Chapter 258

With Amelia’s word, Landon had no choice but to take Kayla over to Tuff’s place.

To settle down, Tuff bought a luxury, fully furnished penthouse apartment in Norava. He had originally planned to buy a villa, but since Kayla wanted to enjoy the lively city life, they ended up choosing a penthouse on the top floor in the downtown district. From there, they could take in the bustling city traffic and lights, yet it was still peaceful enough.

Knowing Kayla was coming over, Tuff showed up early and waited right at the entrance of the neighborhood. “Kayla, I made your favorite lobster and picked up some wine…” The look in Tuff’s eyes was so sweet and tender. Late–night snacks, wine, and a gorgeous woman, anyone with half a brain could tell exactly what Tuff was after. Landon couldn’t help but feel a little salty.

After living in a villa for so long, Amelia started missing the lively city life too. She turned to him and said, “Honey, how about we get ourselves a penthouse too?”

“No problem.” He pursed his lips, a smug glint flashing in his eyes. He’d actually had his eye on the unit right below Tuff’s place for a while! If they bought it, he could go upstairs or downstairs to see Kayla anytime he wanted. Of course, he wouldn’t actually be living there all the time. But just being neighbors would be enough to keep Tuff in check and make sure he didn’t dare mess with Kayla.

“You guys should buy somewhere else, not right next to us,” Tuff immediately protested. At the Flying Tiger Sect, he had to take orders from Landon. But in his personal life, there was no way he was going to let Landon boss him around. And he would be Landon’s brother–in–law soon!

“We’re buying here,” Landon said, raising an eyebrow, his mischievous intentions clear as day.

Tuff could tell Landon wasn’t joking this time, and he was so mad that his face practically turned green. “Honey, do you see what he’s doing…”

“Landon, you guys should really pick somewhere else,” Kayla said.

Landon was speechless.

Amelia nearly cracked up laughing. Trying to play peacemaker, she said, “Kayla, how about we get the building next door? We’ll just bring the baby over every now and then, promise we won’t crash your place.”

“That works,” Kayla agreed.

Kayla and Tuff linked arms and headed back into the neighborhood.

Both of them were tall, and under the streetlights, their shadows stretched out and merged into one.

“Actually, Kayla could get some cosmetic work done on her face,” Amelia said softly.

‘Her wedding would be perfect if she got her face fixed first,’ Amelia thought to herself.

“I’ve tried to talk her into it, but she just won’t do it. Let her make her own choice! If Tuff ever dares to complain, I’ll break his legs,” Landon said.

“Gosh! Don’t be so violent to your future brother–in–law,” Amelia teased.

Amelia leaned against the car window, watching the city go by outside with a relaxed smile. Neon lights flickered everywhere. The city was lit up with nightlife, and traffic flowed endlessly. At nine at night, the streets were alive–some people hurrying by, others just taking their time. After everything, they finally had some peace in their lives.

“What are you thinking about?” Landon asked, turning his head to look at her. It was rare for him to see Amelia so at ease, and seeing her like this, he couldn’t help but relax too.

“I was just thinking how good life is now,” Amelia said. “No more chaos in the underworld, no more living by the sword.”

“That whole Aunt Shelby situation still isn’t over!” Landon snorted. Ever since he found out Shelby was the one who kidnapped Kayla, Landon’d been stewing about it. But for the moment, he just had to keep it bottled up.

“At the end of the day, it’s just some family drama–really nothing to worry about,” Amelia said with a light laugh.

Landon just snorted. Once everything was cleared up, he was determined to cut ties with the Gellar family for good–never have anything to do with them again. But Amelia was right. Compared to all the bloodshed and chaos they’d survived, this Aunt Shelby thing was really nothing at all. “How about in a couple of years, when our son is a bit older, we try for a little girl? That way, he could be her protector,” Landon suggested. His biggest regret in life was always being the younger brother–he never got the chance to really look out for Kayla. If they had a daughter, maybe he could finally make up for that by being the kind of big brother who would always have his little sister’s back.

Amelia knew exactly what he was thinking. She gave him a mischievous grin. “Are you sure about that? If we have another one, you’ll have to go without for over…”

Landon frowned. “Then, forget it!”

He thought, ‘Sometimes you gotta be selfish. Your own happiness comes first.’

“You’re hopeless!” Amelia giggled, her clear, bright laughter drifting out into the night air.

‘I knew it would end up like this!’ Amelia thought.

Landon called Aaron. “I want all the info you can get on Marvin’s business.”

“Honey, didn’t Kayla say she’d look into it?” Amelia said in surprise. “The Gellar family is way too small to handle you coming after them in business.”

“I know. Let’s just check things out first, then decide what to do,” Landon replied.

“Okay, fine!” Amelia said.

A few days later, Kayla and Aaron both showed up with some big news at the same time.

“Aunt Shelby… she’s actually in love with our dad…” Kayla said, her voice trailing off in disbelief.
