matter-of-factly.

To be honest, she just wanted to be the guinea pig.

Whether her surgery worked or not, it would help them figure things out for Landon’s surgery later.

If things turned out badly, Landon could always put off his surgery and wait for a better time.

Anyway, the chip isn’t really a big threat to him right now.

“Kayla, the surgery is risky…” Amelia said.

“What isn’t risky? Having a baby is risky, but you all still did it, didn’t you?” Kayla replied with a calm smile, totally unfazed. “Just do it my way, or we’re not doing it at all.”

A few days later, Giovanna and Daniel returned, bringing along the Hughes family’s medical team.

“Amelia, it’s me, your cousin,” Giovanna called out, standing outside the operating room with an easy confidence as she greeted Amelia.

The white coat softened her aura a lot, but the fierce glint in her eyes reminded everyone—she wasn’t just a doctor, but also an assassin!

“I…” Amelia stammered, suddenly feeling a wave of social anxiety and not knowing how to reply.

“Before, there were some special reasons why we couldn’t acknowledge each other, but now we finally can,” Giovanna said, opening her arms wide. “What’s wrong? Don’t you recognize me anymore?”

“I… I do…” Amelia choked out, her voice barely above a whisper.

Amelia’s throat felt tight, taking one hesitant step after another toward Giovanna.

Daniel stood beside Giovanna, grinning. “Come on, Amelia! Your family’s never given up on you.”

At last, Amelia threw herself into Giovanna’s arms. “Cousin…”

“Your grandmother and uncle miss you so much. Come with me to Lunova to see them,” Giovanna said softly.

“Okay,” Amelia replied quietly.

Landon had already told her everything, but even now, she couldn’t help feeling both excited and sad.

‘Mom, are you watching from heaven?’ Amelia thought. ‘The Hughes family never gave up on us; it was just that life sometimes forced them to make tough choices. Mom, I’ll go back and be good to them for you…’

“We all love you so much. I’m so glad you were strong enough to keep living well,” Giovanna said, gently patting Amelia’s back. “Thank you for not blaming us…”

“My husband told me everything…” Amelia choked out, her voice thick with emotion. “I know you’ve done so much for me…”

Giovanna raised an eyebrow, giving Landon an approving look. “When we get back to Lunova, I’ll put in a good word for you.”

Landon let out a laugh. “No need, I’ll prove myself.”

“The old lady in my family isn’t easy to please,” Giovanna said with a soft chuckle, letting go of Amelia. “Alright, I’m heading into the operating room.”

“Cousin, you… don’t stress yourself out,” Amelia said hesitantly, carefully picking her words.

If it were any other doctor, she probably would’ve said something like, “Please, I’m begging you.”

But she knew Giovanna would give it her all—saying that would only make her feel more pressure.

“Mm!” Giovanna turned and walked into the operating room.

Everyone waited anxiously outside.

Suddenly, someone noticed Tuff was missing.

“Where’s Tuff?”

“I don’t know, he was just here a second ago…” Daniel replied.

He raised an eyebrow and said, “He went in to be with Kayla during the surgery.”

Everyone was stunned.

“Kayla and Tuff have secretly promised to be together. If the surgery goes well, they’ll officially be a couple. Tuff went in to root for Kayla—after all, his whole future depends on her now,” Daniel explained slowly.

Landon froze, then got angry. “When did this happen? How come I didn’t know?”

Daniel just shrugged and covered his ears. “Like I said, it was a secret engagement—of course you couldn’t know.”

“Yeah, everyone knows now, so it’s basically official,” Amelia said, nodding hard, her hands still clenched into fists on her knees.

‘Kayla finally found someone great for her! I’m so happy for her!’ Amelia thought.

‘But she’s in surgery right now… I’m so nervous for her!’ she added to herself.

“I don’t approve,” Landon huffed, clearly annoyed.

Daniel leaned over and whispered to Amelia, “He probably feels like his precious cabbage is being stolen by a pig. Good thing you had a son—if you’d had a daughter, her future son-in-law would be in for a world of trouble.”

“Totally! I actually thought about that when I was pregnant…” Amelia echoed with a laugh.

Outside the quiet operating room, the two of them were whispering—not exactly quietly.

Landon was speechless, lines practically forming on his forehead. “Tuff has got some nerve—how does he even have the guts to go after my sister?”

“Maybe that’s exactly why he wants to make it up to her with love?” Amelia said, covering her mouth with a grin. “When I first met you, you were a total grump to me!”

“Uh…” Landon was instantly at a loss for words.

He completely lost his bluster.

Back then, he was basically a vegetable, stuck in bed, and he’d been so grumpy with her…

Thanks to Daniel’s interruption, the mood in the waiting room lightened up a little.

Amelia even started making a note on her phone: “Transfer all of Mom’s shares to Kayla, buy her a house and a car…”

She pulled up a whole list on her phone and handed it to Landon. “These are all the engagement gifts I could think of. See if I missed anything.”

“Hmph!” Landon snorted.

He took the phone, muttering under his breath as he started scribbling on the list.

“This one’s out, and we don’t need that either. Let’s add another house! The Prescott family’s in Lunova, so we should get Kayla a few storefronts there…”

Daniel watched the couple fuss over the list, a faint smile tugging at his lips.

Most of those nerve-wracking hours were spent working on the engagement gifts list.

Finally, the operating room door swung open.

“How did it go?”

Amelia and Landon rushed forward, anxiety written all over their faces.

“It’s a success!” Giovanna said, pulling off her surgical mask and letting out a relieved smile.

“That’s wonderful, that’s wonderful!”

Landon turned away, covering his face, his shoulders shaking with emotion.

“Cousin, thank you so much…” Amelia choked out, wiping away her tears.

“We’ll schedule your husband’s surgery for tomorrow,” Giovanna said.

Amelia looked at her pale face and asked, “You must be exhausted. Why don’t you rest for a few days before the next one?”

“I’m fine, I can handle it,” Giovanna said with a smile. “Wesley Harrington, take Landon for his pre-op checkup.”

Landon didn’t even have a chance to catch his breath before he was whisked away for the pre-surgery exam.

Meanwhile, in the operating room, Tuff never let go of Kayla’s hand, staying right by her side as she waited for the anesthesia to wear off…

The next day, Landon also went in for his surgery.

Because his chip had only been implanted for a short time and there hadn’t been any issues like loosening, the whole operation went even more smoothly.

Kayla’s recovery took longer than Landon’s, and Tuff practically moved into her hospital room, taking care of her every need and never leaving her side.

Their secret promise to be together finally got the Kingsley family’s blessing, and Gloria couldn’t be happier—she threw herself into preparing the engagement gifts and the wedding for her daughter.

Giovanna stuck around in Norava for a while, staying until both Landon and Kayla had fully recovered from their surgeries.

Amelia was beyond grateful, and the two cousins grew closer than ever.

By the time she brought her husband and kids back to Lunova to officially reunite with her family, Amelia’s heart was finally at peace.

It turned out that, aside from Walter’s family, everyone truly loved her.

It was all worth it—living this life all over again wasn’t in vain.
